It's hard to see a Barca transfer now. Not that they're complete idealists or anything, but I think they're too image-conscious as a club to bring on Suarez with something like this happening, again. And he's a luxury signing to begin with, it's not like they're hurting for firepower up front.

Marketing dream. Dress Messi like an angel and suarez like a devil.

He got 10 games for biting Ivanovic and clearly hasnt learned a thing. I'd imagine 5 games at least (which will roll over post-tournament) and possible 10-15 games just so FIFA can show that its not more leniant than UEFA.

Silly question: Are there any kind of scoreboards in these stadiums? Like do the crowds see any kind of clock like we see on TV? In every shot of the stadiums all I can see are Jumbotrons.

Honestly, what goes through his head there? I can't even imagine it.
Yeah, it doesn't really give a strategic advantage like a normal foul. Clearly he has issues.
The first time you do something that crazy, you barely get any benefit of the doubt from the public but maybe a small minority might understand you just lost it, once. But to do that a second/third time on one of the biggest stages in sports? You are right, he has to have something wrong up top.

Certainly looked like Chiellini's jersey was in his mouth
holy hell.

I just praised Suarez in the soccer thread because I thought he was over that bs. #### him.
That's got to hurt his transfer value
I looked at it from the other angle. I thought for sure he was staying. Now, I think he'll be leaving. There's no way Liverpool sits with him suspended again, if that happens. And they'll take an even worse beating in the press than last time. I think he's definitely leaving now.

Not sure what FIFA can do about EPL games. Think it's likely he gets a competitive international ban through the Copa America.

He's out of the tournament for sure.

Three times he has been caught actually biting someone on camera. Three times! What a ####### head case.

Liverpool might be able to get away with keeping him if they can't move him for anything good, but to go out and sign him -- isn't going to fly for a lot of teams IMO.

He is a different bird, and a target of the press for the things he allegedly. But the fans prefer Suarez as a football player.

No idea why you would ask if he should be kicked out of WC - you should not ask any more questions.

Could be three all-South American games in the Round of 16.

Brazil-Chile

Colombia-Uraguay

Argentina-Ecuador
Just noticed that the Brazil-Chile winner plays the next round against the Colombia-Uruguay winner*. So even if 6 South American teams get into the knockout round, only a maximum of 2 can make it to the final 4.

*I'm assuming Colombia wins the group, I know that it is theoretically possible for Ivory Coast to win it on goal differential, but it seems unlikely.

I hope I'm not trolling, and I grew up playing soccer with some absolute studs. And played high school with them. Like guys who scored in NCAA championship games against Reyna and such. This garbage is why I think soccer doesn't make any inroads into American culture. That game was entertaining as hell, but an absolute sporting joke. I'll still watch, and be into it, but can anyone give an honest sporting defense of the Italians and Suarez?
No?

There are a lot of bad guys in soccer.
True. Count mine as a...Hot. Sports. Take.
I don't think you were trolling at all.

I have no defense but I think it is misguided to say soccer will never catch on because of this.

First, soccer has already caught on. The notion that it does not exist outside of the WC is blatantly wrong in every way

Second, take a read some time of what American football player do to each other at the bottom of a fumble pile

There are bad guys and nuts in all sports. I don't think you need a run down of the criminals who have pulled on NFL jerseys over the years.
The bolded is very true. More and more city bars open early and cater to EPL and other fans. This was going on back even in the late 90's. The Lucky Bar in D.C. always opened early for EPL matches.

I actually do agree with all your comments. Mine was just an emotional reaction to the match, which I tend to do. I was seriously rooting for Uruguay, and then that happened. It's just that the bad boys of American sports are...well...American.

I know I'm being stupid so I'm laughing, but there's something cultural to it. Watching Italy flop all over the field today and then gesticulate vehemently was sickening, up until Suarez Tyson'ed that guy. I mean, Jesus.

Regardless, I'm watching this cup and watch EUFA championships when time allows.

Also, w/r/t to El Floppo's point before, having Liverpool on NESN and Chelsea on YES really does help soccer spread in the Northeast.

Tyson bit Holyfield a few times and much worse, but it was during a fight. He was getting his ### kicked. Saurez bite is for nothing. He's playing soccer, not getting punched in the head repeatedly.

Teams should put things in the contracts that say something like, "if you repeatedly bite people, you owe us money back to make up for the loss in value."
