I don't think Sanchez will be selling insurance, or needs to keep getting game checks. He was drafted in the last CBA @#5. He also got 1 or 2 RIDICULOUS extensions to kind of make up for the fact they were treating him bad, whatever. I don't know what NYJ was thinking. But my point is he seems to know he needs to learn more. Doing so from an offensive "guru" while not having pressure to win might do that. It might not too, but that's just my guess if you try to think what Mark Sanchez is thinking.

That'd be my guess. He's still young, a chance to learn the system, maybe come in for a game or two and hopefully show he's capable of leading a team. Kinda surprised he's not going to Seattle to be honest, but he's got a chance still to parlay a good showing this year into a better contract next year.

Apparently that was one of the first places he checked and Carrol said they were fine with their QB situation

Tarvaris Jackson > Sanchize.
How would you know this? :lmao:
How could anyone not realize this?

It is certainly possible Chip reinvents Sanchez, but Tarvaris is a better NFL QB at the moment.
In the past 2 years that guy has thrown 13 passes......13. He also hasnt started a game since 2011. Am I right to assume you have seen all of this action and that's where your opinion is comeing from?

Love the Sanchez move. As long as he doesn't even think about saying "dream team" or even any phrase that rhymes with it during his opening presser.

A backup with some potential. Young (27), but experienced in that he has started 62 NFL games (33-29 record) in the regular season and 6 playoff games (4-2 record). And the NYJ were not very talented offensively between 2009-2012 anyways.

2009 leading WR was Cotchery

2010 leading WR was Edwards

2011 leading WR was Keller (TE)

2012 leading WR was Kelley

Yech.

I believe he has upside, is worth a shot starting somewhere and is a great signing for Philly at $3M for 1yr.

:hifive:

Tavaris Jackson stinks.
So does Sanchez
One can at least say they have potential :lmao:
I guess its debatable at least. Their numbers are not far off from eachother. They both suck
I'll take the 27 year old with potential and 62 starts under his belt over the 30 year old who has 34 starts and 13 passes in the past 2 seasons. Seriously, unless theres some underlying Jackson stat or someting supernatural about him than it's Sanchez in a route as far as who you want in a back-up role.

Was that the terms? If so, he's fighting for a roster spot. I was hoping for 2 years.

That was the deal terms as per the scrolling text on NFL Network. Just watched the 49ers comeback over the NYG in the 2002 playoffs. No hard link, sorry.

In other news, happy birthday Randall Cunningham.

I would rather have a guy that's been to two AFC championship games. T Jackson has been stealing money for years
Lets not act like Sanchez was Russell Wilson-like during those runs.
Being a game manager and letting his defense win games? I think that applies to both.Edited to add: That probably came off harsh but I'm not high on Wilson. It's fun to watch him play but I think he's overrated and own him in zero leagues because I think he's over valued.

One theory that I had written off is now making more sense. What was the one odd thing that happened to Desean between the playoff game and now. His house being robbed. Perhaps the Eagles caught wind of something worse going on there (insurance fraud for example) and were quietly trying to distance themselves without saying anything due to the investigation. This would also explain why Desean has been fairly positive in his commentary and not firing knee jerk expletives at the Eagles FO. He knows he might be screwed and doesn't want to damage his image for a new team.

It's another wild theory but it's starting to make more sense since that really is the only thing that we know happened outside of football this offseason.
Desean's new agent doesn't get paid anything unless he gets a new deal.

Which is probably why he started chirping right away. Doesnt mean the Eagles had to listen. You could put up with an overzealous agent. But if something extracurricular happened, then it's no longer worth it.

@howardeskin: Also @toddherremans charity event. J. Maclin on D jackson double team helping him. "Guys don't get double teammed other than Calvin johnson

@GeoffMosherCSN: Mark Sanchez's 1-year deal will max out at $4 million, base value about half that, per @MikeGarafolo. Sanchez will sign tomorrow.

One thing that's been mentioned is that Avant is no longer around to help keep DJax straight. It was no secret it was Avant who mentored Jackson.

From the linked article:

Yet the Eagles' apparent interest in jettisoning Jackson likely has little to do with his performance on the field or a big-money contract that could squeeze the team's salary cap. Rather, sources close to Jackson and within the Eagles' organization say, it's Jackson's off-field behavior that concerns the front office. A bad attitude, an inconsistent work ethic, missed meetings and a lack of chemistry with head coach Chip Kelly are the reasons, sources told NJ.com. And when the Eagles looked more deeply into why Jackson was missing meetings, they found that his friends were becoming a more powerful -- and negative -- influence in his life.

Now the Eagles have even more serious concerns -- Jackson's continued association with reputed Los Angeles street gang members who have been connected to two homicides since 2010.

So does Maclin or Cooper draw the #1 CB? Love Cooper vs #2 CB, not so sure vs #1 CB.

Well, that will open up a spot for a rookie WR as the #3 to start the season. Move that WR up the rookie draft boards.

DeSean Jackson has been released by the Eagles. Wow.
Eliot Shorr-Parks‏@EliotShorrParks2 mins

DeSean Jackson was cutting meetings to hang out with friends, a source confirmed. Relationship with Kelly was also a big concern. #Eagles

Jeff McLane‏@Jeff_McLane3 mins

#Eagles statement: After careful consideration this offseason, Eagles decide to part ways with DeSean Jackson. Team informed him.

Albert Breer‏@AlbertBreer7 mins

DeSean Jackson has been dogged by rumors of gang affiliation for years. The detail in that story shows why.

Bart Hubbuch‏@HubbuchNYP9 mins

Sounds like the Eagles don't want to wake up one random day to an Aaron Hernandez situation.

well at least I will always have the memory of DJax punt return for the win against the Giants.

Puts the pressure on Maclin to stay healthy and actually post 1000 yards in a season, but also the Foles/Cooper connection from last year will have to continue and I think Zach Ertz gets the biggest bump and could be in the top 5 fantasy TE discussion to start the season. Ever since signing Sproles it looked like he was going to take that Desean role of catching the quick short passes. There are lots of speed and deep threat guys in this years draft class.

Brandin Cooks is going to be the hot name linked to Philly now.

Knew it had to be something. While the Eagles should have got something for him, I understand the situation better now. Hopefully Howie learns for the future how to not show your hand and get something for a guy you're getting rid of.

I think we now know what they're going to aim for at pick 22.
Also they could trade up for a Mike Evans. Chip Kelly seemed to be keeping a close eye on him during the Combine. Lots of options with this loaded WR group. Quite possible they grab two guys as they have lost both Jackson and Avant.

At the same time it sounds as if a lot of NFL execs may have known about DeSean's issues and Howie was up #### creek without a paddle from the beginning. Someone will sign him though and quick. Just when things were starting to look so good for this team. <_<
