Hey look the same people complaining about diving again, what a shock.

Is this the only reason you watch, just to complain? That is seriously screwed up.
Opposite. Celebrating that it got called, actually.
:lmao: That's a flop and Neymar wasn't really hurt. You're the worst
I'm not saying it was a clean challenge, and don't know the rule, frankly. But you either have to give the penalty or call the dive there. You can't tell me he didn't throw himself to the ground. To me, his fall was more than 51% a product of acting over less than 49% contact. Not claiming that's the rule - just what seems fair.

You have to admit he threw himself to the turf, no?

(And I didn't say Neymar wasn't hurt, just sarcastically suggested the Brazil team dives a lot. Wouldn't have made the comment if I knew the severity).

If they used my standard for diving, the game would be played much more upright than it is today.

Once there's a foul committed, which there was, why do people care how they act? It's when there's no foul/contact that everyone hates but some people seem hung up on the fouls, too.

Also, tasker has a well put post in here somewhere that explains the falling on contact. I'll try to summarize it- players are taught to disengage from contact like that. If every challenge has two guys going 100%, there'd be a broken leg every game.

The defender already went out of this game injured from that challenge so you know there was solid contact. That's with one player letting up and falling over.

"If they used my standard for diving, the game would be played much more upright than it is today."

What's your standard?

He can either run through the leg or jump over it. It's not a "flop" if the player dives over a leg to avoid contact. Oscar did probably "embellish" a bit with his arms flailing, at least it appeared so in slo-mo, but not a dive IMO.

EDIT: Nevermind, its not real. But its still :lmao: schtik

In other news, state-controlled television in North Korea is reporting that the North Korean National team has reached the world cup final where they will face Portugal. Video must be seen to be believed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJoRZOK18Fg

Article below:

A video has appeared online apparently showing North Korea’s state controlled media telling their football fans that the national team have reached the World Cup final in Brazil…

We’ve known for a long time now that supreme leader Kim Jong-un controls the flow of information to his people, with the television channels only reporting positive stuff about the country.

But in a brilliant spoof report posted on YouTube, the media appears to be caught broadcasting that North Korea are on course to win the biggest prize in football, despite not actually qualifying for the World Cup.

The report says North Korea’s brave side crushed Japan 7-0, USA 4-0 and China 2-0 in the group stages, before going on to reach the final… against Portugal.

Of course, the real final, which takes place this Sunday, is between Germany and Argentina.

Included in the coverage are ‘highlights’ from the matches, with the team shown scoring goals and cheering – although the clips look pretty old

I have no idea what the final score is going to be tomorrow but I don't see any way possible for Argentina to win. Yes, they have Messi but the surrounding cast is not up to the task, imo. I'd like to see Argentina win but I don't see it happening.

Germany 4 - Argentina 2 (never having the lead)

I presume then, since there is NO way for Argentina to win, you have taken out a second mortgage on the house and bet it all on Germany. Or do you just talk big?

I think Germany will probably win; but I wouldn't call it a sure thing. Argentina's defense has been pretty good, having gone 373 minutes without giving up a goal. And Messi is Messi; he might only need an opportunity that lasts one second.

There is no doubt that Germany has been the most impressive side; but the reason they play the games is the best team doesn't always win. That happens in club football and it happens in the World Cup.

Argentina can absolutely win. I think Messi will score one goal, maybe two. The winner of this game probably wins 2-1.

"Don't see any way possible" is very LHucksian. That will get you called out in here. It is two of the greatest teams in the world. The actual 2 best really. Argentina has a lot of avenues to win the game. There is a reason they are the underdogs, but the is also a reason they aren't like 5-1 underdogs either. It is going to be a battle.

Watching the Canelo Alvarez/Erislandy Lara fight....Memo Ochoa is just chillin in the ring with Oscar De La Hoya waiting for Alvarez to enter. They showed him in the crowd in-between rounds of the undercard and the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Did they give him a yellow card?

When is that dude going to sign with a club?

Also, I didn't realize there were fights tonight. What channel is the UFC on?

There is no UFC event this weekend.

UFC contract is with Fox (mostly FX1)

I was just giving him #### for calling hand only combat "fighting".

Love Sabella saying "we need to play the perfect game". I think Argentina know they need to stay completely in focus. They know it is an uphill battle, and I think they will have their hiking shows on.

dead horse and all...

but yeah- if the defender puts his leg out in a way that is clearly going to foul the attacker, the attacker can has four choices:

1- Stay upright and get fouled... and risk injury with every single tackle during the game [/Ham]

2- Do his best to avoid the foul, which likely means losing possession of the ball by having to run around the tackle (in this specific case, not possilble IMO since it was bang-bang with Oscar going at pace) and not get the foul called... even though the defender was fouling you by impeding your play.

3a- Ride the tackle (which is what all players are taught), but unweighting the foot/leg that is about to get hit and hope that you can continue on with the play, even though in a situation like this- you are going down and it's going to look more dramatic than it might because you're already essentially throwing yourself up in the air to avoid the tackle. But this creates the same issue with #2 or risking not getting the call.

3b- Ride the tackle and look to draw contact and go down to try to draw the foul.

----- 3b.1- flap your arms in the air like an Icelandic Ryupa bird and then roll around clutching your face in agony even though the contact was on your shin.

Oscar's reply was obviously 3b, as is a great deal of players. With so much on the line, it seems the prevailing attitude for pros is to try to not risk NOT getting the call when a defender's foot get pus in like that. I can't say I"m a fan either- would much prefer every player to try to continue the play and let the ref call the foul if they're impeded- but I only made it to the semi-pros, where the money on the line was basically gas and beer money (yeah, probably 6 figures for Sebowski or Tasker), so I don't know about the pressures these guys face.

World Cup final...

Gotta say- no US, and this is only just a bit more than any other game for me... I really don't care who wins, but I hope enjoy watching it. The finals are usually such tense, joyless affairs with both teams doing their best not to lose.

Hard to say who is more excited today, me and my son for the final or my wife for this tournament to be finally over. Growler of Oso Coffee Night Train will see me through the day. As usual, hoping first and foremost for a good game but expecting a cautious affair. Of course the players and managers know well that no one will care or remember if the win is an ugly one. Putting that star on your country's shirt is all that matters today.

WTF man? If you are going to go that route, then go all the way. That sentence should have ended "the best side doesn't always win."

Tony Martin doing his part for team Germany today at the Tour de France. He's a time trialist, but has ridden away from the field on a hilly stage near the German border. Very impressive.

They take the idea of luck in a short form tournament and just flush it down the drain.

That is outrageous consistency especially when Europe is arguably the toughest to qualify from of all the regions.
