***Official 2014 World Cup Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I ####### hate the way NBA games take 30 minutes to play the last two.

So get this...I don't watch the NBA.

I also don't go to the NBA thread and ##### about how long it takes to play the end of a game.
What's your point?
I think it was pretty clear.
So we are borrowing the whole "Love it or leave it" schtick from the Conservatives now?
No. We are hoping people will act in this thread like they would other sports threads.

I don't go into baseball threads and point out the 65,000 things wrong with that sport.

There's an irony to Neymar being the one to get hurt after Brazil kicked the hell out of James all day with no consequences. Neymar had a few fouls taken too, and he made the most of them, but nothing that compares to Paulinho on James.

IMO textbook case of the ref not doing his job, leading to fighting, red cards and injury. MLS refs used to be especially bad about this.

Nothing different about this thread and the other sports other than the apologists refuse to see the blatantly obvious.

Doctor on SportsCenter says the Neymar injury will take 6 weeks to heal, then rehab. Imagine he can't do all that much during that 6 weeks. Hope he's back in action by Fall.

Maybe we should see what happens if all the soccer folks go to the NBA thread and start pointing out all the things we don't like?

Nah...it's common sense and common courtesy not to do stuff like that.

(And the mods wouldn't put up with it in the NBA thread.)

I think La liga starts August 15th/16th which is six weeks from today. So he'll miss the first few games at least it seems

The regs in the NBA thread complain about the flopping, lengthy end game etc. all the time.

I can't stand it in any sport... Difference in Soccer is the impact that a single point has, relative to other sports where often refs find ways to even out poor calls over the remainder of a game. In Soccer, if you manipulate a free kick or penalty shot and score, then you very likely robbed an outcome with a single act. The fact these guys are trying to do this constantly, and it's more or less accepted, really stands out.Why not call these guys out post game and fine them? You had to have seen the Brazilian player yesterday that went down holding his face when the replay clearly showed he wasn't hit there. Why doesn't that guy have any consequences?

Happy to be able to cheer for Belgium again. Hazard owns Zabaleta today and the Argy midgets get a beat down from the Belgian giants. I don't care much for the Dutch team, but can't stand the Ticos, would enjoy a blowout in that one. Two good games, please.

Exaggerating the conflict to gain favor. Gee, I wonder where he learned that behavior.

Absolute BS.

Every soccer fan stipulates the issue. We don't need to continue to state 2+2 = 4. Soccer fans tend to better understand the difference between diving and embellishment that the complainers refuse to acknowledge.

Please show me a baseball thread that has non stop complaining about how slow the game is or how long every pitch take or how every batter has to take an eternity to set himself up for every pitch or how many friggan times trips to the mound can be made.

You can't. You know why? Because the fans stipulate the known issues in baseball and other people are intelligent enough to not thread crap on items that are blatantly obvious to everyone else while pretending that they some how discovered the cure for cancer.

This makes no sense. Look, so we can hopefully cut this out:

1) Non-soccer fans hate diving in soccer.

2) Soccer fans hate diving in soccer.

The difference is that non-soccer fans often claim that the diving makes the sport unwatchable. If that's the case, then don't watch.

Soccer fans aren't arguing that the diving is ok. It's not. It sucks. But it doesn't make it unwatchable for us. And, for right now, it's not going away and there's nothing we can do about it. Can there be rule changes to fix it? Absolutely. But that goes for lots of other things.

No sport is perfect. As mentioned already, the end of basketball games have gotten out of control with the timeouts. Those that like basketball probably similarly don't like it but they accept it. I, on the other hand, have gotten so turned off by it that I just don't watch. I don't claim that basketball fans like it. I just accept that's how it is and choose not to watch.

Similarly, I'm a huge football fan yet there are things that I can't stand about it. Big pass interference penalties and the lack of replay regarding them is a big deal to me. Those penalties can completely affect the outcome of a game (much like a dive in soccer). Yet, despite that, I still enjoy football and don't let it interfere with my enjoyment of the game.

Those who come here that watch soccer once every 4 year (that used to be me recently, fwiw), and complain how the diving sucks just gets old and tiresome. And the reason the backlash is there from those of us who watch is that WE KNOW IT SUCKS TOO. It's nothing new. We're not apologizing for the diving. It's just that it's just one of those things that, while we'd all wish it changed, is just there and you either live with it or you don't watch. We choose to watch.

I suggest you don't if it bothers you that much. I also suggest you and others stop coming in and crapping in a thread over and over about the same thing as if those of us that follow it have no idea and like it how it is.

if you search the soccer thread you will find that suggestion comes up probably over 1000 times easy.

Every soccer fan agrees with this but there is nothing we can do and continually pointing it out non stop every post is beyond useless.

Make the point once or even better if you see the point has been 500 times previously assume that people get the point.

The fact he is hurt doesn't absolve him from the fact that he was blatantly trying to manipulate the ref.
Out of curiosity,

Do you frequent the NBA thread and complain every time shooter fakes getting fouled as trying to blatantly manipulate the ref?

Do you frequent the NFL threads and complain every time a player fakes an injury to manipulate the refs?

Do you frequent the NHL threads and complain every time a player dives to manipulate the refs?
I noticed you did not answer this. My guess is that you do not thread crap there so why the urge to do it here? I just don't get it.

If you hate the sport, stop watching.

If you like the sport, enjoy it.

If you like a sport but think the sport has problems and see that a specific point has been made over and over and over and over and over again 7000 times already, don't add to it.

You realize that this whole discussion evolved from Rud's comment that there wasn't any flopping last night right? It was a complaint about A GAME, not THE GAME. No need to send the bat signal up and make the same tired arguments, I don't need convincing.

Belgium is the size of Maryland
Uruguay is tiny as well as is Holland

China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangldesh are 5 of the 8 most populated countries in the world and they produce almost no talent.

There is very little correlation between population size and ability to produce world class soccer players.

You're as much as part of the problem as Ham is. You don't accept differences in opinion about soccer as differences in opinion. The opposite side of you is flawed due to a lack of intelligence or a lack of sophistication preventing them from truly understanding and appreciating the beauty of the beautiful game. So conflicts escalate faster and last longer than they do when similar complaints arise in threads discussing other sports.

You realize that this whole discussion evolved from Rud's comment that there wasn't any flopping last night right? It was a complaint about A GAME, not THE GAME. No need to send the bat signal up and make the same tired arguments, I don't need convincing.
Then it's like arguing over if a movie is funny or not, it's pointless.

people see things differently.

so you take one posters observation and assign it to all soccer fans as assuming they think the same and that makes sense to you? WTF?

Apologize for posting in a thread I hadn't read... I can see how annoying it is if the same point has been made ad naseum.

I do consistently hate every form of unfair advantage and cheating in every sport. I don't think it's honorable to win that way - and I tend to call it out even when done by my teams. I am far less a Pats fan than I was because of various scandals and the fact Manny and probably Poppy we're juicing in 2004 took luster off of that era for me.

I watch far less NBA and NFL than I used to because of antics, egos, etc. I look at a sport like Rugby and see real men who are stoic, focused and have honor engrained in their sport. Wish you'd see it more elsewhere, an I think it has to be institutionally encouraged.

I see the WC (perhaps wrongly) as a referendum on the sport every 4 years. To its credit, it has gotten much better since 1994, when I started watching. Yesterday was a reminder of what I don't like and I think has improved markedly. Just wish they'd turn those last screws.

My overall view on sports has changed a ton over the past few years anyway. I see them less as epic stories of heroics and fate, and more as battles of statisics. When a human being does rise about the expected probabilities with determination and will, it is inspiring and makes sports special. Likewise, when someone tries to sneak an unfair edge it feels like it negates from what sports should represent.

It is not a difference in opinion if I agree with him. Are you even reading the thread?

I fully accept complaints about embellishment and diving. I have made them myself in the soccer thread.

I agree that I don't accept seeing the same point made non stop over and over again which accomplishes nothing but to screw up a thread.

I have no idea. You are the one that mentioned the one poster, not me.

I frequent the soccer threads pretty heavily and know for a fact that the fans hate diving and embellishment.

That you keep pretending to ignore that simple fact when a ton of people keep telling you the exact same thing means that you are being nothing but a troll at this point.

But if that is how you enjoy posting, have it. I find it slightly disgusting and won't bother engaging you any more.

lol....you and others take my observation about a game and make about the entire sport. An observation that you, a veteran fan of the sport, have made numerous time yourself in the soccer thread, yet I am the troll. You engaging me (and others) with your generalizations is mucking up the thread more than anything else, so by all means, stop engaging me.
