I said earlier that Cutler isn't tradeable because of his contract. And I said that Cutler isn't worth that contract. But lets say that the Bears decided to eat his contract and cut him, and Cutler clears waivers. There are at least a half a dozen teams bidding that would be after him if he was a free agent. There are the Rams, the Jets, Tennessee, Washington, Houston, and Buffalo that would be much improved at the QB spot with Cutler as their starter. Tampa would be in the mix but they will probably have the first pick and grab Mariota. I wouldn't surprised to see the Eagles interested, or even the Browns. There are a lot of teams in need of a QB.

So which one of those guys do you want starting under center for you next year? Or do you want to go ahead and start the season with Jimmy Claussen? Are you comfortable using your first round pick on a QB? Here are the QBs drafted in the first round for the five years prior to this year(jury is still out on Bortles, Bridgewater, and Manziel) :

The three most successful ones, Luck, Newton and Stafford were all taken with the first overall pick. Of the rest the only one that appears to be growing in to a good QB is Tannehill. Finding a QB is hard.

That's a pretty thin list, but then again I thought Chicago would be hurting when Cutler went down and McCown had to fill in. Turns out the journeyman posted the best numbers of his career. Here are the games he started:

No way. This team has quit. They have given up on their coach and it looks pathetic. There are a lot of things that are cutler's fault, but that isn't one of them. Trestman has to go.

If we brought in the correct personnel people I don't care who starts at QB next year as this team isn't ready to win yet. There are too many holes to fill. I'd have no problem signing some journeyman that becomes available and just trying to strengthen the lines and secondary for two years as we wait for a potential starting QB to become available to us in the draft.

Christian Ponder might be a good choice so they can lock up the first pick in the 2016 draft. 
I think they need to try and develop a QB and maybe bring in one of the veterans above for competition. You would have to be crazy to think they are going to compete for the division next season unless Rodgers and Calvin come down with Ebola and spread it throughout their respective locker rooms. The Bears will be lucky to finish ahead of the Vikings next season because they are already of them in their rebuilding process which they need to undertake. Angelo's weak drafting has doomed the Bears along with Emery's first draft class. As of now his 2nd class isn't looking great either other than Long but it is too soon to tell. Jordan Mills was horrible before he got injured and Bostic reminds me of Cutler in that it looks like he has all of the tools but can't seems to handle the mental aspects of the game. I am happy to hear that the coaching staff looks like it won't be back but I am still wondering what they are going to do with Emery.

There is no quick fix at this point. I guess you could fire the entire coaching staff and GM. But then what? The GM lasted 3 years. Fired a coach following a 10 win season, then likely firing the next coaching staff after two. I don't think anything will make a huge difference at the moment, but I don't see how they could keep any of the coaching staff either. Emery has made lots of moves, which is more than Angelo ever did, but the team has only gotten worse in his tenure. Except for a couple of guys, his drafting skills look suspect at best so far.

You know, this may sound crazy, but I don't think the Bears are all that far from being a good team. On offense you still have arguable the best group of skill position players in the league, excluding Cutler. Culter is a pinhead, but I think you can win with him if you have a strong defense and a strong running game. Wilson should be a nice addition. He has the speed to take the top off the defense. If they can get something out of that third receiver spot it would really help.
The offensive line was pretty good last year. They need to solidify the right tackle spot. You could probably move Kyle Long to right tackle. They drafted Long because he has the physical tools to play tackle. If you don't move him you probably have to draft a tackle. I think it would be easier to draft a guard than a tackle. You get Slauson back, he was probably their best offensive lineman last year. If you can improve the line you do a couple of things, you are better able to run the ball. The Bears have not run the ball consistently this year. If you can run the ball you take pressure off the passing game. And if you can pass protect better you help Cutler. Cutler is much better throwing from a clean pocket. He gets in more trouble when he throws off his back foot, or when he is off balance. There is no reason to believe that the Bear couldn't be a top 10 offense with health and better offensive line play.
On defense you have more work to do. You actually have a pretty good core of tackles. Paea played very well this year, as did Ratliffe. Add in an improving Ferguson and Sutton and you have a pretty good tackle rotation. Jared Allen played better in the second half of the season. Houston and Young are okay. You could use a stud pass rusher to bolster that group. At linebacker both Bostic and McClellin played better in the second half of the season. With both of them playing on the outside you probably need a middle linebacker. Jennings played okay. Fuller was awful. He looked good for about three games. Let's hope that we see more of what we saw in the first few weeks. Maybe he had to learn as a rookie and he will be better next year. The safeties are horrible. So on defense you probably need at least one safety, a middle linebacker and a pass rushing end. A corner would be nice, but you can't get it all.
So if you could get a solid coach, Harbaugh for example, and a good coaching staff to help these young players develop. You go in to free agency and the draft with the intention of getting a guard/tackle, a pass rushing D end, a middle linebacker and a play making safety. I think that is all doable. You could possibly have a top ten offense, maybe even top five. If you could just improve the defense enough to be middle of the pack, you could be in the playoff picture. Harbaugh took an underachieving team in the Niners under Singletary and turned them around. No reason to believe he couldn't do that to the Bears.

I think that ship has probably sailed, as per Bernstein's sources and his demeanor after those reports hit. Instead, I think he's going to Clausen in an attempt to prove to the world everything has been Jay's fault.

If Jay Cutler is able to derail this entire team into looking like crap, with no accountability, no discipline, and just sucking, the coach needs to be fired anyways because he does not have the ability to be a head coach in the NFL.

Have to get into Trestmans head. If Clausen looks good and they win or look competent, he will at least have that to fight for his job.
Why do you care? You want to see Cutler....you haven't seen enough? I hope I never see him start another game in a Bear uniform.

How can any Bear fan have a problem with this? Only problem I have is that it's too late. Cutler isn't a winning qb.
Sure the D sucks even more than him but there is only so much you can do during the season about a D loaded with losers. He could've canned Tucker? Definitely should've. But let's be honest that wouldn't have made much of a difference.
