Wisc QB was totally oblivious to time left on clock. That was on him. He didn't even take a knee on prior play creating confusion as to whether or not the ball was live. Weird play call to center the ball with so little time left and no time outs. QB had no sense of urgency to spike it until about 2 seconds left, by then it was too late.
It wasn't totally on him. The refs completely ####ed up and deserve a ton of blame.
I think they messed up by blowing the play before dead when his knee never touched the ground. After that the Wisc players just stood around until the clock ran out. Only reason they ran up to spike it was because the crowd starting counting down. They had no idea how much time was left and that the clock was running. Wisc QB is chatting with the RB with 4 seconds left and clock running.
He 100% without a doubt took a knee. Watch it again if you still have it on the DVR. Took a knee and his lineman got blocked back into him forcing him to immediately get back up, which is when he went and sat the ball on the ground. The announcers missed the knee and they never replayed it, but its there without a doubt.

I watched it in slo-mo and it looks like he may have taken a knee but I don't think you can say for sure based on the camera angle. He kind of bumped into his own man as he was going down. Either way, I have no idea what he was doing after that. He just kind of walks around, says something to the ref, says something to his rb and lets the clock run out. If he was getting his team to line up to spike it the refs could have called a delay.
There was no reason to call a delay because az st player wasn't delaying anything. it's not the refs responsibility to take into account how much time is on the game clock.
