****Official 2014 Chicago Bears Thread **** (1 Viewer)

Here we go again on the Urlacher crap.

Pains me to this day to see him rack up all of those tackles for the team that signed him after he left the Bears.
You were one of the idiots that said it would be easy to fill his spot weren't you?
True story -

Nick Roach was a bigger loss than Urlacher was.
Another true story -

Nick Roach was a liability when he had to play on defense those first couple years when one of the other LB's was out. I remember being frustrated that he was out of position sometimes, could read things wrong, and occasionally missed tackles. Developed into quite a nice player that I fully agree, we missed when he left.

Moral of that story, I still have hope that some of our young LB's will take that direction and turn into some nice players for us down the road. A lot of players take time and coaching to adjust to the NFL.

:goodposting:

Some around here seem to think that HOF players continue to play at a HOF level throughout their entire career and that's the production that is being replaced. Not the production of a washed up has-been that couldn't shed a block.

The young guys played well yesterday

It's been an up and down season, but the 2014 draft appears to be pretty good. Lots of guys are contributing at a high level. That's critical for long term success.

I don't really know if Chicago played great, Atlanta played poorly, or what combination of the two it was, but all that matters is the W. Great to see the Bears fans travelling so well, seemed like Atlanta had to burn a timeout due to crowd noise. It was awesome to see, but I kind of feel bad for Roddy White as he was getting drilled all day long. All in all a fun game to watch.

The only thing that really frustrated me was the Bears' possession before the end of the half. After starting at their own 7 yard line by the 2 minute warning they had advanced to the 50 yard line and had all 3 timeouts left. From that point on it never seemed like there was any urgency, attempts to conserve the clock, or get OB. I think Trestman is an offensive genius, but when it comes to the managing the clock in the 2 minute offense he seems pretty inept to be honest.

I agree, same thing going into half with the packers. The drives don't make sense, after a TO, don't most teams have a play called with a plan for the next play so you can get up and go? Also, it seems like they never spike the ball when things are tight to save some time. TO 1 play, TO, 1 play, TO, is a horrible series of calls.

First and most important, this is a soft team. We almost never win the battle of the line....on either side. The players are lacking a toughness....mentally and physically. Im sick of that.
That White comment made me remember this post. Maybe the D has been reading FBG. I was very happy to see how physical they played...especially in the secondary.

I don't know how much longer we will see the new guys. It sounds like McClellin is back so we can watch him over pursue and run out of position. Bostic was practicing this week as well but it sound like Briggs is still iffy. I haven't heard anything about Williams.

So off the wall question here, not a prediction or anything, just a question. I assume Rex Ryan is getting fired after this season, I also don't see teams jumping at him to be a head coach again right away.

If Tucker doesn't have our defense looking like we did last week every game, would you want to see the bears make a run at Rex?

I have to admit, I loved watching that Jets game because his defenses are fun to watch. Creative pressures, always "tough", and we may have a CB that can handle being out on his own that's always required. Not sure Trestman would ever want to be in the same room as Rex Ryan, so maybe he wouldn't even be a consideration, but interesting to think about.

On this one Flap and I are not on the same page. I'd contribute to the salary to get Rex here. Love the attitude and the guy can coach a defense man.

Outside of my not caring for him, Trestman and Ryan don't seem like personalities that would fit well together. They are opposites. I don't think the attitude Rex would bring is something Trestman would be comfortable with. There's no denying he can coach defense, though.

Ditka and Ryan never got along either. We got the '85 Bears out of that.

Ryan is a definite upgrade over Tucker but I still prefer Singletary and think he's a better fit with the Bears.

Pretty different comparison there and that didn't last long. I just can't see a guy like Rex here.

Not so much different. Both are personality clashes. In one case it was 2 dominant personalities, now it would be a quiet vs outgoing personality. Personality clashes are clashes, no matter what the basic personalities are. Adults deal with them.

As for not lasting..... who cares! I would gladly take another '85 Bears season even if it was a one year deal!

If there was a chance at that, no question.

Cant tell if serious...
I am. I think he'd be a very good DC. You don't apparently.
What makes you think that when he's never been one?
1. He knows good defenses. He was part of one of the best Ds in NFL history and learned from Buddy Ryan.2. If I recall correctly he had a good D in SF when he served as head coach there.

3. He has the passion needed for this D.

4. Relatively speaking, he can't be worse than Tucker.

I definitely agree with the last one. Lol

Should be an easy win this week. The bears have a nice schedule coming up. Wins against Miami, the Packers, Minnesota, and Tampa are highly likely, and they should be in sole possession of first in just over a month. Then it's on to the super bowl.

Lol at Cutler being Cutler. So tired of seeing dumb decisions and inaccurate throws wind up in the other team's hands. There's no doubt he's gone after the 2016 season. The only question is, can Emery/Trestman survive that long? IMO the jury is still out on Trestman but I think Emery has done a great job.

As for the rest of this season I've officially reset my expectations from "playoff team with a chance to go all the way" to "bad team who can lose to anyone". It's easier to watch the games expecting a loss than it is expecting a win and getting steamrolled every Sunday.
The Bears got steamrolled by the Bills and the Panthers? I am pretty sure they shot themselves in the foot. Even in the Packer game, they missed multiple chances in the first down to score 28-35 points....yes it is frustrating, but it is not like the Bears could not be 4-1 right now easily....sure they could be 1-4 too....but that is the NFL these days....not many juggernauts in the league and it is a week to week league....did you miss watching the Bucs almost beat the Saints? Or the Falcons lose to the Vikings and Giants on the road? Or the Lions lose to the Panthers and Bills? Or the Niners lose to the Cards led by the great Drew Stanton?
You're best served staying out of here for good and not just when the Bears lose. You come across more clueless with every single post. It's uncanny.

Just people out there that just cannot accept that the Bear's organization is just clueless. They gave a chump a ton of money to be just an average QB. Another pick today and another fumble. On top of that, they hire YET another coordinator that will never be HC material in the NFL and they refuse to FIRE the DC after a historically bad 2013 and instead tell the "faithful" that they have the ability to fix the gaps in their defense. After week 7 they have shown that the defense is no match but the offense is just mind blowing and it all starts with Cutler and the genius HC that is supposed to bring an incredible amount of offensive intelligence. Marshall sure looks stupid after claiming that pretty boy Jay would be the league MVP. There is clearly something seriously wrong with this organization but the cult like following that keeps plucking the money down to see 29 years of mediocrity and a paid to BS local media that lies thru their teeth to protect these bumbling ninnies is just old. This McCasky clown car needs to end. Go Blackhawks!

Eruptions in the locker room after the game. Bears players pissed about fans booing. No surprise there
Yup I read this on the Twitter feed for the SD vs. KC CBS game tracker. Amazing what happens when the fan base starts to turn. Now all it takes is the fan base to quit going to the games. Time to boycott the McCasky clown car.

I've pretty much lost faith in Trestman at this point. The team is almost never ready to play. It's embarassing.
Most fans have. It had a lot of promise for a short while. I remember a few of us hoping for Arians at the time and wondering who this CFL guy was. After a season and a half, it looks like Arians was the right pick. Trestman was just sexier. You're right. The team never looks prepared.

Never prepared and almost always pushed around.

Only game we were more physical was against the horrible Falcons.

So annoyed with this team right now. 3 wins, with 2 against garbage teams. Trestman and Cutler need to go.

This might only be a 6 win team... Which is bull#### for the talent they have.

I have faith in Emery, but no clue how he can unload Cutler.

There are two things that I think need to change. I think Tucker has to go. Last year the excuse was all the injuries. In the offseason they really restocked with all the draft picks and the free agents they brought in. They have improved defensively, but I don't think they have gotten a good return from all that they invested. My thought is that the coaching staff has done a piss poor job developing and utilizing the talent they have. I think they need to start over with the entire defensive coaching staff.

The other thing that has to change is the QB. Cutler will never be anything other than what he is, an inconsistent QB. Now it is to the point where you don't expect Cutler to win games, you just hope he doesn't lose the game. That is never going to change. I think Trestman is a terrific coach, but he has met his match in Cutler. This offense would be better with Orton or McCown at the helm. Orton or McCown would play within the offense. Cutler freelances and screws things up. You can't fix stupid. Cutler is stupid and that won't change.

The coaching changes will probably happen after the season. Maybe we can have hope that Trestman and Emery won't screw up when they hire a defensive staff. But, I don't have a lot of faith. They blew it badly the first time. The depressing thing is that even if they fix up the D, Cutler will still limit the upside this team will have. They are not getting to a Super Bowl with Cutler. The other problem is that Forte and Marshall will probably be done once they move past Cutler. It will be a much different team at that point.

Blah, blah, blah.

Defending Super Bowl Champs are at 3-3 and just lost to the Rams.

And they had players punching each other in the locker room. Before winning the Super Bowl.
