****Official 2015 Chicago Bears Offseason Thread **** (2 Viewers)

No idea what for, but just heard on 670 that Jay Glazer is reporting the Bears just traded Jared Allen to the Panthers.

Considering we aren't winning this year, and were going to cut him next year, I'll take it.

Brad Biggs says for conditional draft pick.

Allen is in decline, no doubt but he is absolutely in the wrong system. He needs his hand in the dirt to be effective. I don't think he would have done well in this system even in his prime.

Glazer now saying for a 6th round pick.

The dismantling really begins. We're in for a historically bad season fellas. Like 1-15 or 2-14 bad.

You should set your target higher than that... 0-16. This team is terrible. If they don't end up with the 1st overall pick it's a tragedy.

I'm thinking John Fox is good for at least a win or two.
still don't think this is an outrageously bad team, certainly not the worst in the league. No one expected the Bears to win any of these first 3 games before the season started, and now that they are 0-3 everyone is freaking out like this wasn't expected. Can still see 5-6 wins this season.

Spoke with Ken Harris, Jared Allens agent. Trade began with Allen sitting with #Bears GM Ryan Pace & discussing mutually beneficial option

From Twitter. Gotta respect Pace for that. I don't really feel anything one way or another about the move. Pace is slowly getting rid of the Emery mess. Gonna take time. It was worse than we thought

Without Cutler, they're definitely the worst team in the league. They're a terrible team. Either way, you're correct. They were going to be 0-3 no matter what anyway.

Agree, with Cutler we still have a good chance to win against Washington and the Bucs with a decent shot at the Lions and 49ers.

Since nobody asked, here's my prediction.

Central Time!!!

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 13, Green Bay, noon - Loss 31-13 (chalk)

Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 20, Arizona, noon - Win 19-17 (See this as being more of a defensive battle, with Forte running the ball a lot. Fans still have hope for a decent season)

Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 27, at Seattle, 3:25 p.m.- Loss 35-10 (chalk)

Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 4, Oakland, noon - Win 21-13 (it's the Raiders)

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 11, at Kansas City, noon - Loss 22-21 (Bears lose to by a field goal in the last 2 minutes, Culter has a chance to get in FG position, but throws a game ending INT)

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 18, at Detroit, noon - Loss 24-10 (Cutler throws 4 INT's and everyone starts asking "will Clausen get the start after the bye?")

Week 7: BYE

Week 8: Sunday, Nov. 1, Minnesota, noon. - Win 24-21 in OT (Cutler starts slow, but puts together a descent 2nd half)

Week 9: Monday, Nov. 9, at San Diego, 7:30 p.m. - Loss 27-10 (Cutler rides previous weeks high into a turnover fest in SD. While Mariota runs on the Bears D-fense for 75 yards and 2 TD's

Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 15, at St. Louis, noon - Loss 17-10

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 22, Denver, noon - Loss 24-13 Fox loses to his old team, who is QB'd by Osweiler.

Week 12: Thursday, Nov. 26, at Green Bay, 7:30 p.m. - Loss 55-13 (Bears eat a large Turkey dinner right before game. Not only does Cutler look indifferent to the loss, he's seen napping on the bench due to tryptophan overdose)

Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 6, San Francisco, noon - Win - 12-9 (battle of the FG kickers. Both teams are making off season vacation plans and are just going through the motions. But Gould, is gold)

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 13, Washington, noon - Loss - 24-10 (Jimmy makes his first start of the year)

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 20, at Minnesota, noon - Loss 28 -13 (Vikings are making a play for final wildcard spot, Bears don't care to be the spoilers)

Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 27, at Tampa Bay, noon - Win 17-14 (Bears come to play in Tampa. In hopes Lovie will sign them to a warmer climate next off season)

Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 3, Detroit, noon - Loss 23 -10 (Bears lock up the #4 overall pick in the 2016 Draft)

looks like 16-0 to me boys
5-11 it is.
Five wins? I wish. :kicksrock:

Never seen a fire sale during the season in football. Weird.

I think I saw more moves to be made with players that don't fit the D.

A sixth for Allen was nice, but only a sixth for Bostic? Talk about selling low for a 2013 2nd round pick. Guess he must be damaged goods, aside from being a poor fit in Fangio's D. He needs to be a WLB in a 4-3.

Bostic is actually a decent player. Just way out of position in the new scheme.

I not sure what he's going to do in NE, exactly. I'd trust they will find a way to take advantage of his skills, though.

I like Pace's draft. It is unfortunate that White got hurt so we can't see what he is yet. The staff is excited about Grasu and Amos. Goldman has shown a little. McPhee was a good signing. Royal was a really stupid signing. They paid too much money for him and he has done nothing.

Allen should have been traded before the season. You might have gotten more for him then. We all saw that many of these players didn't fit this scheme. If Pace did this to accommodate Allen, then that is probably good. But you paid out $11.5 million in a bonus and got nothing in return. It worries me that the Patriots wanted Bostic. The Patriots are a lot smarter than the Bears. So it is likely that the only linebacker on the team that will still be on the team in two years is McPhee. The rest suck. Houston will be gone. Young will be gone. You are stripping down the defense and starting over. But you better hit on the draft picks or this defense will be just as bad in two years as it is now. Bill Parcels would do this with defense. He would rebuild his teams in to a 3-4. It would take two or three years. But Parcels was really good at finding the pieces to make his defense work. The Bears are taking a big chance that Pace can do the same.

I was very excited about this coaching staff. I thought they really assembled a professional, solid coaching staff. I would have to say that I am really disappointed so far. I think the special teams coach should be fired. You give up kick off returns on successive weeks, you get fired. The decision to wait until the week before the season to switch Long to tackle hurt Long, and the team. If this coaching staff is good, the team will get better as the season progresses. But so far I have seen nothing to indicate that will happen.

Have not hit rock bottom yet but it is coming. It will get worse for at least two more seasons and I only post this because the draft record is a joke. Phillips needs to be fired ASAP. With the rebuild in full tilt this clown needs to go NOW! It is absolutely PAINFUL to sit here and watch the Packers excel and the Bears are the dung heap of the NFL.

This is a tale of two polarizing organizations. Everything the Packers do is efficient and value driven. They have amazing drafts. They have a great stadium. They have an awesome field. They have franchise QBs that win. They have executives and coaches that produce consistently. If they choose to sign a free agent - they get production. They sign undrafted players that produce. They are easily primed to go to the NFC championship and look to be unstoppable at home. They win. They have fun and have been doing this for a good 20 years.

The Bears are the complete opposite. A waste of time to rehash the shortcomings but this team needs someone ANYONE WITH A LICK OF SENSE that has the ability to recognize a franchise QB that will be productive for years and years to come. A QB that has all the qualities required to be a professional on and off the field. A QB that understands how to read defenses. A QB that has a laser for an arm. A QB that can run and make plays happen. A QB that can be developed by embracing mentors and coaches that are competent enough to DEVELOP.

I don't know what the long term damage is to White. This could be YET another spoiled draft pick. This is a tough one to swallow. This organization needs to learn how to draft talented players that fit a system that the entire organization is committed to. This has to be a long term plan with the right people in every role. The Bears are desperate for an A+ draft class. I keep hearing a lot about how they have so many holes. They need to draft and fill in their lines. Make them the best lines in the NFL. Start with the OL with the goal of having at least 2 or 3 all pro OL men withing two years. You draft an all world QB you NEED to protect him. Isn't this the game plan for the Patriots and the Packers?

They are going to blow chunks for a while so build this thing deep one unit at a time.

And for goodness sakes GET OFF THE FREE AGENT TURNSTYLE! The more free agents you sign the more you LOSE!

I'm not as down on them as some. They're pathetic and horrible but not unexpected after what happened the last couple years. It's going to be a while but they appear to be making as many changes as they can so far.

All they can do is make changes but fans want to see a strategic plan that will be followed to the T. Fans are tired of throwing mediocrity at gaps which cost draft picks and salary cap hits. Winning drafts translate into conference championships and Super Bowl wins. The Bear's plan has turned into being the laughing stock of the league. Tarred and feathered. Pie in the face at every turn.

This organization's long term strategic plan is to rake in as much money as possible by feeding off their "great" tradition. The tradition for the last 30 years has been a 1-1 record in the Super Bowl and a whole lot of steaming dung. A winning team is a "nice to have" but not necessary as long as the cash flows in from the networks, fan base and merchandising deals.

While change is great it has been nothing but change. What makes this particular change cycle any different that changes in the Jauron, Lovie, Trestman eras? A new GM that has it figured out? His first round pick has a plate in his tibia without ever seeing pre-season. They are now selling off anything they can to get picks. They probably should have traded down this year and moved Forte to Dallas to get even more picks. After reviewing the schedule - they were doomed to fall in their first three games and look like a good bet to lose every division game. Teams are going to rape this team and it will be a complete rebuild that will take years. Rotoworld is reporting that the Bears are willing to trade Forte as he is approaching 30. I am telling you that they have not even smelled rock bottom.

They need to get rid of that bum Phillips now. To have any chance they have to root out everyone that has been a part of the free fall. Unfortunately, the fans will never see the moronic family go anywhere with the fat gravy train they have. A big part of this change is DO NOT GO TO THE GAMES and TURN THEM OFF. See how fast the Cubs turned their gravy train into a winning long term strategic plan after the fans said ummmm no thanks and stopped going to the games.

I'm just as pissed off, PM. It's an embarrassment that the Bears have sucked for most of my life. I will never have faith in the team until they show me something.

I'm not on the on board with trading away Forte or Alshon, just like I wasn't ok with cutting Jennings. Dumb ### move. Those are 2 of the few good players we have left. We need to keep them. We would literally have none of our own guys left to sign except Long.

So much wrong here.

1) Well, yes, they Bears are in business to make money. As is every team in the league. You're implying that the Bears arent willing to spend money to win, which is patently ridiculous. The Bears are 19th in cap spending even with this garbage roster.

2)Ted Phillips has NOTHING to do with football operations. He doesnt give input in the draft, isnt approached about contracts. He's a book keeper.

3)This team sucks because theyve had general managers making bad draft picks for the last 10 years. And yes, thats an indictment against the team. But if that didnt bother them, why would they have cleaned house and hired a highly sought after new GM and Head coach?

They may have to face the prospect of trading Forte away. Sell now and get picks in return. The big question you have to ask is - can you trust the current regime to harvest value with the potential picks that they intend to stockpile? Can this regime actually draft a 6th rounder that brings immediate value to the team? In looking at the draft issues, it appears that the only "chance" for a value add was with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd. After that, it was just a crap shoot. We have had these discussions in the past but they are worth reviewing.

Identify gaps - incompetent personnel within the organization - Phillips, lack of a true on field and off field leader

Missed opportunities - consistent failure in the drafts, pulling in free agents that do not perform to an optimal level

Sub-optimal strategic plan - weak links, lack of buy in from the e-suite and players that lack capability to function within the offense and/or defense models

Can you name an off field leader for this organization? One that you would put 100% faith in?

Can you name an on field leader for this organization? A player that you would put 100% faith in?

Winning teams have clear cut leaders and long term strategic plans that are optimized and supported by everyone from the CEO to the punter to the peanut vendors.

Again- look at New England and the Packers success.

New England keeps reloading. They just reloaded their OL within the last season or two. They keep stock piling draft picks. They have a franchise QB that is going to the HOF and has hoisted multiple Lombardi trophies. They have leaders in three key phases of the organization - CEO, HC and QB. Do you think that anyone on this team has the sack to question Brady? Look at who we have?

The Packers keep reloading as well. If you watched the KC game you were presented with a great synopsis of how and why this organization has excelled in the last 20 years. They draft like rock stars. The value they get from their draft picks is incredible. They have crafted a winning formula that starts with complete buy in from the fan base to the e-suite and everyone in between. Everyone is a stakeholder that has consideration. The town owns the team and the team is a fabric interwoven into the town. When others question their drafts, they get immediate production. They lose a top flight WR - no problem. They plug in the next guy in line and they keep scoring. They score TDs. They finish drives. They put fun into football and as a Bear's fan it is hard to ignore. I am not a Packer fan but I like what they do and it is hard to dislike the team that they have built.

All in all, our "leadership" is not transparent. They run things like the slick willy politicians that just churn my stomach. Phillips is a career politician. If you read his bio on the Bear's home page you would think the team has stocked 5 Lombardi trophies. There is no fun with this organization. It is best to just turn it off and hope that this current regime truly means change for the better. As long as Phillips is in there it will be business as usual. There is nothing fun or exciting about this team. Even when they went to the Super Bowl and lost to Indy - it was this boring, drab and empty feeling. It seems like the fun of the 85 Bears was considered a sin that will never be allowed again. Winning was great but it was hardly fun.

That was then and this is now. They are going to sell off the parts and liquidate. Our season starts at the next draft.

They are willing to spend on what and who? They certainly have not spent to bring in competent GMs and coaches that can evaluate talent. Sure they make a lot of money because they have a loyal fan base that would pay to see a monkey take snaps. They have fans all over the country as well. As stated before - they are the Chicago Cubs of the NFL (although the Cubs have moved away from the "lets just profit and if we field a winning team - well that is just icing on the cake" mentality). Simply put - they sell tradition NOT winning football.

2)Ted Phillips has NOTHING to do with football operations. He doesnt give input in the draft, isnt approached about contracts. He's a book keeper.

Ted Phillips bogus bio from the Chicago Bear's website:

Ted Phillips was named President and Chief Executive Officer on February 10, 1999. He is the fourth person to serve as president in the organization’s storied 94-year history following Michael McCaskey, George “Mugs” Halas, Jr., and George S. Halas. Since taking on the top leadership role, Phillips has insisted on attention to detail and smooth execution at every level of the Bears’ operation. He has solidified the long-term stability of the Club, while staying keenly focused on bringing a 10th championship to the NFL’s premier franchise.

Phillips has revitalized both the business and football operations by hiring high character, intelligent and driven individuals who share common goals and philosophies on how to build a consistent winner.

Drawing from 32 years of experience with the Chicago Bears, Phillips has shown effective leadership skills by empowering his executive staff to create an environment of collective responsibility in running the day-to-day operations of the Club. Phillips is involved in all critical decisions of the Bears and continues to strive to make all aspects of the Bears organization the best in the NFL. Always insisting on a team first attitude, Phillips has surrounded himself with individuals who fit the organization’s character, culture and values. The team dynamic was crucial in the Bears return to the Super Bowl for the first time in 21 years following the 2006 campaign.

To help set the team up for future success, Phillips oversaw a Halas Hall renovation project that added over 30,000 square feet to the team’s headquarters, which opened in 1997. The renovations included additions to the weight and training rooms, an upgraded locker room, additional meeting spaces and offices, and a new event center which features a broadcast studio and conference space.

Phillips’ other highlights include creating and continuing a strong customer service mentality throughout the organization, returning the Bears training camp to Illinois and presiding over four division championships (2001, 2005, 2006 and 2010) after a decade-long drought.

During the 2015 off-season, Phillips hired Ryan Pace as the sixth general manager in franchise history, giving new direction to the Bears football operations. He has also restructured the front office, promoting five key individuals to the level of Vice-President with direct reporting to Phillips. Additional departmental emphasis was also placed on expanding various customer service initiatives along with placing a new emphasis on database management, marketing research and digital media efforts, in an effort to deliver added value to Bears fans, season ticketholders and business partners.

The Bears training camp returned to the State of Illinois in 2002, turning out in record numbers over the three-week training period on the campus of Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. The 2015 camp marks the 14th year the important touchpoint for Bears fans has been in Illinois.

Phillips’ leadership was also key in negotiating a new home for the team at Soldier Field. Not only making the club more financially competitive, it provides the best fans in professional sports, with a stadium complete with all the amenities they deserve. The Soldier Field game-day experience is second to none, and fans have been critical in creating a great home-field advantage for the team as the Bears continue to maintain their proud history and tradition on Chicago’s magnificent lakefront.

Among the many local and national awards, the Soldier Field project was selected by the New York Times as one of the nation’s best architectural buildings in 2003, and Midwest Construction selected Soldier Field as “Overall Project of the Year.”

Phillips served as the Bears’ Vice President of Operations for six seasons starting in 1993. Recognized for his many years of handling the Bears’ contract negotiations and team finances, Phillips currently serves on the NFL’s CEC Executive Working Group and the NFL’s CBA Player Benefits Plans Committee. Phillips also serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

Before becoming Vice President of Operations, Phillips served as the Director of Finance from 1987 to 1993, handling all player contract negotiations and overseeing the club’s business operations. Phillips joined the Bears staff on September 28, 1983, as the team’s Controller, a position he held for four years.

Prior to joining the Bears, Phillips was employed as an auditor and tax accountant with the international accounting firm Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young), from 1979-83. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1979 with a degree in business and accounting. Phillips earned a master of marketing and management degree from the Kellogg Graduate School at Northwestern University in 1989.

Phillips was born in Oneida, N.Y., grew up in Nashua, N.H., and he currently resides in Libertyville, IL. He has three sons, Matthew, Max and Frank.

THIS IS JUST LAUGHABLE. He is a bum and needs to be fired NOW!!!!!!!!

Well who hired these bums? Where is the accountability for ORGANIZATIONAL FAILURES? If the CEO is not to blame we have a flawed model. This is their game my friend, they clean house and offer it up as an excuse for sucking even more. The old we need to change and accept time for change before we are a winning organization on every level and on a consistent level. Failure. So the CEO is not accountable?

Chris Prosinski was a free agent SS. He split time between the Eagles and the Jaguars last year, but it appears he had not been on a team in 2015. He was not on a team in the preseason and got cut.

LaRoy Reynolds is an OLB who started the season with the Jaguars and was cut three days ago.

At least the Bears are not sitting on their hands. The teams stinks and they seem to be trying to get better. Pace found a number of players off other team's practice squads when he was with the Saints. At least he is out turning over rocks looking to improve this roster. Remains to be seen if these two are an improvement.

I'm fine moving on from. Vareen as well. Another blown pick and a guy who's done nothing. Amos spelled the end for Vareen. Looks like a good pick so far
