I'm not really a sucker for accents, but the more Scottish the better as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I misread the question originally as being how many the US would scoreThe US gave up 6 goals in 2006That's twice as many as in 20064. Total. How many goals are we going to let up this year? Could get ugly![]()
3-0 loss to Czech Republic

Mark it, dude.
Iran pleaseI'll try to do one or two previews tomorrow. Chime in with your preferences. Obviously, Spain and Brazil are options, but I fear I'll say what everyone else says (think Brazil will go as far as Neymar can take them, worry about Spain's strikers). Italy, Netherlands, and Belgium are also good choices. Maybe I'll try to do one of the up and coming South American teams like Chile, but my coverage is necessarily less complete outside my comfort zone.

Italy, please. Their roster is almost exclusively Serie A and I think it's tough to gauge players in that league.I'll try to do one or two previews tomorrow. Chime in with your preferences. How do you figure? 5 points would be a dream scenario for most of us.I fear that won't be enough to get through.USA-1 Ghana-0

If Germany and Portugal tied each other and both beat Ghana by more than a goal, we would not advance in this scenario. How do you figure? 5 points would be a dream scenario for most of us.I fear that won't be enough to get through.USA-1 Ghana-0

Hell, I think most of us would be happy with 4 points and roll the dice with a tie breaker.

This is how I had it playing out.Norman Paperman said:My official prediction remains that the US will advance out of this group.
I suspect though, that the US will play well, but not advance. I can see US beating Ghana, while Germany/Portugal draw. Then the US draws Portugal, while Germany beats Ghana. This puts it Germany 4, US 4, Portugal 2, and Ghana 0. That leaves the third game, where the US will almost need a win against Germany to advance - assuming Germany and Portugal both outscore the US v. Ghana.
I think the US really needs Germany to beat Portugal in the opening game, and the US will need 2-3 goals against Ghana.
While your prediction is mathematically possible to occur it is worth noting that in the history of the World Cup, exactly 0 groups have ended up with 3 teams on 5 points.Since 1994 (the first world cup with 3 points for a win) 0 out of 38 groups have ended with 3 teams on 5 points.I outlined it above:How do you figure? 5 points would be a dream scenario for most of us.Hell, I think most of us would be happy with 4 points and roll the dice with a tie breaker.I fear that won't be enough to get through.USA-1 Ghana-0

Game 1: US 1, Ghana 0; Germany 1, Portugal 1
Game 2: US 1, Portugal 1; Germany 2, Ghana 0
Game 3: US 0, Germany 0; Portugal 3, Ghana 1
Germany and Portugal advance on goal differential
I think we really need Germany to beat Portugal in game 1, but I think both will be happy for a draw in the first game.
I know that. What I am saying is that it has never happened even once in all the groups and all the years to have three teams on 5 points. It is beyond rare.If Germany and Portugal tied each other and both beat Ghana by more than a goal, we would not advance in this scenario. How do you figure? 5 points would be a dream scenario for most of us.Hell, I think most of us would be happy with 4 points and roll the dice with a tie breaker.I fear that won't be enough to get through.USA-1 Ghana-0USA-1 Portugal-1USA-0 Germany-0 Mark it, dude.
Timmy Chandler scares me in the back. I think he was channeling his inner Omar Gonzalez yesterday and realized the game was almost over and he hadn't made a totally brain dead mistake. You know things are bad when you are hoping Beasley gets the start.Yada yada yada about the announcers. Who gives a crap.

Willy WonkaAlso with his orangish hue he reminds me of an ompah loompah from the Wizard of Oz.

IMO, a healthy Rossi would be the best player on the current US roster.Tom Hagen said:I don't watch Serie A, how good is a healthy Rossi compared to the current U.S. roster. Is he comparable to Demspey or Bradley? Better?I absolutely love that Rossi didn't make the Italy team. I feel bad for the guy that he keeps getting injured, but I can't feel sorry for him. He chose Italy because they were the better team. Now he can't make that team. Its pretty great.
And yes, I realize that we're benefiting from quite a few duals at this point. But most of their situations are very different. Rossi's father voluntarily left Italy because the US offered more opportunities. The fathers of the German contingent (I believe all of them) were only there because they were serving our country. Bacon probably chose the US mostly because we're better, but at least he was born here.
I still don't understand how a guy named John Sutcliffe has the strongest accent of them all. (I replied to the wrong post with this one; should be about the Mexican-American announcers)I prefer an announcer who describes the action instead of just saying the name of each player as they gain possession, which is what Johnson seemingly does way too much.I'm somewhere in the middle. I recognize that many of the things that people dislike about Gus Johnson aren't noticed when Darkie does it because he has an English accent. But part of doing a broadcast is building a decent relationship with your color guy. Darkie had a great relationship with Macca, and a decent one with Taylor. I actually prefer that he doesn't describe the action as much, because I know who the guys are.
But he does too much NFL style storyline progression and some of his excited calls are grating (to me).

Seems?Mexico is running their friendlies very quickly. The play again tonight against Bosnia.
They are packing in 4 games in just 10 days. Seems like a recipe for injuries.
As much as we could have used him, I can't help but think this helps us longer term as guys realize making some of these Western European squads as an "outsider" isn't exactly easy. Sure gives Klinsmann some ammunition for 2018.
Didn't see your pot/kettle at the end there and was coming back to say the same thing. Cognitive Dissonance, FTW!
Dropped. Several were on both lists (stupid editor.) Fixed now.So was Volland dropped or kept? He's in both lists.
That's tough. There's no telling what Löw will do.Neuer - naturallySebowski said:How do you see the starting lineup looking, Mjo?
It should also be noted that they are the one team in their group that plays 3 matches in the Amazon/humid area (Manaus, Recife, Natal). They strike me as one team that will totally wilt by the 3rd match and their first match against England could be a total cluster in the 2nd half. The bottom line: It's a total gut feeling, but I don't see a great tournament for Italy this year.
