Sorry if this has has already been talked about or is just stupid (or both)
I'm assuming Germany would rather the US advance than Portugal, right?
And the US is just glad to advance, period.
If so, is there such a thing as US and Germany "agreeing" to a draw where they both advance?
I know it's not in the spirit of playing every game to the wire and trying to win. But neither is an NFL team pulling it's starters in Week 17 so they have a better shot at the playoffs.
If Germany thought they'd have a better shot at winning the Tournament with US in and Portugal out, is that a shark move to have a draw? Or just lame?

If the USA gets the World Cup anytime soon, which they should, Lambeau Field needs to be used. Forget Soldier Field. If Goodell wants the NFL to grow, you have to put it on the world stage and using as many NFL stadiums might do that a little. Lambeau Field would be the place to do it for sure.
On the other hand, imo, by the time the USA hosts another World Cup, soccer will be just as, if not, more popular than the NFL.

USA play Germany...if the USA advance it might well be because they beat Germany and Portugal/Ghana result could send either of those through

No. Germany has a huge GD lead. Even if the US wins, Ghana would have to make up something like 6 goals and Portugal would have to make up something like 9.

Not likely, but I was responding to the likelihood of the US advancing, which would mean Germany didn't get a good result.
The games are played at the same time, so everyone will be playing to advance.

I rewatched that play a dozen times, why was he being lazy with the ball initially, shouldn't he have immediately passed it to the teammate directly behind him as soon as he got the ball?

Julian Green was capped tied the minute his paperwork was approved. When you make a one time switch, you are capped tied whether you play or not.
It was Brooks who needed to be capped tied, which he was against Ghana.

I don't think it will happen now, but it has happened in the past and it did include Germany and Austria colluding to keep Algeria out back in 1982, of which people still hate.

It was, in part, due to this mess that FIFA finally decided to play the last games in the group stage simultaneously to lower the risk of collusion (although that would not help in the US Germany case).

If you say Bacon on the street it will take a long tie for someone to say Kevin Bacon. And ArLo will grow out of those looks. Bacon is a food product. It is a terrible nickname. I get that Ice is too generic and also taken, but I'll never feel good abut Bacon. I also love italics so that's a thing…By the fans? Off the top of my head

As I watched the choke job, only one thing popped into my mind. The US is to soccer what Vanderbilt is to football. They may play it close for awhile, or even win one every now and then, but in the end they always choke or get blown out when it's go time.

Ask any US soccer fan who Bacon is and almost 100% will know.
As an aside, the nickname did not come from US fans. It came from a reporter when he played in Denmark and it stuck with him ever since.

Like Vanderbilt, it has almost nothing to do with choking and almost everything to do with talent disparity.
It is shame how few casual fans can appreciate just how impressive the US performance was tonight but that is the nature of being a casual fan I guess.

Vanderbilt seems like a terrible comparison, unless they have one of the largest student populations to draw talent from, a huge athletic budget to spend on training and developing players, and a desire to grow into one of the elite teams.

Unfortunately I couldn't see the game live due to family commitments and I had to FFwd through it later.
While the final goal was a shocking disappointment, it was a great ball in and header. Have to give it up to Portugal there. But overall we are still doing well against expectations. Beat Ghana, tied Portugal.
It seems the key to advancing is to defend well against Germany. A tie gets us through, and even a loss by 1 gets us through in most cases. If we lose by more than 1, we need Portugal to tie or beat Ghana.

Wow, 20 pages to catch up on. That game was a gut punch. Its tough to articulate my thoughts while still drunk, but Bradley was disapointing and Jones was the MOTM prior to his goal. Disapointing result, but IBELEIVETHATWEWILLWIN
