***Official 2014 World Cup Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I can't get over the fact that the Brazilian goalie plays in MLS. That would be like if one of our Olympic basketball starters played in Greece or something.
MLS has zero to be ashamed of.

Cahil scored either the best or second best goal of the tournament

Costa Rica's best defender plays in MLS

David Villa (NY signing) was one of the few who looked alive for Spain

The US does not come close to advancing with out the MLS players

Arguably the best US player so far is in negotiations with the league

I am guessing the people who run the league are pretty damn happy right now over all. It could have been a nightmare and it turned out to be almost the exact opposite.

I don't think the shootout needs to be fixed. I would like to see the penalty kick changed though, but more for its effects during regular play. A foul in the box turning into an 80% scoring opportunity is pretty harsh. If moving the spot back, doing it hockey style or something else could make it more of a 50/50 chance, I'd be all for that.

I say they allow an extra sub in overtime BUT that sub has to play while wearing his nation's traditional costume...giant sombrero, ten-gallon hat and boots, lederhosen etc.

Cool to see Chile players surround Jara at the end there to console him. I can't even imagine.
And it was genuine too. Was really pulling for them there at the end. Two brutal woodworks to end their World Cup and keep them from pulling off a stunning upset.

After watching that, I can't imagine any team is going to be worried to face Brazil. Doesn't mean they can't keep winning, but they certainly aren't an intimidating play, even at home.

Has the yellow card situation been like this in world cups past? I thought they reset after the group stage, but this time they are not resetting until after the quarters (is that right?). Some of these teams could be really hurting in the next stages...

Odds Uruguay, historically one of the dirtiest big teams in the world, turn this into a defiant hackfest and get someone sent off?

I like this idea. Italian players have to wear a finely tailored suit. French players have to paint their faces like mimes and are required to carry baguettes.

I thought the same thing. Seems silly to have players missing the quarterfinals on 2 accumulated yellows through 4 games.

Been that way with the last WC - idea is to not have any players miss the Final.

Colombian players have to carry half a kilo of cocaine in their vags.

Colombia can only sub on Sofia Vergara.

Russians have to wear babushkas and are only allowed to drink vodka or borscht instead of water or Gatorade.
