LoveThat ending ruined my day. Really wanted to see Ivory Coast get out of group for once. And there's nobody I'd less like to see move on than Greece.

Lol, but those odds should have been lower....http://msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/luis-suarez-bite-wins-5600-for-bettor-062414
Not everyone was mad at Luis Suarez for biting Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday.
One Norwegian man won $5,600 thanks to Suarez's habit of sinking his teeth into his opponents.
According to Afterposten, Norway's largest newspaper, Thomas Syversen took a chance on the 175-to-1 odds that Suarez would bite someone during the match.
"This is probably the sickest game I've handed in, not to mention the sickest game I've won," Syversen told Afterposten (the quote was then translated).
Sick, indeed.
I have been watching the WC in depth since TNT was butchering the broadcasts back in 1990.That was entertaining.
16-way tie for 17th place IMO.No matter what happens in later games, the US will now finish ahead of Italy, Spain, England, Croatia, Cameroon, Australia, Bosnia, Japan, Ivory Coast and at least one of Portugal/Ghana.
one thing is clear.I'm no longer speaking of this as a great World Cup, instead, all time great sporting event.
SPARTA!That ending ruined my day. Really wanted to see Ivory Coast get out of group for once. And there's nobody I'd less like to see move on than Greece.

I don't know if they do it any more but FIFA used to use a countries exact placement in the previous 3 world cups in some of their seeding formulas. They definitely did not treat a team who did not advance with 4 points the same as a team who got blown out in all three games, nor should they.16-way tie for 17th place IMO.No matter what happens in later games, the US will now finish ahead of Italy, Spain, England, Croatia, Cameroon, Australia, Bosnia, Japan, Ivory Coast and at least one of Portugal/Ghana.

I don't know either, but Samaras, currently a free agent, played for Celtic last year. I assume his goals just don't count in that list.it is escaping me. Who scored from Scotland?

I think Ted is likely using who ever they played for last (which makes sense) and not who they are currently signed with, else Villa might have gone under MLS instead of La Liga as I think Ted correctly put him.I don't know either, but Samaras, currently a free agent, played for Celtic last year. And that's not far from where I'd put MLS worldwide, so something seems to be about right there.
In that case SPL should have 2. And I didn't realize that was a hand-compiled list. Ted's doing some awesome work then.I think Ted is likely using who ever they played for last (which makes sense) and not who they are currently signed with, else Villa might have gone under MLS instead of La Liga as I think Ted correctly put him.I don't know either, but Samaras, currently a free agent, played for Celtic last year. FIFA has gone away from this for at least the last 2 World Cups (maybe 3 even) and just use the FIFA World Rankings published about a month before the final draw. But this is FIFA. They have been known to changed the rules of the game late if it would so suit them. Given that the next World Cup is in Europe and the poor showing that that continent has had this World Cup (and the fact that you can expect a large number of the teams that have made the knock-out round this time to return - probably 4 if not 5 CONMEBOL, potentially 3 CONCACAF, I can't fathom that they would go back to the old way using weighted results from previous World Cups in the formula. Europe wouldn't stand for it.I don't know if they do it any more but FIFA used to use a countries exact placement in the previous 3 world cups in some of their seeding formulas.
The US has every right to be proud of how they played even if they don't advance while there are some other countries that should not be feeling good at all IMO.
Yes to both imo. (not sure which one specifically you are asking about)I missed the afternoon matches - legit penalty?
Yes. Unfortunate, clumsy tackle but clipped his legs as he was about to shoot.I missed the afternoon matches - legit penalty?

The group games will be heavily weighted in the next FIFA rankings. Paradoxically, the rankings are probably their most accurate immediately following the tournament (except for the non-qualifiers) and less accurate towards the end of the four year cycle when they're actually used for something meaningful.FIFA has gone away from this for at least the last 2 World Cups (maybe 3 even) and just use the FIFA World Rankings published about a month before the final draw. Just brutal for a Liverpool fan. He's a genius on the field and obviously carried the team to the CL again after several years out. But he's also a complete POS and it's basically impossible to cheer for the guy now.FIFA's disciplinary code allows action to be taken retrospectively via video evidence even if the incident has been seen by the referee.
Article 77 of FIFA's disciplinary code states the disciplinary committee is responsible for "sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match officials' attention" and "rectifying obvious errors in the referee's disciplinary decisions".

SamarasThanks to everyone who said Samaras. That must be the player.
That's pretty much how I'm doing it, with the exception of players on loan where the loan ran out. In those cases, I've been giving those goals to whichever league owns the player's contract.I think Ted is likely using who ever they played for last (which makes sense) and not who they are currently signed with, else Villa might have gone under MLS instead of La Liga as I think Ted correctly put him.I don't know either, but Samaras, currently a free agent, played for Celtic last year.
