So was Germany playing a normal game? Or were they playing half throttle? Kind of looked like they weren't really trying too hard on some plays. But as a noob, that just may be me not understanding the game.
Some of their enthusiasm was dampened by us kicking the crap out of them.

I picked Argentina to win it all - have to admit I'm liking their draw. Belgium and Netherlands seem to be the conventional picks to face them after Switzerland. That's not that tough of a path to the final.

So how many shots on goal did the US team have? Other than the last minute or two, I didn't see any, although I didn't watch much of the game.

btw... safe to say that Donovan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Brad Davis

Really the only foot Klinsmann's put wrong in the last month.

Tim Howard:

"Germany is one of the best teams in the world. They have a chance to win the whole tournament."

Now we gotta try and gin up some hate for Belgium - a country that's like the chameleon of Europe. If it ain't waffles you probably don't think about Belgium much.

one of few places that has better beer and fries than the US.

Group H scenarios:

Belgium are through and win the group with

1) a win or tie

or 2) an Algeria loss or tie

Algeria are through with

1) a win (they win the group with a win and a Belgium loss)

or 2) a tie and a South Korea tie or loss

or 3) a tie and a South Korea win by exactly 1 or 2

or 4) a tie and a South Korea win by exactly 3 South Korea fails to score at least 3 more goals than Algeria

Algeria are out with a loss

Russia are through with

1) a win and a South Korea tie or loss

or 2) a win and a South Korea win and South Korea's margin of victory is the same or less than Russia's margin of victory

or 3) a win and a South Korea win and South Korea's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than Russia's margin of victory and Russia outscores South Korea by at least 3 goals

or 4) a win and a South Korea win and South Korea's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than Russia's margin of victory and Russia outscores South Korea by exactly 2 goals and Russia wins the drawing of lots

Russia is out with a tie or loss

South Korea are through with

1) a win by 4 and an Algerian tie

or 2) a win by 3 and an Algerian tie and South Korea outscores Algeria by at least 3 goals

or 3) a win and a Russian win and South Korea's margin of victory is at least 2 more than Russia's margin of victory

or 4) a win and a Russian win and South Korea's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than Russia's margin of victory and Russia fails to outscore South Korea by more than 1 goal

or 5) a win and a Russian win and South Korea's margin of victory is exactly 1 more than Russia's margin of victory and Russia outscores South Korea by exactly 2 goals and South Korea wins the drawing of lots.

South Korea is out with a loss or tie and by the looks of things at worst they have to win by 2 goals in any scenario and in most cases they need to win by 3 just to have a chance.

French Fries are actually Belgian. (They came from the French part of Belgium.)

Can we petition Obama to fire Klinsmann?
I am feeling a quarter-final run imo
:goodposting:
Brad. Davis.

I'm really glad that the US advanced, and I think they can get to the quarters in spite of him, but I don't think he brings much to the table himself.
Yedlin is getting more done in his tiny minutes than the other wing halfs are (not including Zusi) with a ton of minutes.
I'm sure Yedlin could do the same for 80min instead of coming on fresh for 10min then, right?
no idea. I was just stating an observation.

I thought they played hard. They straight up dominated us. Once they realized we really weren't going to get too risky and that we were essentially conceding 1st in the group, they went all out. Especially with Klose coming in and wanting to get the goal total lead.
IMO Germany played hard for the first 70 minutes, then they backed off a bit.

Soccer is weird. You're saying we kicked the crap out of them in a 1-0 loss?
No, we literally kicked the crap out of them.

Have to win Tuesday to make me feel good about backing in today
@celebrityhottub: Why are we celebrating a loss? = I dont understand anything other than a single-elimination format please dont cut school funding more"

:bye:
I hate the term "backing in" for any sport.

You are given an equal amount of games and should be judged over the course of those games.

The only time the word "back in" should be used is if one team got lucky with some sort of strange forfeit situation.

Lahm's recovery run that late in the game was incredible effort that eliminated a clear look on goal for Bedoya.

Right. Had we lost to Germany first, tied Portugal then beat Ghana would that be "backing in?"

What time is the game Tuesday?
4PM ET most likely vs Belgium.

HOw do we match up vs Belgium compared to algeria?
They beat us 4-2 in a friendly earlier. Not as good as Germany but plenty of talent playing in the best leagues. USA won't be favorites but has a shooters chance.
Belgium was considered a dark horse to go far. I think it will be a good test for the US and I do think we have a chance to win. Probably the best matchup for us to get of all the group winners

I mean seriously. Did you guys watch this game?

Even my wife said "damn Germany cares too much".

I have Belgium at 13-1 to win it all, so that bodes VERY well for the USA.

As soon as you round-robin it, introduce GD, GF, and HTH, you're not backing into anything. It becomes a 270 minute tourney against all the same competition, IMO.

Still very happy.

I'm still not stunned, but saddened, over Ghana's flight of three million bucks into their players. Sounds like Foer's book, which I read a long time ago, and now forget.

I'm still a more than a little shocked that we a) played so well and b) advanced from that group. We had the literally the worst draw in terms of opponents and travel (2nd worst was Costa Rica which shows you how well CONCACAF has done this tourney), yet played some of the best soccer the US has ever played.

Well done players, coaches, and management.
