I watched it in slo-mo and it looks like he may have taken a knee but I don't think you can say for sure based on the camera angle. He kind of bumped into his own man as he was going down. Either way, I have no idea what he was doing after that. He just kind of walks around, says something to the ref, says something to his rb and lets the clock run out. If he was getting his team to line up to spike it the refs could have called a delay. There was no reason to call a delay because az st player wasn't delaying anything. it's not the refs responsibility to take into account how much time is on the game clock.

Great observation. I missed that the first time around, but just watched it again. Stave definitely did take a knee, then put the ball on the ground.

So it's completely on the officials for allowing ASU to delay the game and failing to put the ball back in play.

They all get up quickly to get ready to spike it and then the ref blows the whistle indicating that the ball was dead (The qb took a knee) NOT that they were stopping the clock. Then he realized the clock was running and tries to spike it but too late. Right after he starts yelling at the ref as to say I thought you stopped the clock. I don't know why he assumed the whistle meant a clock stoppage and not that the last play was over. That loss is on him.

Yeah, except the QB can't put the ball in play until the ref spots it and then okays the O to go ahead. There's no rational way you can put this on WISC. I assume you have to be fishing.

They should have been in their stance on the line. They're all just standing there with their hands on their hips. No time outs, you center the ball and then don't know that you have to set up and snap it quick because the clock will be running? That was a mental gaffe. It's fair to see it that way, but I don't see how they were wrong in what they were thinking. Kneel on the ball, 17 seconds, if the officials had acted properly, they would have had time to execute the end game as planned.

I actually like the call a lot to get in the middle and then kill the clock as then you don't have to worry about the kickoff or anything like that. I think the refs were confused when Stave put the ball down and never recovered.

It's fair to see it that way, but I don't see how they were wrong in what they were thinking. Kneel on the ball, 17 seconds, if the officials had acted properly, they would have had time to execute the end game as planned.

I get that. Sorry but I'm seeing a lot of vitriol on teh facebooks and twitters from my homer friends and it's getting out of hand. It boils down to one point. Kick the field goal and walk out of there with the win.
