Those people apparently are unfamiliar with smartphones.

Watching it on your work computer = n00b move
Really? Watching on a smartphone is better than watching on a 22" screen with a 30 Mbps connection? I will have to try that.
Yea if your boss is emailing you about it.
You're right. One of the times being the IT guy has it's benefits. :)
 our IT guy came into work with a captain America shirt on today. I started laughing.

The n00b move is watching on a smartphone vs figuring out a way to get out of work for few hours to watch in it in a sports bar while getting liquored up.

I was going to head to the bar at 10 and come back to the office at 3, but I'm pretty sure that I'm just going to "work from home" after the game instead.

I seriously can't believe that Mexico performance today. What a game. From a team that was a Graham Zusi stoppage-time goal away from not even qualifying for the inter-confederation playoff.

Jesus christ, where was this Mexico team during all of CONCACAF qualifying??
No joke. They were great in that game. Sadly for them they are playing the hottest team on the planet next.

I have heard from our staff that there is a very heavy load of internet traffic today. It appears that there are many staff watching the World Cup on internet TV. Please try to limit your internet usage for business purposes only. This traffic is impacting internet speeds that are slowing down our systems.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
:lmao:
Word from my IT guy is that our internet usage has gone up like 75% lately (I have avoided this and just DVR the day to watch at night). In fact we evidently had one guy call IT and complain that he couldn't connect due to slow internet. Our IT guy looked up what he was trying to access to assess and... he was trying to watch the WC. :lmao:

Chile needs a win here to (probably) avoid Brazil in their round of 16 matchup.
At this point, I think Brazil want to avoid Chile... ...
That would be a massive regional tilt, 'would be awesome to watch.
I hope it happens...should be a hell of a game and atmosphere.
Don't think it is possible but it would be an awesome match for Maracana in the quarterfinals
It's on.

6 teams have played in Manaus.

4 of those teams, England, Italy, Croatia and Cameroon all lost their next game.

The other two teams still to play are the US and Portugal.

Yikes that is awful.

I wonder if we could see a lot more changes in the US lineup than one normally would in this situation? The mix of the short turn around, long travel and possible extreme heat in the next game could make the lineup decisions very tricky.
Jones carrying a yellow too.

I'm just trying to imagine the US without Jones at this point. I'd rather not.

Trying to look on the bright side of this- if anyone can handle pressure matches and long travel in extreme climates in a short amount of time, it's the US. Thinking of going to San Pedro Sula or Azteca and then flying 3k miles to play another game three days later.

Apart from that I got nothin

The thing that the Germans also didn't have an easy game against Ghana. It obviously hot and they were burning up trying to chase the game. A boring 0-0 draw suits both teams here, but who knows what will happen, especially if they start Klose... That guy is deadly in international play.

Yellow cards carry over to the next game?

yes and noThey do not carry over in the sense that another yellow card would send Jones off, but the do accumulate, and two yellow cards before the quarter finals means that a player would be suspended for the following game.

So if Jones gets a yellow against Germany, he would not be able to play in the round of 16.

But he would remain in that game? And the slate is wiped clean in the next round if he doesn't get another one?

wow that suck. Was that slide tackle that bad? he got mostly ball IIRC, do they review these things and determine intent/type of infraction or is it just two yellow are two yellows and you're out?

It was a very weak yellow

They do not review yellows

Any 2 accumulated yellows and you sit. They clear after quarter finals I believe

BTW, I know that there's a lot of US fans that hate Mexico, but I love El Tri. The passion, the intensity that they play with at the World Cup is awesome to watch. And their coach, Herrera, has really turned that team around. When they play with confidence (even against Brazil they played with confidence) they are a great team. That was a clinic they put on Croatia yesterday. This is what I'm talking about (http://worldsoccertalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/miguel.gif)

Lots of their fans might be a-holes, but they love their squad and are vocal, passionate, and can motivate their team anywhere in the world. I'm glad they got 7 points out of that group, regardless of the benefit to CONCACAF (really this only benefits Jamaica, Honduras, El Salvador, etc.)

Considering the amount of tackles coming in WAY after/off the ball that didn't even register as fouls- that Jones got a yellow on THAT tackle is ridonculous. I mentioned it after the game- could be a massive, massive thing that comes out of that game, above and beyond giving up the win. (of course, if Ghana and Germany do us in, it's a non-issue).

eta: IMO, he got all/lots of ball- it wasn't even a foul.

I don't really have a beef with Mexico as a team. But **** Marquez in the ****hole.
Have to agree there, although he hasn't been the liability that I thought he'd be. That header yesterday was classic Márquez. Nonetheless, #### him in his ### with an agave.
He's been a huge asset all tournament. Herrerra's system really relies on his ability to distribute out of the back. And that's something he hasn't lost. I have no idea how Croatia lets him get that free for a header yesterday. He was able to take two walking steps into his jump!

While we are in some down time before the games, I just wanted to thank everyone who's been helping me learn the game. And also apologize to anyone who I am bothering with the questions.

Croatia has been on the decline for the past 14-16 months though, so it shouldn't be much of a shock. Yeah they have the midfield pairing and Mandzukic, but they just haven't meshed well recently. It's not like they were beating Spain or England

Croatia has a lot of talent. Not just great CMs. Perisic and Lovren are both very good players. Olic is probably past his born on date and likely did not recover very well from Manaus. Hard not to think that Joseph Gordon-Leavitt was a bit overwhelmed, though.

Was a bummer to watch him score yesterday. He's a disgrace. Am more than a little sorry no one ever repaid him for DeJonging Cobi in 2002.
I thought he repaid himself by getting a red... or was that on a different play.

One thing I've noticed about him this WC- he's playing with a TON of restraint (for him). He usually can't go 90 minutes without going :loco: at least once.

oh- speaking of De Jong... I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Marquez and De Jong decapitate eachother, finishing both their careers in one epic meltdown that they alone might consider a "tackle".

For whatever reason the talent just hasn't meshed well the past year. They don't get wide all that well (Srna is past his sell by date as well) which is needed for Mandzukic. My guess is after the Brazil game, they should have benched Olic and played a 4-5-1 to get that width and provide Mandzukic with more space.

For Sunday's game, they could replace the captain's coin flip with a XFL style scramble

Croatia was imply overmatched by Mexico in terms of energy and aggression. Guardado had a fantastic game IMO and Croatia didn't know how to handle him at all. Croatia have talent, and maybe it was a combo of age and not meshing well, but seeing Modric struggle against the Mexican midfield for space and pace wasn't good.
