Why are there ties in soccer? Was there ever a time when ties didn't happen and there was overtime/sudden death?
Because goals are hard to get so it happens a lot, and rather than make ~30% of the games have a totally random result (like the NHL) they've decided to just let them stand.

In the knockout stages all games will have a winner -- either via extra time or penalty kicks.

MLS had NHL-style shootouts at the end of ties early in the league's history.

I see no reason to not continue playing the way we've been playing. We made a few chances and the defense has been great.
As a noob, it seems like Gonazalez is an improvement over Cameron.
You're right - today he has been. Gonzo is a mistake waiting to happen though. But Cameron was playing out of position so it kind of equals itself out.

I don't really get the Brooks is Besler's backup and Omar is Cameron's. It's almost always play your best CB. Since JK said it I wasn't surprised but I still find it odd.

Most likely scenerios that knock us out, assuming no other scores:

1. Germany scores 1 goal, Ghana scores 2 goals

2. Germany scores 2 goals, Portugal scores 2 mores goals

3. Germany scores 1 goal, Portugal scores 3 more goals.
