****Official 2015 Chicago Bears Offseason Thread **** (1 Viewer)

Finally watching the game now, and looked pretty similar to last year. First team defense gets battered down the field. First offensive play a false start, then a 3 and out. Both Mills and Bushrod look overmatched out there. Bushrod is so overpaid right now.

Then the guys who are supposed to be our top two WR's out for a while. Ouch not a good start.

I know it's a full new offense and defense, but just looks like we got pushed around again with our starters. Don't know how much of that is learning scheme.

Reports saying White is looking at 6 weeks out with a risk of missing the season.
Sorry - looks like this was posted earlier. This is starting to look bad again. Denver cast offs all around and now this. Did they draft White with this injury or is this an injury suffered in OTAs?

I looked at the Bears schedule again. My God, the only game I think they should win before December is against the Raiders. They will almost certainly start out 0-3. No way they beat the Packers, Cards or Seahawks. i think they lose @ Chiefs and @ Lions. Maybe they have a chance against the Vikings in Chicago. Then three of four on the road, @SD, @Rams, Broncos, and @Packers. I see them losing all four of those games. Even if they beat the Vikings and the Raiders, they would go in to December at 2-9. This could get really ugly, really fast.

Yes, they have a brutal schedule this year. It's going to be a struggle.

At least this gives Wilson an opportunity. I think he can be a great receiver and will now have that chance to go out and prove himself. This entire team should be different from last year. They had no heart or desire last year. I put that on Trestman. Even less talented players can succeed in the NFL in the right team environment. Hopefully Fox can give these guys their pride back and they will compete rather than give up like last year.

This works great if the teams on your schedule play with no heart and fail to compete. Unfortunately there aren't many, and it will still come down to talent.

Kyle Fuller is a freaking bum. Was good for first few weeks last year and has been exposed. Dude is never going to be close to an elite CB or even a first rounder. He's terrible

McPhee showing what he's made of tonight. Allen still looking good. Of course Marquess Wilson hurt for the 100th time. This year's rookie class looking very promising. Pace knows his stuff.

This is very troubling.

That sucks. If they could actually get all these guys on the field at the same time they might not be the defensive embarrassment we're expecting.

Atta way to set a good veteran example, Ratliff
He's being suspended due to a DUI from 2013.
Said for substance abuse policy or something. My fault. Didn't think they would suspend someone 2 years later. Odd
I think the legal process is finally done now which means the NFL can make their decision. The punishment by the NFL is very misleading and makes everyone think he was using PEDs or caught with pot. Ratliff sounded very mature about the whole thing too. He admitted he was guilty and accepted the punishment from the NFL without bothering to appeal it. Said he messed up and deserves him punishment and wants to get it out of the way.

I actually give him more respect for owning up to it.

Thanks, Bennett. Just what we need: You talking about the qb. Some people will just never understand the importance of unity in a team. Couldn't be more obvious when you look at last year but numb skull still doesn't understand it.

The worst part is if Martellus stopped after the first two sentences it'd have been great. Instead he mentions Cutler's name and now it's about Cutler not being a leader (even if he stopped there the media would have inferred in anyway, but this just made it easier for them).

QB doesn't have to be the leader, Hoyer's not the leader of the Texans, I don't see Smith being labeled the leader of the Chiefs (he may be). Cutler might not be a leader, but why can't Kyle Long be our leader, without it being a strike against Jay.

I look at maturity and integrity as vital parts of being a leader. Cutler has handled all of the turmoil over the past years with class. Being benched, being called about by his so called friend and teammate questioning his contract and then having him repeatedly attack him from another team, his offensive coordinator dogging him off the record, and now his TE questioning his leadership ability. Handled them all with class. It's ironic that Bennett is calling him out on his leadership abilities while Bennett himself is displaying exactly what qualities I don't look for in a leader. Try looking at yourself Bennett. It would be a lot more helpful to you and your team.

agreed, I guess I was referring to the more sidelines ra-ra guy. ESPN loves those shots of Brady storming up and down the bench screaming at everyone.

I totally understand that point of view, too. It goes without saying that Cutler has had his share of problems at being a leader over the years but I think he's made a lot of progress in that area. It's hard for anyone to be something they're not, though. He's who he is. He's never been shady about it. He may not be a great or even good qb but he's taken some undeserved criticism over the years, some deserved and some not. I think he's grown into being a pretty good guy now. He's had numerous times to lash out at people close to him who hammered him and he's taken the high road every time. That says a lot for where he's at in life.

Oh god, please please please let us replace the Brandon Marshall Show with the Randy Moss Show. Make this loss of a season entertaining.

I think they'll be fine. Not playoff team but it wouldn't shock me to see them at 7 or 8 wins. They have an all star coaching staff. They won't be terrible.

So lots and lots of Forte on the menu? Wondering if he's going to be worth it in the 2nd round still.
Honestly not sure about Forte either, especially with the recent changes on the offensive line... If the WR injuries persist in the season it could be a real stagnant offense.

A case could be made that the Chicago offense was stagnant last year. In 2014 Chicago's offense ranked:

OVERALL

21st: Yards per game

22nd: Yards per play

23rd: Points per game

24th: 3rd down conversion percentage

24th: Turnovers +/- (-5)

7th: Penalty yards assessed *

PASSING

15th: Passing yards per game

29th: Average yards per completion

9th: Passing TD's

3rd: Times intercepted *

28th: Passing plays of 20+ yards

19th: Passing plays of 40+ yards

19th: Sacks allowed

16th: Quarterback rating

RUSHING

27th: Rushing yards per game

26th: Rushing TD's

16th: Average yards per rush

31st: Rushing plays of 20+ yards

Dead last: Rushing plays of 40+ yards

* Lol at their highest rankings being bad stats.

I honestly don't see where Chicago has made any moves offensively that allow them to even maintain that mediocrity, let alone improve on it. I hope I'm wrong, but IMO 2015 is going to be a continuation of early '70's level of suckitude.

I think 8 might be ambitious but i wouldnt be shocked either. Its the NFL, you just dont know. Rodgers could blow out his shoulder in game 1 and two certain losses on the schedule turn into winable games.

Like most NFL seasons, it will come down to injuries. If the Bears can stay healthier than they have this preseason I could definitely see them around .500 with this coaching staff. People forget that these are the same personnel that were in the top 3 in offense a couple years ago. The defense is low on talent but theyve got a coaching staff that will get the most out of them.
