At least the offense flashed some potential. It looks like some of the problems can be fixed through adjustments. Ya, Cutler played wildly inconsistent, as many had mentioned before, Trestman is getting too cute with his calls. Still not sure why he can't dial down some of the play calling like he did to make McCown successful.

That defense though, they couldn't tackle last season, they can't tackle this season... And Jennings looked awful against Woods. The play that sticks out is where Woods beat Jennings and Conte just lunged helmet first at him (surprised we didn't get a helmet to helmet call) and luckily Conte knocked Woods off balance otherwise he would've taken it to the house. Our defense is just as I thought it was after our moves, no investment in stopping the run. Just imagine when a better team can take advantage of our lack of run stopping with better personnel on the edges and at QB.

Not sure how you could think the loss falls squarely on the defense. Allowed another 200 yds rushing and gave up more huge plays. No qb pressure. The int went straight into Conte's arms. Terrible throw. Not sure how a 35+ yd fg is a gimme in OT either. You go for the tackle, not just stripping the ball. The defense is as bad as ever. They were just playing the Bills. It would've been much worse against a better offense. The Bills don't have a terrible defense.

Cutler missed multiple games, but the rest of the offense was largley injury free. The offensive line played all sixteen games together. Jeffrey, Marshall, Bennett, and Forte were all healthy. This season has already started out differently. Mills missed the first game. Slauson and Garza got hurt and couldn't finish the first game. Jeffrey was on the sideline in the second half. There is no excusing Cutler's play. He was awful. Marshall and Jeffrey dropped balls. That was ridiculous. Overall the offense played very poorly. But the offense needs help from the defense for this team to improve.

The Bears spent a lot of money signing Allen, Houston, Young, and Ratliffe. Four of their first five draft picks were defensive players. They signed a number of safeties. And the result, in this game, was the same as last year, putrid. You allow a pitiful offensive team like the Bills to run for 193 yards and score 23 points.

This was the most winnable game the Bears have in the first half of the season. They will be lucky to win two of their next seven. The next games that seem the most likely for the Bears to win are probably at the Jets and Miami in Chicago. But the Jets aren't as bad as they were last year. And Miami looked pretty good on Sunday against the Patriots. The Bears team I saw out there Sunday could easily lose the next seven games. They probably will manage a win or two out of these upcoming games. But it wouldn't surprise me if they went in to their bye 2-6. This lose hurt really bad.

No one to replace Roach, Urlacher and now an old Briggs and DJ. No plans for improving the safety position, except starting a turd of a safety from last year who was injured for all of the off-season. Add that onto who is probably the worst DC in the league and this defense is going nowhere.

I agree, I think that the lack of depth is really troubling. At WR I had high hopes for Wilson, and he is out for another five weeks I believe. Holmes may eventually be alright, once he learns the offense. But Morgan and Spurlock are awful. And Spurlock stinks as a returner. It remains to be seen how the replacements on the o-line fare. But the line was a strength last year, with injuries it may not be this year.

It is hard to determine if the defense has any depth. But when the starters aren't very good, and if you are a back up you couldn't beat out the guy who isn't very good, that is not a good sign. They have a bunch of guys to play safety, and none of them may be any good. I have been waiting to see Bostic, or Greene, or McClellin flash or show something to indicate that they might develop. Still waiting........

I would say they win two of these seven. I think they can beat the Jets, maybe. I think they could win either @Atl, or Miami in Chicago. If that is true then they would go in to the bye at 2-6. The best I see is 3-5. This is not shaping up to be a very good season. They have a softer schedule after the bye. That may help.

Don't think that they can beat the jets who will run all over this team like the rest of the NFL will and has since Urlacher "retired". As sad as it is to see - I just do not see this team winning much from the schedule coming up and after the way the Vikings just clobbered the Rams and the improvements that the Lions have made - this team could be the bottom feeder in the division.

Usually once I have pretty much given up on the Bears they suddenly surprise me. But I wouldn't be completely surprised if the Bears go in to the bye 1-7.

I don't know where the Trestman magic was today. I know that Mel Tucker is looking like he should have been fired after last year. Emery did a good job of shoring up the o-line last year. But the entire line started all year. That already isn't the case. When you have injuries it tests your depth. The way the Bears WRs performed today was awful. I don't know how the replacements played on the line, but the offense didn't score points. Generally, Cutler throws interceptions more often when he is getting pressure. The starting defensive players let the Bills run all over them. Conte got the interception so I thought perhaps he might turn things around for himself. But when Fred Jackson ran him over in the fourth quarter, Conte proved his utter worthlessness. I'd like to see the Bears fire Mel Tucker, but they won't.

It will be interesting to see how they adjust with this coaching staff. There are always teams that hit the hot streak and grab that WC spot. The frustrating part here is that they made all these changes but the team continues to fall into the old "the names have changed but everything remains the same". This is why I noted that Emery was on the hot seat after last year. They just seem like the same team that just wallowed in mediocrity last year. Where is the urgency to win games? The Bills came in here like Seattle did the last time they came to Chicago. They just kept pressing it and made plays when they saw them. A lot of this loss is on Cutler because he just does not have the balls to take this team on his shoulder and win games. He cannot make the ritical game winning plays consistently like the Mannings and the Brady's. I am not saying he is on that level but come on once in a darn while win the damn game. The Bears have so many playmakers on offense but they just cannot rise up and dominate teams. They are always flirting with losing games against the teams they NEED to beat and in most cases they just flounder.

This was the most winnable game the Bears have in the first half of the season. They will be lucky to win two of their next seven. The next games that seem the most likely for the Bears to win are probably at the Jets and Miami in Chicago. But the Jets aren't as bad as they were last year. And Miami looked pretty good on Sunday against the Patriots. The Bears team I saw out there Sunday could easily lose the next seven games. They probably will manage a win or two out of these upcoming games. But it wouldn't surprise me if they went in to their bye 2-6. This lose hurt really bad.

Was going to say the same thing. I thought that if anything, we learned that there is no depth anywhere on this team. If anyone on offense gets hurt, the wheels are going to start falling off. I wouldn't write off the offense just yet, but the defense is going to make it a brutal season.

I would stress some patience with the D. The line has some nice talent but maybe it's going to take some time to come together. I mean we're not writing Allen off as done yet are we? Briggs as well?

yeah, I was just talking to a buddy of mine here in chicago about this ---- I was looking at the schedule and couldn't find a game on it where I'd make them a favorite.

There's a lot of stuff to iron out on both sides of the ball, but there were also some bright spots to build on as well. Garza being out doesn't really bother me, IMO De Le Puente is better. Losing Slauson bites, the Bears are a better team with him on the field.

Cutler's 2nd INT was jaw-droppingly stupid. That's the throw that finally broke me and makes me realize he's never going to change. Apparently he's content to continue the rest of his career randomly costing his team a win or two every season.

And did Tucker ever call a blitz? Seems like I could count on 1 hand the number of times he sent someone. I'm giving him a pass for last year due to all the injuries, but my list of things I like about Tucker is pretty blank right now.

I like how you summed up the inept nature of this team. Lot to iron out. Cutler's jaw dropping stupidity. A clueless DC. This is organization run by stooges that happen to gire coordinators as head coaches and GMs that cannot draft. They fill their gaps with over the hill free agents half the time and they have one of the most pathetic special teams in the NFL. Thank goodness for the Blackhawks and fantasy football.
