Liverpool might be able to get away with keeping him if they can't move him for anything good, but to go out and sign him -- isn't going to fly for a lot of teams IMO.
Agreed. I think Liverpool has to hold him at this point. His value has gone back up after multiple bites in the past. If he plays like he did last season it will again.

Has anyone's value swung so much over a week spam? Knee surgery, dominates England, bites a guy for third time. Quite a run.

No matter what happens in later games, the US will now finish ahead of Italy, Spain, England, Croatia, Cameroon, Australia, Bosnia and at least one of Portugal/Ghana.

You guys are chatty... Just caught up on the 60+ pages I was behind.

I was watching England, I guess I need to check what happened with Suarez... :oldunsure:

BTW how the hell does that linesman not see Suarez do that. At a minimum it would have been a head-butt. Chellini was the last man so he should have had a good view of it, especially at that angle.

"I did not see the bite, but I saw the bite marks on Chiellini"

Also - the head of the Italian Football federation is on the dais, and he is resigning also - but that had been planned in advance.

Neutral observer. Italy got flat out rolled.

Questionable red card.

How does the league keep this piece of **** biter in the league/tournament? Totally ignore the tape and the previous chomp downs?

Sounds like a lot of political back-biting - no pun intended ( ) back in Italy over the national team, which has led to the resignations as much as the results.

He plays in the EPL where he was recently suspended for this ludicrous act.

But this is a FIFA run event. We are not sure they can suspend him from league play. But now that the pictures of the bite marks are out he has to be suspended for the rest of the tournament, imo.

Fifa will obviously wait for all the bribes to come in first before making their decision.

Anything you put in my mouth you're gonna lose.

Naw, you don't understand. You do that and I'll put all eight inches of steel in your ear.

All right. But you should know that sudden serious brain injury causes the victim to bite down hard. In fact, I hear the bite reflex is so strong they have to pry the victims jaws open with a crowbar.

I still am shuked at people questioning this being a red.
I watched in real-time, it looked like he was trying to simply execute a spin move, he wasn't going in on the Uruguayan player, so I don't equate it to a dangerous tackle with the studs up - they did get caught up, but it was not a typical collision where injury was likely to happen - so I think in that case, a red is a bit harsh.

I can see how the ref might have looked at it like he was stomping the Uruguayan player, but I just don't see that from the entirety of the play.

Here's the thing. Does FIFA have a mechanism for reviewing an in-game incident and issuing a suspension for it when the referee doesn't see it? I have no idea. I know they were able to suspend that goofy Croat guy for doing Nazi salutes after the Iceland playoff, but I'm not sure there's a process to handle in-game stuff that wasn't seen or carded.

And if that's true, I'm not sure FIFA can just institute one. Uruguay would cause a huge stink.

I agree with what you're saying- but given the view the ref had... easy red.

Just for the shtick/#HST value of it all, it'd be great if he's allowed to keep playing.

You're being way too kind here. Horrible horrible call.

I am pretty certain FIFA can suspend here, if it believes the evidence of the bite.

The interesting thing may be that FIFA won't do anything unless someone initiates a request for a review, and I don't think the Italians will do so.

Now, the media spotlight might become so intense, they feel compelled to act - but these are people who are not easily swayed by public opinion.

"horrible" call?

I am terrible at the internet- can somebody post some links of this play so I can eat my words here.

Yeah, it was harsh, but from the ref's angle it looked like the Italian was following through on a tackle, studs up, above the ball on a planted leg. If the ref was at any other angle it's probably not even a yellow.

Try this

I think it's a fairly debatable call. I don't know if there was an intent to stud the guy in the shin. That's what he did, though. I've certainly seen it given before, and if it looked like a deliberate stab/stomp to the ref, then it's an easy call.
