** Official 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Thread ** (2 Viewers)

The DBs are coached not to look for the ball. This needs to be changed ASAP. It's not what the best secondaries do, and it's led to constant burnings and penalties all season.

Eagles just can't defend the deep pass. Not going to consistently win against good team until we do so. The rate we give up 3rd and longs are astonishing.

I believe the Colts will beat the Cowboys next week. However, I don't believe this team is capable of winning at Washington and at New York.

Can you imagine what Odell Beckham Jr. is going to do after Dez's performance?

Have you seen New York or Washington? They're dreadful. But no way this team can win vs. Green Bay or Seattle. Not a contender till we get a QB.

Yeah this is the way the league works. It's very rare to win a Superbowl without a stud QB. Perhaps Foles can be that guy but he will be rusty.

Nothing like Wash and NYG to knock off the rust.

Is he cleared to play next week? I thought he was out for the regular season?

I put this loss firmly on Sanchez. He had time and he had open receivers. He missed too many easy throws that any NFL starting QB should make.

We definitely need some upgrades in the secondary though.

Leading the league in turnovers will eventually catch up and cost you.
All the breaks that fell for them last year (health, turnovers, etc.) are now going against them. I think I also remember reading an article that said that turnovers are fairly arbitrary (at least on defense). So last year you had Foles get away with some passes and then you just have bad luck like the Celek play.

He had very little to do with spotting them 21 points. They (and by that I mean Chip) have to figure out a way to grind out first downs. Their play calls seem almost to ignore down and distance.

Sanchez wasn't great but this loss is hardly on him.

Sanchez had at least FIVE routine plays to receivers running WIDE OPEN 15 or more yards downfield tonight. ON at least 3 of those drives the Eagles were forced to punt.

Of course it isn't 100% on Sanchez, but a top 10 NFL QB wins this game.

Who needs secondary when you can draft Marcus Smith?
Lol it is amazing that will we likely finish 11-5, better record than last year but miss the playoffs. Going to be a LONG off season if that happens.
I'm really not sure what to make of this year. They honestly shouldn't have that good of a record. They're still not beating quality opponents and they're special teams carried them early on, been a strange year to say the least.

:goodposting: This doesn't feel like an 11-5 team but the league is just so mediocre. There are only about 3-4 legitimate elite teams (Packers, Seahawks, Patriots, Broncos IMO). The rest of the teams have major flaws.

Dallas and Indy don't count as quality opponents? Close road losses to Arizona, San Fran (when they were still good), and...well forget GB....count as huge negatives?

This is a good team....it just isn't ready to truly contend for a title. It's lacking just a few pieces (mostly in the defensive secondary)

:goodposting: I feel like this team is in the 2nd tier and they're right on the cusp. The big question mark is whether or not Foles is truly elite. If he's not, this team will have problems because they're too good to end up with a franchise QB through the draft.

philly still has a good shot at the division. As a Cowboys fan, I'm nervous as hell that we'll #### the bed in the last two weeks.

That said, I'd love to see you guys in the playoffs! That's crockpot cheese dip and all day beer drinkin football!

Eh, Dallas is the same class as us. Nice Thanksgiving win, but they'll beat you too. Never mentioned negatives and you just can't forget GB! That's who I'm talking about, beating the elite, Chip's record isn't stellar against playoff teams. And I agree with ya, they're good but not a real SB threat yet. But we knew that coming into the season. It's all good, they just need to keep adding players.

Whaa?! Any QB can run Chip's system

Just got back from the game. What a brutal start. We really had some momentum going but our D continues to come up small and the wrong times. Oh and man does Sanchez suck.

You really have to question how much of a genius someone is running a 5'5 180lb back on the GL. I get that makes it work and I'm just playing some sour grapes but this offense has hardly lit the NFL on fire, especially without DJax.

Yes, top 5 in the league in both total points and offensive yards gained/game is very solid.

What 5.5" 180 lb back? Sproles? He's a bit bigger then that and scored on that carry... not sure where you'er going with all of this.

15-4 Nick Foles record under Chip Kelly over two seasons

4-7 QBs not named Nick Foles in "Chip Kelly's magical system"

I can't wait until Chip gets his guy in the draft (let's not count Matt Barkley). Any QB can run this QB friendly offense. Just plug in play at the most important position in all of sports.

What is this supposed to mean? Sproles has been the most effective back in the red zone and other other 3rd and short plays all year? How many Eagles' games have you watched?

They have had red zone difficulties, but using Sproles has nothing to do with it.

I go back and forth on who is more at fault, but in the end I feel like if Sanchez makes those throws like a competent QB the Eagles keep drives going and are able to keep up. His first INT was brutal too. The Eagles defense had their own problems, but they were able to stabilize long enough to let the offense get them back in the game. Then Sanchez chokes on a few drives when there were obviously plays to be made and it was too much for the defense to deal with. They are a good, opportunistic defense, but they can't carry anyone. Any QB should be able to make the throws he missed. Really bad

The lack of talent in the secondary really chaps my ###. Its not like they are under-performing or plagued by injury. This is what everyone knew they were before the season started! Marcus Smith was a huge swingandamiss but so was going into the season with that defensive backfield and $15 million in cap space. Dez looked like he was sleepwalking thru one of those TD's.

And will someone please tell Cary Williams that if you are going to mug someone, a.) do it to Dez, not T Williams and b.) at LEAST turn your head to look for the ball! ####### brutal to watch the same bull#### from him week in and week out.

This game highlighted the shortcomings. Sanchez, Cooper, and Fletcher shouldn't be starting on an NFL team. Unfortunately 1 plays the most important position in sports. Run defense is sufficient but the pass rush is sporadic with the Marcus Smith bust. OL has not consistently run blocked which may be because of the poor QB play and lack of any vertical passing game.

This team is good but unfortunately I get the sense that it has so many holes that are exposed at different times by good opponents that the only way this team wins a championship as constructed is with a dominant QB. Please let me know when one walks in the door.

ETA: McCoy is gone this year.

If the Cowboys are the Cowboys of the last 18 years, they will lose against Indy this week. If they have turned the page, they will beat the Colts (which I am expecting).

I would love to play the Cowboys in the playoffs (with Foles, not Sanchez), but about the only way for the Cowboys and Eagles to both be in the playoffs is for the Lions to lose out.

Go Jay Cutler!

He's been in a sweatshirt on the sideline for about 7 weeks now.
