At Alabama we're seeing a transition in players leaving early, which is good for all of us. Kids are learning that IF you really have first-round level talent, you can benefit from coming back for your senior year. Ragland is showing that at Bama.

Of the 8 possible early exits, AShawn Robinson and Derrick Henry are the only 2 confirmed to leave...5 others are confirmed to stay ( Allen, Foster, Williams, Jackson, Harrison)...with OJ Howard left to announce.

Honestly though...Ragland made himself $15-20M by returning. A lot of kids graduate by their Junior or RS Junior year. Glad they're starting to see the value in staying and even getting a grad degree.

The driver is draft grade, which must be high enough to consider but not commit to. Good point though, coaches are involved and I'm sure a offensive players questions are all about opps.

Sure...risks they are well-aware of. No one is selling them a scam...it's all laid out for them to decide.

Smith and everyone like him have million dollar insurance policies for injuries. Coming back, not getting injured and sucking on the other hand...

Yes, but Oregon has put more players in the NFL on the defensive side of the ball than offensive. The talent is definitely there. Recall the championship game loss to Auburn. Oregon's defense did its job better than most SEC teams. And it was Oregon's defense that sealed the Rose Bowl win over Russell Wilson. Nick Aliota was able to find the right balance for the Ducks. Don Pellum is a nice guy, but he's the epitome of the Peter Principle. I think Hoke will succeed.

Hope you're right GM...he's a really good dude. He wasn't ready to run a big time program and get used to "We just need to coach 'em up" when the defense doesn't do as they should. It was one of the things that sent him packing in AA...he always blamed himself (to protect the players) rather than holding them accountable. The best coaches do a nice mix of both. If he can learn that and get support from the coaching staff, he'll be fine.

Finally watching the Terrell Davis "A Football Life". Man, Ray Goff was even worse than I thought. Which is saying something.

eta - Wow, when I typed that I hadn't even gotten to the part where Goff was badmouthing Davis to NFL scouts.

I remember in 1993, when they played UF, Goff had Eric Zeier throw the ball 65 times and gave 6 carries to his running backs. 3 by future NFL HOF Davis. Afterwards he said those runs were 6 wasted plays.

This is 20 years ago, but he also bought a balloon machine (you know the plastic balloons that people fill with stuffed animals) and he instead filled it with lingerie and tried to sell those. When that didn't work he just tried to fill them with stuffed animals.
