** Official 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Thread ** (1 Viewer)

@SeniorBowlPhil: For PHI, see DEF at #22 and WR in 2nd, 3rd or 4th rds: Allen Robinson/PSU, Jordan Matthews/Vandy, Paul Richardson/Colorado, Josh Huff/
Strongly agree with this. Davante Adams, high character guy with skills.
Jordan Matthews 6-foot-3, 210+ lbs, big hands, 4.46 40 time, not as many TD's as Evans but caught a higher % of TD's for his team than Evans.

Would love him in the 2nd, but I think he might be gone before the Eagles 2nd round pick.

There's just too many WR's there for some not to fall into round 2. He could be there or someone we never expected to be there.

I can't imagine why the Eagles would want anyone other than Foles given his production last year. He was nails.
But he is no Johnny Football. (Fan of Manziel but Eagles aren't taking a first round QB unless Foles falls down a flight of stairs or something. )

I have a hard time buying into the idea that the Eagles did an honorable thing by refusing to offload a problem player via trade. If there was a deal on the table Howie should have pulled the trigger. Other teams are responsible to do their own homework before they make a trade. And there doesn't appear to be any shortage of interest now, even after the cards are on the table.

I think Howie overplayed his hand, holding out for a better offer come draft day. We could have gotten something in return at one point, but once the story broke it was a futile endeavor.

As for the NJ.com article about DeSean's reported gang affiliations, Action News has learned the Eagles did not know about the story until Wednesday when they were given notice that it was being published.

After they learned the details of the article, it was determined that they could not, in good faith, trade Jackson to another team because it would reflect badly on the organization and would not be a good way to do business.

So I guess the Eagles 2015 cap problems got better with this move.

"Could not in good faith" translates to "No one will give us anyting now."

The silence from the organization thus far is particularly unnerving. I've heard speculation that they will not address the situation because of legal concerns, a possible defamation suit I suppose. Unacceptable, IMO. The shock and awe of this move demands that the GM and coach are front and center, not hiding behind lawyers. There is no ongoing criminal investigation of Jackson for them to tiptoe around. I want Howie or Chip in front of a microphone explaining to the fans why this was necessary, and how they think our team is better because of it. The fans have placed a lot of faith in Chip, but it could erode quickly if he doesn't step up to the plate here.

Who cares it they say something? Kelly wants talented team first, hard working, character players so for the fans that don't need it broken down to kindergarten level with explanation, the addition by subtraction regarding Jackson is rather obvious.

Just like the Eagles didnt get better by getting rid of TO the Eagles do not get better getting rid of Jackson.

This is a completely different circumstance and one that needs to be judged on its own merit. However, I agree on TO and I went on record at the time that TO was forced out because of Reid mistakenly yielding to a petulant McNabb. Interesting how time proved that.

They went from 6-10 with TO to 10-6 the next year without him.

I think it took Belichick a month after he was cut to comment on Hernandez - and he was facing multiple murder charges. No need for Chip to say anything right now.

Beat me to both responses :goodposting:

For fantasy purposes:

@EliotShorrParks: Before every game last year, Foles warmed up w/the same player -- Zach Ertz. That is the name that will benefit from Jackson leaving #Eagles

As a side note, there's going to be a lot of pressure placed on the shoulders of whatever rookie WR we take regardless of whether they are a 1, 2 or 3. Hopefully they pick a guy with the mental makeup to handle it.

Marqise Lee, Brandin Cooks, or Odell Beckham, Jr. as possible options now with the No. 22 overall pick?
The draft strategy should be completely unchanged. If any of those is BPA on their board when they are up, then sure. But don't reach if there's a better player available.

I don't understand your position here. In Belichick's case, there was less of a need to make a public statement, because obviously the team wasn't going to keep an accused murderer on the roster. Regarding Jackson, the situation is a lot murkier. There is no active investigation to worry about, and the motives for his release are anything but clear. Gang ties? Scheme fit? Contract demands? Cap number? Personality conflict? Practice habits? All of these issues have been rumored at some point to have contributed to Jackson's ultimate departure. The fans deserve some clarification, and perhaps a little reassurance of the team's direction.

Bringing Tim Tebow to camp for PR is the play.

I'm getting the impression that's the "why are they hiding and refusing to speak" crowd is expecting a TMZ like report from Lurie/Roseman/Kelly

You'll be right back here after saying they said nothing.

They went from 4-3 with TO to 2-7.
Fixed.

Don't think I will. I'm not looking for minute details on how the sausage is made, but I do think that some kind of public comment is warranted. The decision to release one of the best players on the team is pretty significant. And the silence is deafening.

We all know that there's gotta be more to this story and that we'll eventually find out what the deal is/was. However, I, as a lifelong Philly fan, would like to thank the 'on the field' Desean Jackson for all of the wonderful highlight plays, stretching the field against other teams, and the good times in Philly. I won't dump on him just to pile on. I am looking forward to us moving on and a bigger receiver with 90% of Desean's speed will be a welcome sight in the fall, I can tell you that!

I still hold trust that this administration knows what they are doing and look forward to the future. I still think this is the best time ever to be an Eagles fan!

Fly Eagles, Fly!!

Any reactions from other teammates besides Kelce? That would be interesting to hear I think.

Also kind of random but how many concussions did desean have, just the Dunta Robinson hit a couple years back?

So, trading for Sproles won't hurt Shady's value after all.
Wow, someone actually said that? LMAO. There are few, if any, RB's that would hurt his value more.
I'm thinking Sproles will be this team's Wes Welker. He might get a handful of snaps a game at RB, but mostly I think as a matchup tactic rather than a true RB2, especially at 31yo. He's here to catch the ball not run it.

This sucks. I understand that the team has to consider the big picture here, but it still sucks. Maybe I'll feel better about it come draft day.
Agree completely.Maclin, Sproles, two TE sets, blah blah.

DJax's deep speed stretched defenses. Can't believe we got nothing at all for him after a pro bowl season!
Horrible move, maybe one that is the undoing of Chip Kelly. Dude has a career year and you cut him but rave about Maclin who has never been more than average? Chip, Chip, Chip. I think this is better news for Cooper and Sproles than Maclin.
Do you purposely not understand any situation or is it just natural?
:goodposting:

And particularly :lmao: @ "the undoing of Chip." Chip Kelly could take a dump on Lurie's desk and still be safe. For years.
Not necessarily. Everyone thought Ray Rhodes was awesome after his 1st 10-6 season, he parlayed that 1st & 2nd year success into more personnel power and then drove the bus off the overpass.

Will come down to how much more eventually comes out re Jackson, if what is known now is the tip of the iceberg, then fair enough. But if he finishes out his career with the Redskins or somebody with nothing more than the usual low level jackassery then this will have been a mistake.

It's easy to coach a locker room of 53 Jason Avants, but it's a fantasy to think you can get that without sacrificing on something else, like talent. To me, one of the traits of great leadership is that you can work with different kinds of people equally well. I'll give Kelly the benefit of the doubt on Jackson, but I do feel less comfortable about him than I did before this played out the way it did.

This does hurt the team on the field obviously. It was hard enough last year to get teams not to stack the box and play man coverage, without Jackson I'm thinking we see a lot more press man, single high safety. I think we'll see teams take their chances with Maclin and Cooper to stop McCoy. That will be where the new wrinkles need to be introduced this year. We don't have the personnel to force the defense to spread out so formation becomes more important.

If nothing else, I'm looking forward to seeing how they adjust on the field.

Just a thought. ...we know Chip likes size...where would we have to trade up to to get Mike Evans I think it is from A&M? Any chance that happens?

Not much, they'd have to give up a lot I think to move up into the top 5-10 range where he's expected to go, and they're already short of picks in this deep draft class.

If only we had a talented player we no longer want on the team, and could get some draft value from somebody in return. :wall:

Haha, or at least shipped him to the AFC for a 7th so we don't have to face him twice a year.
