I was hoping for some Belgium red cards but I'm not sure Defour is the guy we want to miss. They are pretty deep though so I'm not sure who would be the best person to hope that's missing - I guess Hazard but he's not even playing.

Besler pretty easily as MVP thus far for me.

Over Jones? He's been solid but Jones has done more IMO.

Love Jones' effort but he has not passed the ball well. Besler has played mistake-free for 5 halves.

Goal against Portugal and his total effort all over the pitch give the nod to Jones IMO

I think so - ref made a good call. It amazes me how they get a lot of those right. In real-time it looked harmless.

I think they are all crap Reds imo. Straight red is such a harsh penalty, it should be reserved for truly violent behavior - not lazy tackles.

The degree of difficulty on the own goal on Ghana was extraordinary. I don't remember seeing something similar. .

It would have been interesting for the U.S. to have hung on to the Portugal match. It would have made Germany attack much more and maybe given us a better chance at a counter. Obviously it doesn't matter now and Germany mostly dominated us but I would love to have seen us hold that lead.

Very interesting potential scenario.

If South Korea scores twice you'll have a situation where both Russia and Algeria would be out if the game was still 1-0 Russia.

A Russian goal would given Russia the 2nd spot.

An Algerian goal would give Algeria the 2nd spot.

So if South Korea can take advantage of this edge you could see some wide-open play in the other game.

Besler has been extremely solid for 2.5 games

Jones was fantastic in his first two, and just kind of average today

DMB has been solid from the moment Atsu got subbed

Beckerman has been very solid for 3 games with today arguably his best

Jones, even with a slightly off day today he was everywhere

Jones is US's best player so far.

In their previous 9 world cup games, there were a total of 11 scores between teams in games involving the Swiss. There was a total of 2 in their 3 World Cup games in 2010.
