Don't know much about him.@EyeOnNFL: With the 101st pick (4th round) in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Eagles select DB Jaylen Watkins.
Versatility. The official buzzword of the Chip Kelly era.Big surprise they took him over McGill?
McGill is slipping. Wonder why... Watkins and Broussard ranked well beneath him by most... like the strength and speed of Watkins though!Big surprise they took him over McGill?
Eta: looks like added ST play factored in again. Good stuff.
And his versatility. I see zero issues with this pick.McGill is slipping. Wonder why... Watkins and Broussard ranked well beneath him by most... like the strength and speed of Watkins though!Big surprise they took him over McGill?

Chip Kelly loves versatile weaponson offense and defense. The Eagles added another one in DB Jaylen Watkins. He played S, CB and Nickelback for the Florida Gators. This is a guy who can do multiple things and be moved around in the defense.
Watkins is 5-11, 194. He ran 4.41 at the Combine so that adds serious speed to the defense. Watkins really stood out at the Senior Bowl. He was terrific in Mobile, just smothering receivers in the coverage drills. He had the speed to run with them, but also the agility to handle cuts and moves. Watkins has pretty good ball skills. He broke up 20 passes over the last 3 years, despite being moved around. He only picked off 3 passe at UF, but hes got good hands.
I prefer using Watkins at CB. He really stood out in Mobile in man coverage. Im not sure that skill is going to have the same value at Safety as it does at CB. Well see what the Eagles have planned for him. He has the size and skills to handle multiple spots.
Bill Davis was at Watkins Pro Day and the Eagles brought him to Philly for a visit so this is someone they had a lot of interest in.
Solid pick.
The Eagles considered moving back, but didnt want to lose Watkins. This is a player they really wanted.
Very cool. No issues whatsoever with the pick, was wanting DB or OLine. I liked McGill, bc of his size... but if versatility os valued and they like him then welcome to the NFC East champs, Mr. Watkins.@lawlornfl: Some quick thoughts on DB Jaylen Watkins, the newest Eagle. http://t.co/nfri9pcihC

The coverage of it on TV or the Eagles' choices?I can't stomach this draft
Kinda. 6'0" 190. Not small. Just like McGill at 6'3" 210 a lot. But as stated, Watkins more versatile for sure.Watkins also has good size as wellVery cool. One more live cut in to Michael Sam and friends and I'd say both. The coverage of it on TV or the Eagles' choices?I can't stomach this draft
For a conditional 4th that could become a 3rd.We have traded Bryce Brown apparently...
To Buffalo for a conditional 2015 4th rounder. We have traded Bryce Brown apparently...
more then I thought we'd get for him@AdamSchefter: For Bryce Brown, Eagles are getting back a conditional 4th-round pick in 2015 that can be a 3rd in 2016, per source.
Downside, sure, but I think Oakland got a good player and a great value here:These were the weaknesses on McGill who was just picked by Oakland:
Weaknesses
Lacks the physicality and toughness desired at safety. Does not support the run aggressively or play to his size. Average transitional quickness. Footwork needs refinement. Recorded the worst 3-cone time (7.29 seconds) among cornerbacks at the combine. Will be a 25-year-old rookie. Still has some junior-college work habits and needs to learn what it means to be a pro.
Lol why Stevie Johnsons performance?@GeoffMosherCSN: It'll either be Buff's 4th rd pick in '15, 3rd rd pick in '16, or 4th rd pick in '16. Condition tied to Stevie Johnson's performance this yr
Because the pick they are trading to us is the conditional compensation they got from SF for Johnson.Lol why Stevie Johnsons performance?@GeoffMosherCSN: It'll either be Buff's 4th rd pick in '15, 3rd rd pick in '16, or 4th rd pick in '16. Condition tied to Stevie Johnson's performance this yr
Ah that makes sense. Weird trade.Because the pick they are trading to us is the conditional compensation they got from SF for Johnson.Lol why Stevie Johnsons performance?@GeoffMosherCSN: It'll either be Buff's 4th rd pick in '15, 3rd rd pick in '16, or 4th rd pick in '16. Kind of makes me nervous in case of McCoy injury not sold on Polk.So McCoy, Sproles, Polk at RB. Kind of thought Brown was odd man out when we signed Sproles.
Shefter mentioned Spiller and FJax on last year of deals, so maybe he gets a shot there. Talented guy.
We have two 5ths. And a 7th.Kind of makes me nervous in case of McCoy injury not sold on Polk. So we only have a 5th and 7th left?So McCoy, Sproles, Polk at RB. Kind of thought Brown was odd man out when we signed Sproles.

It's not a sexy one....but I don't think they were in the position to make it a sexy one.Im not saying its a blah draft, but its definately not an exciting draft for the Eagles. Not one of this picks stand out, except maybe Matthews.
My hope is that Chip is really trying to build the depth of the team. To make all facets of the team better and not focus on one area. Im bullish, but will reserve my judgement until we see how these players pan out.
That said, looking back on the 2013 draft we did well. Not saying we nailed it, but Chips first draft wasnt Reidesque.
So the conditions were put forth in the original Bill/9ers trade? Am I understanding that correctly?Because the pick they are trading to us is the conditional compensation they got from SF for Johnson.Lol why Stevie Johnsons performance?@GeoffMosherCSN: It'll either be Buff's 4th rd pick in '15, 3rd rd pick in '16, or 4th rd pick in '16. I'm not sure anyone outside the war room understands this trade correctly. It seems that there were conditions attached to the compensation for Stevie Johnson, then further conditions added when the pick was flipped to the Eagles. So the conditions were put forth in the original Bill/9ers trade? Would be nice to add a RB with one of these late picks, but they are going fast. Marion Grice still available, bit of a McCoy clone.Kind of makes me nervous in case of McCoy injury not sold on Polk.
