Barkley may have been pick three last year. Now? Maybe not day one. Shouldn't anyway.

Landry probably was day two last year. Now maybe early day three.

What's the bigger difference? I say Barkley. Goes from franchise to fringe starter. Landry went from fringe to project. Barkley lost more cash... Probably

So who lost more money by coming back this year: Jones or Barkley? Both proved to be bunk this year....
Jones without question. He slipped from late 1 to 5th (best).
Saw some projections at 15-20 last yr but I still think he goes in the 3rd this year :bag:
What amount of money would you be interested in betting?
I just look at so many teams reaching and the lack of QBs. Not a Jones fan nor do I think he's worth a damn so maybe another time GB :banned:

RG3, Luck and Wilson are going to make teams reach this year more than normal. But there none of the qbs in this years draft hold a candle to those three from last year.

Manziel could have been playing for Texas. But....
Mac Brown is very over rated.
what's wrong with missing out on the last two heisman trophy winners, both who played high school football around 90 minutes from your office?
yea, Colt Mccoy didnt have anything to do with that along with Garrett Gilbert who was ranked neck & neck with Barkley towards the end as the #1 HS QB.. Not sure what Ash was ranked but Manziel was only a 3 star recruit. UT missed

So the star ranking of player is more important thatn a coaching staff's ability to figure that RGIII and Manziel are better football players than Ash and Gilbert?

David ash is terrible. But every team in the country wanted Gilbert. It's hard to fault the horns for looking to the high school player of the year over a 5'11 guy from kervillw.

100% correct. Teams gonna regret drafting any of the name QBs this year.
Tyler bray will have the best career of anyone in this class.
Did he kidnap the idiot Tyler Bray and replace his brain with Tom Brady's?
Lol. Fair point. But he has the best arm in college and someone is bound to harness it.Right?

Mack did try to sign Manziel... as a safety.

Looking for comp's around the league...his absolute ceiling is an immobile Jay Cutler. Key word, ceiling. Bad head, statue, ####### on the field, ####### off the field. I get he's a Tennessee alum, but gotta remove the rose colored glasses. His arm makes him an interesting project, but that's it - a project. A lot of ####### to remove before even thinking about putting him on the field.

I'm writing a 2000 word post about the qb class for the shark pool and wouldn't you believe I have Bray's upside as cutler and downside as Losman.

You're totally discounting the competition and depth at the position for UT while those players were thinking about schools. Its almost as if you dont acknowledge the scouting of multiple sources along with what I just wrote. Its not cut and dry especially at the QB position. If you were a 3 star QB.. would you go to a school with several 4-5 star blue chip QB's on the depth chart? NO. You could look at RG3 and think the same thing along him following a coach that made more sense for his style of play.Several UT grads in my family.. You're not always going to hit on VY or Colt and its even worse when you dont hit on a big time recruit because other younger recruits dont want to come because they are blocked at the position. I wanted Mack gone for Muschamp even if forced last year but Im not blaming Mack for not hitting on 4-5 star recruits. Its the nature of the business

Cutler moves much better, he's at his best outside of the pocket, it's a big reason why he's successful. Whenever Bray even has to move the pocket let alone breaking it bad things usually happen.

Manziel was a parade all-american QB putting up video game numbers, so he was hardly "unknown." Misevaluated by the star givers, but not some undersized secret player. the Mccoys came from some place smaller than Johnny M. To be overall fair, UT has been way better under Mack Brown than myriad of coaches for around 20 years previous. Still they try to position themselves as THE program in Texas and a consistent top 5-10 power, when they are a tier down from the true big boys.

Bray has the rarest qb skill there is: he can throw the deep out. It's like being a lefty reliever with a 92 mph fast ball or a 6'10 forward that can shoot 43% from three - there will always be someone willing to take a chance.

He was the #39 rated QB in the ESPN rankings AT HIS POSITION. And the "star" givers have experience and know a little bit more I'd think. Let me know when you're head of scouting so we can keep track. :rolleyes:Not trying to be a jerk but hindsight is 20/20

Someone willing to risk their job on it? Personnel people that screw up the QB position lose jobs. His arm gets him into camp, anyone risking their career on him is a fool though.

He is one of the better cases for me to cite to explain why I pay absolutely no attention to any football player outside of NE Ohio until they get on a college field. I'll read up on BG and Michigan's guys, maybe watch some clips, but only after signing day is long gone - usually during that lull in June and July when not a whole lot is going on in sports. High school rankings are an absolute joke. Too many players, too many different people watching film + talking to people, but not enough to come to a good enough opinion.

It's funny watching the old Bowl games on ESPN Classic from the 70s and 80s.

The most striking difference from today is the enormous shoulder pads everyone wore. It's hilarious. There are cornerbacks and safeties in these games who look more jacked up than most lineman today. I played QB and CB in HS 20-something years ago and my pads were bigger than Matt Kalil's are now. No idea how we even managed to run with all that gear on back then.

/glory days

Carry on.

well, I pay little attention until signing day but Im a little interested in who has who where in the end. Tough racket to pin point

Meanwhile, the helmets were made from hard plastic with a tiny amount of rubber inside.
