Texas is sending the school president to recruit Tulsa's offensive coordinator.
God good.....you're TEXAS. Try and act like it.
Texas is a train wreck...from top to bottom. Patterson was just one example. Their sheer size and wealth keeps the floor relatively high, but it's going to take a while to fix. Hiring Herman next year is only piece of the puzzle.
Although the new, no longer interim, AD seems solid, the Athletic Department is still a mess. Tons of administrative bloat and bureaucratic back-stabbing. And the big money donors who think they own the place are a constant source of embarassment.

I like Strong and think he could be successful, but it is tough to right the ship when people around him are dropping banana peels everywhere and actively rooting for him to fail.

So where does strong land at? Guy is a good coach.

Well, I think we all know who can fix that.

Btw there is a 1-AA playoff game on ESPN 2 right now if you're desperate (I am).
Second half has turned into an offensive show. CSU's defense just collapsed.

Jacksonville State up 13-10 at the half, with 2 minutes to go it's JSU up 58-38

Mt Union v Whitewater in the D3 semis tomorrow at noon if you're interested. Pretty sure it's on ESPN3. These 2 have met in the final the 8 of the last 9 years

Cook and Fournette got less first-place votes than the Navy qb. Wow.

I don't know how Cook was so invisible this year. Baffling.

For my money, he's the best RB in the country. For me, the Heisman has been on a downward trend relative to importance. There doesn't seem to be any real criteria around what they are looking for. It's felt more and more like a popularity contest over the years. This year is no different. I think Watson got the shaft personally. The kid is dynamic and so much fun to watch. He makes that team go. I feel like you put any capable running back in that Alabama system and they are going to succeed. That team goes as the defense goes.

Had a question posed on local sports radio that got me thinking about this whole thing. If Dabo and Nick were both offered to switch Watson and Henry would they? I feel like Dabo would say hell no and Nick would say hell yes, but who knows.

Nick would say hell yes in an instant. Dabo would hang up the phone.

I thought Watson and Mayfield were the best skill players on the teams in the playoff hunt (that's the criteria) and I really don't think Henry is all that good so I thought the voting was terrible. Henry honestly isn't even one of the 5 best players on his own team. Whatever.

I stopped paying attention to major sports awards about 15 years ago - it's just a popularity contest and picking the top players on the top teams. It's pointless except as another recruiting tool for schools.

You're doing what a lot are in looking for a reason Henry isn't deserving, when there isn't one there. The last question is the perfect example. Saban would take Bosa over both. And Joshua Garnett.

You know very well that Henry isn't the best player in the nation, conference, division or even team. He picked up the most carries this year on arguably the best team that was on national tv every week therefore he won.

He is definitely going to be one of those Heisman winners where in 20 years somebody says "he won what??

He carried the team to the CFP while breaking multiple long-standing records for a coach that normally wants to split carries between 5 RBs. Discussing his future is exactly what I'm talking about by looking for something that isn't there.

I noted here early in the season I was skeptical of Henry's chances to be special...watching him every week changed my mind.

He was 55th in the country in YPC this year. He's not special.
YPC suffers when the other team knew he was coming in the biggest moments of the season, like Auburn down by 6 heading into the 4Q...when he still got the ball 91% of the time in that 4Q to close the door. But that's what makes him so valuable.

Pro football focus watches every play of every game. He wasn't even on their first team all-SEC. Significantly behind fournette.

I know you're a huge Bama guy and all but objectively he's not that great. Not like I am a Watson, Mayfield or McCaffery guy.

Fournette is undoubtedly a better player. But Henry's performance and results were great.

He doesn't even win his division if Bert doesn't convert 4th and 25 with a crazy ### lateral against Ole Miss.

Thing is, as long as you can find some jagoff who can hang on to the ball, you can put pretty much anyone in that situation.

That's not the stellar accomplishment you think it is.

These are the stellar accomplishments I'd point to:

Heisman Trophy

Walter Camp Player of the Year

Maxwell Trophy

Doak Walter Trophy

1st Team All-American

1st Team All-SEC

SEC & Alabama All-Time Single Season Rushing Yards Record

SEC & Alabama All-Time Single Season Rushing TD Record

SEC Offensive Player of the Year

Alabama Team Captain

Alabama Offensive MVP

SEC Championship Game MVP

Not really the approach I took. For me, I concede that those nominated and invited to NY are deserving. That's never a question for me. The question for me is more about value to the team. So, I think the question raised gives some insight into value. By him winning that tells me the voters thought his absence would be a larger impact on his team than the others. I don't really see it if I'm being honest. Contrast that to a guy like Watson and I am absolutely confident the wheels would fall off should he be lost.

Superlatives are nice, but in the end, just an extension of the popularity contest, which is why I go more about what I outline here.

Anyway, I am not bashing Henry. He's a good player. It was more a comment on the award than anything and where it's gone....seems to be like any other award out there now. That's all.

QBs had won 12 of the last 14...I think there are some good examples of voters rewarding players for their value to the team on that list.
