What is going on with Saban, and not allowing a kid to transfer?  "I always have the kids best interest at heart!"
He was just following a conference rule...and shouldered the heat for it.  Seems to be a dumb rule, but if the SEC does waive it permanently it'll be interesting to see where it goes.

Fournette down with an apparent mild ankle sprain.   He's in a walking boot.  Not exactly the news needed in Baton Rouge right now, although everything being reported suggests that this is minor.

Nobody wants to see that.  3 weeks isn't a lot with a big game...but I'm sure he's in ridiculous condition and will be ready.

8-4, Alamo bowl. Not enough talent.
To win the Pac?   I don't expect you to know the talent level at Oregon being an FSU guy but they have far more talent than Washington who is being projected much higher.  Oregon is never going to get the recruits like FSU due to location,  that hasn't stopped them from being an elite team the past 10 years.

If Hoke can get the defense to an average level this team wins the Pac.  Stanford and Washington at home.

It has nothing to do with being an Fsu guy, I can just go read rivals or 24/7. You guys don't have enough elite recruits. I guess maybe to win the pac, but you could still probably do that with 3-4 losses.

If you go strictly by recruit ratings USC and UCLA would have been dominating the past 10 years.  Of course, penalties hurt USC lately but it hasn't stopped them from getting elite recruits.  Oregon recruits guy that fit their system,  which has been working just fine.  Last year was a case of no depth at QB which caused them to lose to WSU and TCU, and a new defensive cordinator who was in over his head and now demoted.

Edited to add: The reason for lack of QB depth last year was the combination of a few quality qbs not working out or transferring but the biggest reason it was very hard to get QB to commit when Mariota was there.

Rough weekend for Notre Dame with six players arrested from two separate incidents. Word is Butler is most in the clear as eye witness accounts should clear his name.

The moronic five may all be kicked out of school let alone be booted from the team. Most disappointed in Redfield as a senior and possible captain. Fwiw, none of the five were definite starters so it hurts depth more than anything.

Also a Duck homer.  But have two questions:

1) CAN Hoke get the D up to speed?

and

2) Can Prukop be good?  Because we saw what it was like without Vernon last year.  (And without a coach who had the balls to tell his backup QB to get up under center and run QB sneak 3 times in a row and punt to milk the clock every drive in the 2nd half in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl.)

I have heard very good reports on Hoke and the defense coming out of Fall camp.  Whether or not it translates to the field remains to be seen.  However,  the defense does not need to be dominant,  just average with how good I expect the offense to be.

I think Adams was very good last year, but what most pundits don't realize is just how BAD Lockie was.  We lost to WSU and TCU because of Lockie.  Oregon now has Prukop and Jonsen,  a redshirt freshman who both look very good.  Best case scenario Prukop plays like Adams and Oregon makes the playoffs.   Worst case is 8-4, 7-5 type season.

I'm just curious why you think worst case is 8-4/7-5?  I think it's fair to say Oregon has been trending down since Helfrich took over, and it appears the rest of the conference is stronger.

Well, 2 years ago as coach they went to the playoffs and pummeled FSU and lost to OSU in the National Championship game.   Last year, IMO, if Adams doesn't  hurt his finger in early they would have made the playoffs again with their only loss to Utah.   While I agree that Helfrich is no Chip Kelly, he has beaten Stanford and Washington the past 2 years (12 straight versus Washington,  lol).  I agree Washington is getting better but lets pump the brakes until they can show they can beat quality teams in the PAC.  UCLA and USC are hyped every preseason, they don't have the coaching to win right now.  Stanford is legit, but Oregon gets them at home.  WSU is the sleeper right now, they could be pretty good.

Well 3 years ago Malzahn took another coaches players all the way to a title game loss as well.  Both teams show a lot of pieces trending in the exact same direction just a year apart.

Yet.

Trying to to piece together an offense with a new transfer QB every year isn't a sustainable model for success.
Agreed.  This is the last year of transfer QB.  In fact, the redshirt freshman Jonsen could beat out Prukop this year.  They have two other freshman doing very well in camp as well.

I guess my reason for optimism is because I believe this is the best collection of running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends that Oregon has ever had.  If they can get adequate qb, oline, and defense play they win 10 games easily.

Michigan State at #12 is likely a reach.  I read one writer's (that didn't even have them in his top 25) review and he said basically they have hit home runs the last two times with QBs and no one hits three in a row.  Offensive line lost a lot and the D took some hits as well.  The schedule is the biggest thing in MSU's favor this year.  I see them as a 4 loss team this year.

You and I must have different definitions of "pretty cool".  That being said, the class OSU is putting together is truly insane, so congrats for that.
I see, you must interpret itunder "freaking awesome".  Upon further review, I concur. ;)

I haven't watched Last Chance U yet...Heard nothing but great things about it.  The JUCO system in MS is something else.

Ole Miss continues to get in deeper with the NCAA.   I can't think of a past investigation where the NCAA has granted immunity to athletes that were recruited by OM but went elsewhere.

I used to think there was a 50/50 chance OM walked away with a slap on the wrist, but I think this will be a pretty massive setback when its all said and done.

Just sticking with NFL. I sorta liked NCAA, but it was a bit frustrating.

I'd be sitting nicely after the early set, but inevitably there would be a player with a 60 point outing that completely screwed everything.

I I will say though, I LOVED Maction DFS and Pac 12 after dark DFS. It gave me a real interest in games I wouldn't always watch.
