****Official 2014 Chicago Bears Thread **** (2 Viewers)

Glad to get out of there with a win. Ugly
yep, that's about all you can say for this one... Lots of mistakes all around, and as usual it seemed like we were just getting beat in the trenches. I'll take the win, hopefully we get some guys back soon, trainers room is getting a little crowded.

Despite tons of injuries, this was a gutty win...... there were bad breaks on both sides. Bears should have had a TD instead of FG where Bennett dropped an easy one....also Bears should recover that fumble...Fuller should have let the other Bear recover it. Of course the refs blowing the whistle early helped us on that fumble that led to a TD

Either way, winning on the road against a very good DL is always good...given all our injuries on D and Marshall not being Marshall this game.

I love the Bears but have been disappointed in them for the majority of my life, but you have a point.
What would it take for you to NOT be disappointed? A Superbowl win? If thats the case, then you'd be disappointed being a fan of almost any team. If there was true parity in the NFL and everyone alternated winning the championship, then you'd only be happy once every 32 years.
Not this year. I said before Week 1 that the Bears will win it all this season. It's looking more and more like that every day. The NFC North is incredibly weak. The Packers have taken a step back and probably won't make the playoffs this year. The Lions have talent but lack focus. Minnesota isn't quite where they need to be just yet. The North is prime for the taking and the Bears are a lock to win the division. I think they'll upset Seattle in the playoffs on their way to the Super Bowl. I realty can't see any team stopping them.
3andOut - let it go. flap is a complete ignorant meathead. Every fan base has them....too bad we have to read his drivel here. You said it well....Bears have been to a SB and to a NFC Championship game in the last 10 years or so....that's not bad. There are many fans who would die to witness that with their teams....add to that we are actually building a pretty strong team here that has a shot to contend in the next 5 years but this meathead does not get it. He will be here whining the first time we lose a game even if we win a SB the previous year. No point trying to reason with people like that.

I'm actually pretty impressed that they were able to keep it together defensively the last two games with all these injuries. They were nearly out of safeties by the end of the game.

How's your fantasy team doing?

Impressed by that as well. Not impressed with the DL though
The DL had a couple of sacks and could have had 2 more at least if it was not a mobile QB (like Kap last week)....Jared Allen missed one at the end that would be a sack on a non-mobile QB. Jets have a very good OL with 2 pro-bowlers in Ferguson and Mangold. Yet our DL did very well to shut down the run for the most part and create lots of pressue on Geno.

Next week...the packers have a bad OL and there should be more chances for pressure/sacks. Being at home will help too for the DL to get the first step.

LOL the bears have been to a SB (and lost) and a championship in the last 10 years (wasn't that the same year as the SB loss). 26 years and counting - no hardware in the trophy case unless you want to count that championship.

That play call by Martz at the end of that game still infuriates me. We were driving down for the tie, Hanie on fire and he calls some stupid reverse. Ugh

So what were your thoughts on the rookies and second year players this week? This is the first time we got a good look at some of them.

I thought both DT's played pretty well for their first action, and they were going up against some decent OL's. They all had stats, tackles, sacks, hurries, which sometimes DT's don't see. Looked like they actually shifted some double team's to Sutton a few plays. Along with Fuller, we may have managed to hit on our first three picks this year. Not guaranteeing pro-bowls, for the DT's yet or anything stupid like that, but looks like they can play football.

With the second year, I thought Bostic was starting to look pretty good in a full time role yesterday. Yes, he missed the hell out of a pretty easy pick to end the game, but I thought he was tackling pretty well, was in the backfield making plays a few times. Not sure if I was missing something, but looking like he could be developing into a starter. I remember Roach didn't look that great in his first year or two, but ended up turning into a valuable starter, hoping Bostic can be the same.

Can't say much about Vereen I don't think we've seen enough of to say much yet.

Thoughts?

I agree with most of this. The rookies are all looking good and contributing. Bostic looks like he could be decent going forward. I may have been wrong about Emery with defensive players this year if they keep it up. We shall see. I still don't think they will come anywhere near their full potential with Tucker at the helm. He's not good and a couple decent games doesn't change that. I'm cautiously optimistic going forward. With the way the 49ers look, it doesn't appear we have played any really good teams yet.

Shea out again. For the best
Pretending you know more than Trestman is getting tiresome. At the end of the day the Bears starting SLB is out, and that's not a good thing no matter what way you try to spin it. And frankly it's getting embarrassing

Lol you gotta be ####ting me with this. You just assume these coaches are never wrong?
It's not never wrong for him though, it's always wrong. Questioning every decision would have been more apropos for me to say. Regardless, we have one less defender on an already thin defense. Defend that being a good thing, as we're a play away from Terrell Manning being in the game against Rodgers

You're too fixated on what a couple people in here say. If you look 2 posts above yours, I complimented the young guys playing well. My point on Shea being out was that it was probably for the best so Bostic can show what he's got. I think putting Shea at lb came 2 years too late. There's a reason a lot of teams had him slotted as a lb coming out.

Again, the point was I'd rather see what Bostic has. One less player on D is not a good thing and I didn't want Shea to get injured.

I feel like today is an extra Bye week for the bears. They're facing probably the weakest Packers team in about ten years, for starters. I also think this is the year the bears win it all, and pick up some serious hardware along the way. Cutler will get MVP and Fuller will be defensive ROY. The team is playing at an exceptionally high level now, and can beat anyone in the league. Today won't even be close. The bears will be able to score at will against the Packers' defense, and the Packers' offense has been nonexistent this year. The final score will be something like bears 45, Packers 17. And that's a conservative estimate.

Each year some teams just have that look and you know they'll be in it until the end. It's pretty obvious that the bears are a lock for the Super Bowl this year. They may stumble a bit here and there, but there's no one out there who can stop them.

Keys to a Bears win - no turnovers, get Forte going eraly and often and solid play up fron from the DL. The defense needs to sto[p the run and get to Rogers. This is a revenge game and the Bears owe the Pack an ### kicking. Two wins on the road vs SF and the Jets. The last thing they need is to lay an egg at home vs the biggest rival. Better not be a Cutler drama fest game.

Well there goes that. I'll never learn my lesson getting excited about playing the Packers. Always a let down and embarrassed.

Ummmm did not focus on my keys to the game. This is why we keep laying out the logic that this is not a good organization. No worries the players will all hit their charity events and talk about how they have to get ready for their next game. The Chicago Cubs of the NFL just keep plugging away laughing all the way to the bank with a team that blows.

What we do know is that the Bears aren't as good as the Lions or the Packers. We do know that although many things may change, Cutler still can make boneheaded throws that are intercepted. All the personnel that changed on the defensive line and they still can't rush the passer. Conte still can't cover Cobb. The reality is that there is one player in the Bears secondary that is Fuller. Everyone else couldn't cover their own shadow. Really an awful display of ineptitude on every level.

What did you guys expect with Allen and Ratliff and even Shea out? We got no pass rush but that will change when those guys come back....so relax

Allen had a decent game last week, but he is no world-beater at this point in his career. McClellin is just short of useless, so he won't make much difference. Ratliffe is a good run stopper, but not much of a pass rusher. So although the three returning may help the defense, they are far from saviors. This defense is bad and will remain so until they get some guys who can play.

Allen has had tons of hurries .....we had zero hurries today. Guaranteed he and Ratliff make this D much much better....

I hope you are right. The Bears are going to need a really strong pass rush to make up for their weak secondary. I just don't think that Allen, McClellin, and Ratliff are enough to make up for the holes they have in the secondary. Thank God they drafted Fuller or they would have nothing back there. I think their LBs are weak in coverage too. It is not a good situation, and there is no help on the horizon.

Another thing to consider is that the Vikings look pretty good today. It is possible that the Bears drop to last in their division. The Vikings sure look a lot better with Bridgewater under center.

Starting to see how bad the 49ers are and how little that game meant. Jets are terrible as well and it was a close game.

The Niners are a good team, not as good as they were the last couple of years, but a good team. That was a good win for the Bears. However, you can say that the Bears really got a gift in that game because of the dumb throws Kaep made and the penalties the Niners took. The Jets aren't terrible, they are just limited. The Jets have a good front seven, but their secondary is poor. The Jets have a very limited offense, but they are a tough team.

Lord some of you are clueless. Do you guys realize we had 3 TDs that instead led to 6 points because of small unfortunate stuff? Jeffrey dropped a TD in the 1st half; Bennett almost scored (and he probably did if only the packer defender was not in the way of the review) at the end of the half and Josh Morgan almost scored when he was out of bounds at the 1 yard line (and that led to a FG after a penalty). Do you realize this game would have been different if only the ball bounced a little differently? We dominated their D running and passing at will all game. The int on the Marshall play was bad mis-communication but nothing that cannot be fixed. The int to Matthews was a fluky tipped ball - that happens. And our D would have been better if Allen and Ratliff were there (you know two pro bowl players). And finally, the refs gave the packers some really good freebies with some nonsense calls.....that hit by Mundy was not illegal. We expect our safeties to hit those WRs if we are going to have any chance against the passing teams in this league. The call on special teams on Bostic that converted a FG to TD was a bad play by Bostic but again, very correctable.

We had all kinds of crap go against us today (even before the game started with Allen and Ratliff not playing) and yet we hung 500+ yards of O on those guys. If we are relatively healthy, I will not be surprised if we beat them in Lameblow.

Starting to see how bad the 49ers are
Wait!

The team that just held the Eagles (2nd in points / 5th in yards after week 3) to 0 points on offense and 213 yards.

This is the team that you're starting to see how bad it is?
LOL - flap and his logical conclusions.
