Haven't watched the games. It's WSU. They nearly beat Oregon as well. They are seemingly a threat to anyone in the league. I'd be thrilled if I was a WSU alum.

Mississippi St. jumps up with two top ten wins in a row and sets up a huge showdown with Auburn. Baylor takes the biggest hit not jumping to #3 because of their pathetic schedule. They've still played no one and their ranking should reflect that.

Good lord I was fitshaced last night....
Upside to bama going down is locally all the bammers are being typical sore losers "once a decade", "they'll never go anywhere, bama still will win it all", "refs robbed us" (
that ones rich)... Etc.
Downside is locally the ole miss contingent are bordering on unbearable. May have to shut down FB for a bit.

How do you have Michigan state as the best 1 loss team when they've been demolished by Oregon?Not to mention ahead of an ole miss team who's beat Alabama (whom you have above the Oregon squad who demolished mich state)?

Really folks? Baylor? Take a look at their schedule: SMU, Northwestern State, Buffalo, Iowa State, Texas.
Texas is the only respectable team on that list and they're terrible this year; not to mention Petty looked pedestrian against a real defense (7 completions).
Punish them for the schedule. I'm tempted to say I could make a better case for Michigan State to be ahead of them, let alone Ole Miss.

You'd think ND would be in top 4, but no matter. Win or lose to FSU, as long as they win out their other games, they should be looking solid for a playoff spot. There's going to be few teams with less than 2 losses and its going to be hard to put a 1 loss ND team when there only loss is to the #1 team in the country behind any two loss team.

I thought OU was perhaps the best team going into that game vs. TCU. So, TCU knocking them off is one of the best wins of the season IMO.
OU's biggest problem--only having one decent WR--has been exposed. I still think they are capable of beating anyone in the country if Knight can complete 50%+ of his passes. But the pass offense isn't quite as good as I was hoping going into the season. Some of my OU friends were complaining about Knight's completion percentage. But it had just as much to do with WRs not being able to get open as his accuracy.

Auburn will jump all the way to 2 in todays poll. But their remaining schedule is absolutely brutal. A legit murderers row over the next seven games.

This year's playoff definitely looks to be littered with debate of one and two loss teams. I'm not sure anyone will go undefeated and it'll leave us/the committee to debate losses, so I'm curious to ask now:
Do you view head to head more telling or strength of schedule/loss?
Ex. Do you rank Oregon ahead of Michigan State because of the head to head win or do you punish Oregon more because they lost to an unbanked team and put Sparty ahead of them?

If yesterday wasn't enough to shelve this convo, I'm not sure what is. There is a ton of football left to played.
The only thing that is clear is that 4 teams is way too few.

I think the traditional way of doing it by pollsters is to rank whichever team you want ahead and then use whichever argument justifies it - even if that argument is contrary to one you made previously.

The problem is people wait for the football to be played to throw logic out the door and defend their point. I asked a question with an example that has already been demonstrated to gauge how others view that scenario. It may be entirely likely with a conference like the SEC who has had multiple teams on the bubble of a playoff in past years.
My question...do you put a 1 loss ND team say they lose to FSU (personally I think ND wins the game on the field so this is a moot point) in the playoffs say Ole Miss and Miss. St. only loss is to Auburn going into the Egg Bowl. The winner of that game finishes with one loss. Considering Strength of Schedule a 1 loss SEC West team is more deserving than a 1 loss ND team or 1 loss FSU team. Thoughts or comments.
The rankings are supposed to reflect the entire season. If in December it's clear that MSU has had a better season than UO, UO's win--at home--early in the season--should not be the deciding factor.

You're missing the point. They have the #1 offense in all of college football, yet they are 1-4 against teams not named Portland State. The reason for that is because they have an offensive coordinator as their head coach.Daywalker said:

On the bright side yesterday, my often-posted thought that Tennessee is done as a national power looks more likely than ever. The days of standing toe-to-toe with Bama, Auburn, LSU, TAMU, UF, and UGA in conference are a distant memory...and competing on a level with Mizzou, SoCar, and Ole Miss will be a challenge.
