Predicting a brace for Fred today and another on Sunday to win the cup for Brazil and become a Selecao legend. Fred sold to Spurs this summer for £8m and leads them to win the English double in 2015-16 at the age of 32, then offloaded to Real for £27m. Fred returns to Fluminese at 36 and leads it to one more Brasileiro Serie A title before going into semi-retirement with the Red Bulls.
#1 Fred Fan alias still available.

Again, anyone care to comment why the first Colombian goal was disallowed?

I was watching without sound so I didn't hear the explanation. They looked to be onside though.

BTW, that's ridiculous. Everybody knows Jo is going to score back to back perfect hat tricks culminating in a weak foot scorpion kick to win the final. He'll then be brought back to Manchester to lead the Citizens to Champions League titles.

Called offside.
In retrospect, were they offside? The fix was in IMO.
Two players were offside(correctly called), one was the guy on the ground preventing Cesar from collecting the ball. The flag went up and whistle blew well before the goal was scored.

It was the correct call

Two guys offside, IIRC. Pretty sure it wasn't super close (at least as far as offside calls go).

The old reverse jonx, eh? :lmao:

Brazil wins today, beating ARG in the final. Germany is good, but Brazil will be getting all the calls. Chance of a Brazil penalty about 50%

I do think Brazil is going to get away with quite a bit today, but I think Germany is still going to be too much for them.

114 degrees in Qatar today. 114 degrees in Qatar tomorrow. Highs forecast in the 110s for the next 10 days, never getting below 90 for a daily low temp.

Can we go ahead and move it to the U.S. now, FIFA?
Would Qatar still get an automatic bid?
No, they wouldn't.

Just looked at the current weather there and it simply isn't conducive to playing. When the weather is 97F and the dewpoint is 80F (60% humidity), that's almost unbearable. That's significantly worse than the weather in Manaus or anywhere else I can think of.

FWIW most books have Brazil slightly favored. Not sure what SB is thinking here.
Maybe taking a stand on team quality - Germany has been a much better squad so far.
 doesnt matter what you, I, or they think about team quality. Odd to see a book expose themselves so much by being so far off the consensus line, creates an arbritrage opportunity with some pretty good limits. Looks like someone has taken advantage, as their line has come down 15 points.

Nope - it sure doesn't. They obviously had a reason - that is a pretty big outfit.

(And if you look at my WC bracket you'll see why I don't bet these things; my comments on odds making are suspect at best. :P )

Getting psyched for the match and hoping Germany gets some revenge for 2002.

That final in 2002 was at 7am local time and the only bar that really catered to any soccer coverage was open. The bar was owned by a guy from Greece and he advertised they would be serving breakfast for the game. As I remember it was just cheap microwave breakfast biscuits, but we didn't care. My son, 14 at the time, and I made our way over to watch it. He is a Brazil fan and he had the better of it that day.

I wish I was in Charlotte today so we could watch it together today.

Unfortunately for Brazil fans and for all neutrals, there is no Rivaldo, no Ronaldinho and definitely no Fenomeno Ronaldo playing today.

Yeah... I've really been missing Rivaldo.

Suck index = 177. No way can you play in that.

They even got "Dohasaster."

Scolari hints that my favorite player might get selected today:

“If I play with three defensive midfielders, I will give more freedom to the fullbacks. With two defensive midfielders, there will be less freedom. That is all that I can say,” Scolari said.

Scolari> hey

I am torn

Brazil has hulk and Fred

but germany has that awesome goalie who wanders all over the place

tough call

FIFA on Monday announced that the more than 1,000 drug tests performed on players at the 2014 World Cup have all come back negative, and that every player on each of the 32 competing teams -- 736 in total -- had provided blood and urine samples. FIFA said players from the tournament’s four remaining teams would be subject to further random testing with the results expected before their team’s next game. The last time a player was caught doping at a World Cup was in USA 1994 when Argentina’s Diego Maradona tested positive for ephedrine and was sent home.

Soccer officials have long held the view that the game is largely immune from the use of performance enhancing drugs that has badly tarnished other sports such as cycling. On Monday, Michel D’Hooghe, chairman of FIFA’s Medical Committee, which carried out the tests at the World Cup, said he did not think the use of performance enhancing drugs was widespread. “I will never say there is no doping in football but I say there is no doping culture in football,” he said.

They'll just move it. I wonder instead of moving it into the winter if they just pushed it to the start of September. Push club season back a month or so. Most Euro leagues are still playable so they could just go into June.

I guess leagues would be pissed that they can't train together but guys would come into the season ready to play. It'd also be interesting to give teams 3-4 months of preparation before. Probably result in better play although might hurt the US with the MLS.

It is still too hot in September. The average temp is still around 100. 1 day in ten will exceed 107.

They have stayed relatively consistent (for FIFA anyway) that it must be played in the winter.

this seems odd to me
