**Official** 2015 Washington Redskins Thread YOU LIKE THAT! (2 Viewers)

Chris Thompson is out for Sunday. I'm not sure what Gruden will do; he seldom wants to play Morris or Young. Maybe he'll trade for Roy Helu.

Defensive end Jason Hatcher (knee), linebacker Keenan Robinson (heel), tight end Jordan Reed (concussion) and left tackle Trent Williams (concussion) all are classified as questionable, as was backup defensive end Stephen Paea (back).

Drew Magary's column is full of humor, foul language, and making fun of the Redskins. http://deadspin.com/the-skins-are-still-one-long-ongoing-con-job-1737617244?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_twitter&utm_source=deadspin_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

He really skewers the "Cousins is the best at running this offense" line of thinking. And he really doesn't like Dan Snyder, or the Snyder-owned media.

Kirk Cousins is starting against Tampa Bay on Sunday and, if he continues being Kirk Cousins, he will likely end up throwing two picks and then finally be benched by head coach and wind analyst Jay Gruden. And when that happens, Gruden’s career in Washington will be all but over. For any head coach, your career is over the second you agree to take Dan Snyder’s money. But even following in the footsteps of comical failures like Steve Spurrier and Jim Zorn and the Shanahii, Gruden stands out as a particularly amusing test dummy because…

  1. He was hired specifically to revive Robert Griffin III’s career.
  2. He turned on RG3 almost immediately and openly murdered him in a postgame presser after losing to these same Bucs.
  3. He all but telegraphed to the front office that he didn’t want Griffin on the team anymore, but the front office tried to make the marriage work for another year anyway, forcing Gruden to start RG3 in the preseason, during which Gruden left RG3 in games too long with a #### O-line and watched him get concussed.
  4. He finally got management to agree to stick with his boy Cousins for a full season…
  5. Only now we know that Cousins is ####ty and Gruden’s “offense” doesn’t seem to be much of an offense at all.
  6. And now Gruden may have no choice but to put a spent Griffin back into the lineup anyway.
Loved how Magary took down Sheehan's stupid, "well, at least Cousin's doesn't worry about his brand" argument.

That Magry piece is sad but true. As a Skins fan, I can't even be mad. I love how all national media is calling out or local media for being total dumbasses though.

Another great point Magary made was something I've been saying since last year. No one gives a crap about your offense, Jay! Who cares if Cousins is a better game manager in Jay Gruden's offense? If Griffin sucks in a conventional offense, why run a generic pro style offense? Taylor your offense to your playmakers, not the other way around. How about just try to win games because your way clearly doesn't work.

Gruden puts RG3 back in, installs an offense that fits RG3 better, and he gets hurt running the read option. Seems about par for the course at this point.

Really they need to stick with Cousins now because that will insure we don't win another game. Cousins is horrible and everybody should have known that already it was obvious. Putting RG3 back in won't help anything at this point. You don't emasculate the guy and then say "ok Dude you're IN!"

RG3 is ruined.

Matt Jones is officially the 3rd down back today. What that means is he'll likely be in for 60% or more of the plays. Gruden's offense is like bizarro world.

Tampa Bay gives up 120 rushing yards/game so the Skins will probably get pass-happy.

Washington gives up 118 rushing yards/game so Tampa will probably run Doug Martin all day.

Inactives today: QB Robert Griffin, RB Chris Thompson, WR DeSean Jackson, C Kory Lichtensteiger, DE Frank Kearse, CB DeAngelo Hall, CB Chris Culliver

That's an amazing comeback... can't recall anything like it in the last decade+ at least.

3-4 coming off the miracle rally vs 2-5 coming off a blowout loss will change the conversation around here for the next 13 days that's for sure.

Never seen a Redskin team come back like that. Mike Evans and Doug Martin going wild, Kerrigan out in addition to all the injuries before the game, there wasn't 1 moment when I thought they'd actually pull it off.

And they did.

I'm on Cloud 9 and won't have any realistic assessment of this team until Wednesday morning, probably. Enjoy the high, fellas. Today we are kings. We'll worry about the actual state of the team in a few days.

Nice comeback. Good for them (and media and fans) heading into bye week.

O desperately needs Jackson to come out of bye week healthy. D makes a lot of mistakes, but they keep fighting.

Play calling seemed better in that second half. Wonder if there was any change?

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Bashaud Breeland's tackle on Doug Martin was the " play of the game. If he takes that one play off they're up 10 and the game is over." Breeland injured his hamstring on the play

Sebowski picked a great game to go to.
We had a ####### blast at the game today. Sebowski picked an amazing game to go to, my voice is shot for the next couple days.
Good times. Fun to see those Bucs fans go quiet. If we lose a free safety Tang showed me in the parking lot that he can stand still and pretend to play safety. Give him a call Danny!

ETA: And speaking of Danny.... I literally could't believe how many big screens around the tunnels had FedEx ads on a loop while it was a struggle to find a tiny screen with the actual game on if I was in line for a beer or walking to a bathroom. Seriously comical.

Seriously awesome game to go to. I'm still not sure exactly how it all happened. Just tried to keep the faith and get ahead of it.

Monday morning, and I'm still not sure how it happened either. I think Cousins completed passes to everyone and Breeland made a game saving tackle, but it's still kind of a blur.

I'd love to see and hear Gruden reaming the team at halftime. He really tore into them from what I've read.

Funny how the narrative of the game changes everything. If the Skins had gone up big early at home as a 5 point favorite against a Bucs team that lost both Vincent Jackson and Louis Murphy during the game, blown the lead, and then held on for a narrow 1 point win, the mood would be completely different. Probably slightly better than last week, but not much. But because it was a Cousins-led comeback that was the greatest in Skins history the whole town is excited about the team again.

And I can't say I blame them one bit. That was fun as hell.

ROFL

eta: love seeing him charged up like this!
lol does that mean: "DO YOU LIKE THAT!" will replace "Lousy Wind" as the tag line for this thread (at least until NE gives us something we do not like)
So great, and actually might have some significance too. Laughing at/with Kirk as we enjoy the two week afterglow of the comeback might be what finally ends all the Cousins/RGIII nonsense. He needed something interesting to make him more than "boring goody two-shoes white pocket QB" that could be cast as the anti-RGIII. Now we've got it.

I was telling the Bucs fans around us that Comeback Kirk has to spot them points or else it isn't exactly a comeback.

Kind of weird that this Vine went viral but the one after the Eagles game didn't. It was very similar to this one.

Real nice performance from Cousins. Not sure what happened to them in the 1st half, but that was one of the better halves of football I've seen the Redskins play in a long time. 3-4 at the bye sure looks better than 2-5. With as bad as the division is, they're still in this thing somehow. The schedule after the bye doesn't look too pretty though: @Patriots, Saints, @Panthers, Giants, Cowboys, @Bears, Bills, @Eagles, @Cowboys. Of course, the Cowboys should have Romo and Dez back when we finally get to play them.

i posted this in the game thread too...

the clock did not start on the last play when there were 12 seconds left until after the play was over. the ref went back and put what 3 or 4 seconds on the clock after the skins took possession of the ball.

assuming the bucs didn't do that bonehead backwards lateral and the receivier was tackled there, they would have had ample time to run up and spike the ball.

what would the refs had done and what would they have based any adjustments to the clock on?

Don't the refs keep the ***OFFICIAL*** time on a their watch? That's how they know to tell the clock operator to change the time when there's a difference. So, I could see two scenarios:

1) The ref notices the difference with a couple seconds left on the clock, stops play, tells the time keeper to put 4 seconds (for example) on the clock, which allows TB the time to line up and snap the ball once the clock starts winding.

2) Or, they just let the clock on their watch run down to 0:00 and then say the game is over as TB rushes to try to snap the ball.

Dude, that is hilarious!

BTW, due to my Law of Sports Superstitions, you are now required to attend every Redskins game from here on out. Sorry.

So now there's people that think Kirk deserves an extension? Let's pump the brakes here a bit. As good as he was this week, he was that bad the previous week. Consistency has always been an issue with Kirk. Let's see him put together a good stretch before we talk about extending him for a few years.

There's people that think everything if you look hard enough. No one worth a #### should be saying anything like that.

I've been pretty critical of Cousins, but someone has to play QB, or at least backup QB. Assuming they cut RG3, they don't have any QBs signed for next year. It's not as if that if they sign Cousins, they'll be missing out on a great list of free agent QBs -- Fitzpatrick and Bradford are probably the best; maybe Brock Osweiler, but who knows if he'll be any good. Extending Cousins also does not necessarily prevent them from signing one of those QBs too, or drafting a QB either.

I don't think they should break the bank for him or pay him starter's money. But, in the abstract, I don't think extending him is completely horrible.

Yeah, like just about everything, it will all come down to how much $ he can demand. Finishes the season really strong and he'll want to get paid.

I remember when a 28 year old guy named Trent Green stepped into the starting role, had a good season, became a FA, and we let him walk. He eventually had a few good years once he finally got his chance. In the short term, Casserly shipped off a 1st (Culpepper) and 3rd to Minnesota for Brad Johnson and that seemed ok for one year. I don't remember what Green wanted and I also don't really remember if the Redskins gave him really any interest that offseason. But, if you have a guy that shows promise and is somewhat affordable, he's probably worth keeping. If he wants a lot of money, then pass.

I'm not saying we shouldn't extend him. But, I don't think we should rush to that decision after 1 good game. As good as he was against the Bucs, he was that bad against the Jets. I wouldn't mind if they brought him back next year if he continues to play well. I just don't understand why that decision needs to be made right now.

Brad Johnson was worth keeping.
Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl after leaving Washington.

We actually let a good number of QBs go. I remember Rich Gannon being let go and then he goes on to be fairly top notch for a number of years afterwards.

There is something to be said for seeing value in what you have vs. gunning for the next, shiny new object.
