Darren Sproles, today's MVP. With a shout out to the defense after a pretty bad start.

Escaped with our life in this one.

I honestly don't think Jax is that bad. Their defense will be above average. Although Henne's sucktitude probably helped. Nice win.

However, all of the Super Bowl hype should be put to rest for now. They may get there but they are in Seattle's class right now.
It never should have been started. Vegas has them at +/-9 wins. King started that nonsense with home field throughout during preseason against Pittsburgh, and then quite a few fell in line. 9-10 wins is what they are and have been.

@Gil_Brandt: .@Eagles are 1st team in NFL history to win game by at least 17 points after being shut out and trailing by 17+ points at halftime

@BrandonGowton: Alex Henery kicked a total of 37 touchbacks last season (2.3 per game). Parkey already has 5 on 7 attempts.
After Parkey's 51 yd field goal, Alex Henery was quoted as saying, "Do you want fries with that?".

I really like how the defense adjusted in this game. The Jags didn't do anything after the first quarter. Hurn burned us early but disappeared when they needed him most. Offensively I think our play count was 77 and it definitely seemed liked we wore them down once we settled in.

Glad to get the win, But we can't afford three first half turnovers against the Colts next week.

Absolutely and they will be desperate for a win next week too. I'm hoping it was just opening day jitters and that reality has set in that you can't just cake walk an NFL team. Even Jacksonville.

I think Jenkins (as well as Williams) was the goat on the 1st Jacksonville TD. It was a balanced 2 TE formation, both WRs ran verticals, the right hand TE stayed as a blocker, the left hand TE released vertically, without showing a run block and broke to the sideline at about the 20, Allen went with him. The RB released into the left flat. On the replay you can see Jenkins between the hash marks as the ball goes overhead so I'd say he had the deep middle in Cover 3. Both Williams and Fletcher were playing outside leverage so they were expecting someone inside, they were both beaten by a couple of yards as well. Williams let the cushion close then Hurns just ran by him. I think they were surprised the Jags took a deep shot.

Looked bad for Allen because he was the one trailing in shot, but I think he did what he was supposed to do.

I think Jenkins and Allen share the blame for the second one. Jags had two TEs to the left, two WRs to the right. They only released the two WRs everyone else stayed in blocking. They ran a slant with the outside WR, (Hurns) a bubble (no screen blockers) from the inside WR back towards the outside. It was Cover 3 again so the underneath guys, Jenkins (lined up over the slot WR) and Fletcher (outside) primarily, should have just stayed home and made the tackle. Jenkins though bit towards the bubble guy (now Fletcher's man) which opened the passing lane for the slant. If he'd stayed put the throw might not have been there.

Allen was just way too deep, the ball was caught at the 12 and Hurns had to jump and twist in the air to make the catch. Allen made contact at the 3 and got dragged into the end zone. Luckily things got better from there is all I can say.

The Interception.

At first glance this looked like a really dumb, ugly, careless throw and was probably the play I was most disappointed in. Looking at the play again, there was more happening than I thought. It seemed like on first watch the player who got the pick (#23) was trailing Celek in coverage off the line, but not so. #37 ran to Celek and squared up to him, while #23 moved wide as if he had flat responsibility. When Foles saw Celek clear #37 he threw a nice catchable ball to the corner of the end zone. Except they switched. #37 went to the flat on McCoy and #23 sank into the end zone right under the pass and picked it off. Given how popular the end zone corner route is, I think that was deliberate bait. Foles took it and got the hook.

Wasn't so much a careless mistake as getting owned by a clever coverage disguise.

End zone INTs are unacceptable, but if there's going to be one I'd rather it happened with good execution of a smart defensive play design than how it looked at first glance.

I have no clue what Cooper saw though...he didnt seem to see the ball or adjust to it at all. He seemed to have his mind made up that this was a jump ball by the corner.

Maybe it was good coverage, but still a godawful throw. That ball needs to be high and to the back of the end zone so only Cooper can catch it regardless of what he seen from the coverage.

What I was trying to say is that it wasn't an INT because it was a bad throw. It got picked because he misread the coverage and made the wrong throw. Because he didn't see #23 at all, he threw a touch pass to a guy he thought was wide open. Turns out he wasn't. Didn't seem like Celek saw it either.

Anyone with a problem with the way Foles played should have watched the Dallas and Redskins games. He killed me in fantasy but it's nice to see he(and the team) tough one out as a fan.

I gotcha now, makes sense that way.

Thanks for this.

LaMichael James has been released by the 49ers. Adam Caplan says he's subject to waivers, which makes me think he won't get to the Eagles even if they want him.

RG3 looked really bad. That trade has killed that team. I have some sympathy for Romo. Must suck to know if you don't score 30+ you have no shot at winning. Jerry is the new Al Davis; the team will suck as long as he's alive. I'd take Foles straight up over Romo and probably RG3 as well. Running QBs have to be big like Cam Newton, little guys break.

I do have problems with the way Foles played though, just because he pulled it back a bit in the 2nd half and we won going away doesn't mean there isn't a lot to be fixed. He's got to learn he can't wander around in the pocket like he did in that game, bad things happen. Roll out left or right if it's there or climb the pocket. If he can't do those check it down or throw it away, stat. This will become even more important with all the line disruption we're having.

I do like that he put it back together for the 2nd half, when that pick happened I thought the wheels were going to come off completely. There were some nice plays in there as well. Once the All22 comes out I'll have some more half baked opinions to vent in here.

Holy crap the other three teams in this division are probably all in the bottom 8 of the league. I see the floor for this team at 10 wins just by the fact that they play these 3 scrubs twice.

It would be a travesty if the Eagles lose to any of the other 3 teams. The Giants are playing like a JV team the day after prom night.

Interesting watching Chargers 2nd rd pick OLB Jeremiah Attaochu block a punt and get a sack/FF while Marcus Smith is invisible.

I just came in here to post about the exact same thing. Although I wasn't going to use the word "interesting"... I was thinking more like "nauseating"
The kid did have a good night...whats bad is that if we picked him instead of Smith he'd be right where Smith was on Sunday and thats playing behind Barwin and Cole...

Exactly. People need to settle down with Smith. Its one game with established veterans that played well ahead of him. He'd have to be Ray Lewis 2.0 to get out there right away on any team with the same situation.

What's worse is that Jason Verrett played like a Pro Bowl CB

@caplannfl: #Eagles G/T Allen Barbre (high ankle) is expected to have surgery which could end his season, a league source said.
Wow, must be worse than just a high ankle sprain then.

Foles is the best QB in the div on his worst day. After watching Eli too, the a Eagles win the division by default.

@alexmarvez: Source tells @foxsports that @Eagles have agreed to contract terms with OL Wade Smith

@EliotShorrParks: #Eagles have reportedly signed OL Wade Smith, according to @alexmarvez. More info on Smith here: http://t.co/qM8kvDt7Uq

Agree with that, and I expect he'll bounce back fine. That holding the ball forever thing has to get fixed though, especially with the line in such a mess.

Per PFT, Johnson's suspension may be lifted if there is a new agreement on drug testing policy between the NFL and NFLPA, depending on what he actually took.

Barbe started at right tackle in the absence of Lane Johnson, who was suspended four games for violating the PED policy. It’s possible that Johnson’s suspension will be lifted, if his suspension arose from a stimulant that would shift to the substance-abuse policy in the offseason.
Fingers crossed.

So Allen Barbre & Najee Goode go to IR, done for the year. Mathis goes to IR-DFR and can come back in 8 weeks. Kevin Graf and Emmanuel Acho added to the active roster. And we signed Wade Smith. That's not the ideal way to start the season. Barbre wasn't playing great, but he was still our first backup OL off the bench. ILB was weak already. If DeMeco or Kendricks go down, we're in a lot of trouble.
