Because goals are hard to get so it happens a lot, and rather than make ~30% of the games have a totally random result (like the NHL) they've decided to just let them stand.Why are there ties in soccer? Was there ever a time when ties didn't happen and there was overtime/sudden death?
In the knockout stages all games will have a winner -- either via extra time or penalty kicks.
MLS had NHL-style shootouts at the end of ties early in the league's history.
