#Bears: 1 rush in 2nd half. Fewest by a team in a half in 4 years, per @ESPNStatsInfo. #Lions have good run D, but yikes, Marc Trestman.
Thats 48 passes and seven runs on the day. No team can win in the NFL that way. ~ Hub
this is really just lazy
if I could go back 8 yrs to reference
this game --- it just happens to be a memorable game for me, and I reference it now and again.
at the time, 4 of the patriots' prior 6 games were divisional wins in what is always considered a weak division, so the feeling was that this minny game would be a
real challenge that the pats might not be up to --- at minny, against the williams wall, which was a pretty tough d that finished the year with a league best 985 yards given up on the ground at a 2.8 ypc clip. yikes!
through 3 quarters the pats ran the ball about 8 times, threw 38, and rolled into the 4th up 31-7, with that 7 being on a minny punt return td.
that's with ben watson, reche caldwell, doug gabriel, and 35 yr old troy brown running wild downfield.
if you need a more recent game, we can look at just last week when the pats played this very same detroit team --- through 3 quarters they threw 43x and ran 10 to roll into the 4th up 27-6, eerily similar to the minny game, now that I'm typing it out.
anyway, I'm not in favor of taking forte out of the game to let cutty throw, but to make the blanket statement that it's some kind of poor scheme by an inept coach is pretty lazy and inaccurate hyperbole.
but was it even trestman?
it's been pointed out at least a couple times over the past few weeks that cutler has audibled out of run plays, and chosen pass over run on options more often than trestman would like, killing drives and turning the ball over.
I know you're aware of this as I've copied the blurbs either in here or in the cutler thread, as evidence that cutler is not a good qb, which is something I've been pointing out to people, like yourself, for a number of years.
but people, like yourself, see that rocket laser arm and insist on telling us that their boy could throw a football over that there mountain --- of course, when the offense is ####ed up because they don't run the ball, that must be a turible coach.
that's just lazy.
