And how nice has that Pierre Thomas signing been?
Scott McCloughan has been the best move this organization has made in a really long time.
McCloughan really knows what the #### he is doing. How many times has a player we've never heard of, or we didn't know was on the team, stepped in and done something big? A lot more this season than any other season I remember.

Pierre Thomas was a big part of grinding the Eagles down in the second half last night. You could just feel the Eagles gradually giving up hope.
Yeah, who know Pierre had so much left in the tank. He looked really good last night.

ok ok. So are we locked into playing Seattle? What are the scenarios and who are we rooting for today?
I'm still euphoric from last night's result, and having trouble posting anything coherent this morning, but the above got my attention.

Absolutely want Seattle. To be the man, you've gotta beat the man, and they've been our absolute Playoff nemesis in our recent history. I'm all for poetic justice, karma and storybook endings. Another monkey it would be quite pleasant to get off our back, in a season of monkey-off-your-back stories. Wouldn't have it any other way. Take on the obstacle. Remove the obstacle. Complete the circle.
Yes, why not take the challenge.

1. We can't win away from home -- won two in a row away from home.

2. We can't win two in a row -- we've won three straight.

3. Kirk Cousins will always be a turnover machine and is a career backup (billick) -- in last 9 games 20 TDs, 3 INTs...70% completion rate.

4. We can't win prime time games or meaningful games -- we crushed Philadelphia in a prime time game for the division title.

Experts Now: Winning NFC East is nothing. Redskins will be crushed by Seattle.

Maybe so, but recent history has shown that the "experts" and snarky media columnists (e.g. Mike Florio) don't get to decide what actually happens in football games.

When men believe in something, they can be better than their history and better than their past mistakes.

It's yet to be seen whether this team can win a playoff game. But no sense in burying them now. I've been gun shy to believe in them this year but last night they came through and earned some trust from me...I know they are going to fight for it if nothing else...

Im going to keep doubting them because im superstitious and they have done better the more i doubt them..... so as far as im concerned, Seattle is going to crush us. :football:

The matchup with Seattle is not at all certain. Green Bay is trying hard to drop to the 5th seed right now, and Minnesota still has a good chance at 5th as well.

My order of preference: MIN, GB, SEA

About the kneel at the end of the first half, I still can't figure out what was going on. It wasn't a one time thing. He kneeled before he grabbed the refs head, and after I was done yelling at the tv, he did it again. Unexplainable.

He was beating the eagles so badly that he went to the rarely used first half victory formation.

Pretty sure this is accurate, but correct me if I'm wrong:

If GB loses to MIN next week, we play GB regardless of any other games.

If MIN wins tonight, but both SEA and MIN lose next week, we play MIN.

Otherwise we play SEA.

Yep. And not sure I buy Gruden that they called a fade to Garcon because Garcon doesn't move at the snap.

I missed that play and wish I would have seen it. Wife and I were walking out of the bar while it happened. Sounded like the most ridiculous play of the year from the descriptions I've read here. Not getting any points out of that drive seemed, at that point in the game, to be dangerous.

Thompson was split out as a receiver on the TD pass he caught. Has he done that before?

That long time-consuming drive at the end of the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter was just impressive.

Cousins may have been the weekly leader in kneel-downs this week. He had 3 at the end of the game and 1 at the end of the 1st half.

Updated with MIN win over NYG and placed in chronological order/decision tree format:

-SEA wins over ARI:

---MIN wins over GB: We play GB

---GB wins over MIN: We play SEA

-SEA loses to ARI:

---MIN wins over GB: We play GB

---GB wins over MIN: We play MIN

Again, interesting to note is that we play GB if they lose next week, no other games matter. Considering the way they've been playing lately (especially this week), and the hypothetical situation where they lose again next week, they're a team that's falling apart, and I think we'd be favored pretty heavily.

Also that scenario could still support a SEA@WAS revenge game. We could meet up in the NFC Championship game.

I just watched it again, not sure what he was trying to do on the first snap but he didn't completely kneel down. It looked like he took the snap and almost spiked it but he looked confused. Probably because the ball was snapped before the ref started the clock again. Then he fondled Walt Coleman. Then Philly took a timeout. Chip complained to Coleman about something, maybe he was arguing Kirk should be ejected for touching him, because he walked away with a look like "Seriously? You're wasting my time with that?" Then the ball was snapped for real and Kirk kneeled then half-spiked then tried to run to the end zone.

It still hasn't quite sunk in that this team is going to the playoffs. What an unbelievable ride this year.

Down 24-0 in the 1st half against Tampa, I thought the season was over. I was calling for Kirk to be benched. Gruden to be fired. All we've done since then is go 6-3 and win the division. Just doesn't seem real!

HTTR!

There's a debate over on ES, where people are trying to say Cousins is a no doubter top 10 guy not only this year, but going forward. I don't buy it. He's played really well this year, but there's no way he's in any non-Skins fan's top 10 list. Top half of the league? Sure. But not top 10.
He's got room to grow.

If the whole league was re-drafted, he isn't a top 10 QB pick. Top 15? Probably.

That's far better than we've had in a while.
Top 15 NFL qb or fantasy qb? He's looking great but no way he's better then 17 starting NFL qbs.
NFL franchise perspective.

You have to account for age in that decision as well.

Wow, great victory tonight!

The only negative to me was that boneheaded "kneel down" at the end of the first half. But, as I much as I was dismayed by that, I was equally impressed that Cousins and the team shook it off and played a good second half. They were NOT doing that before (think about how they handled adversity vs. Carolina). The team is growing in confidence every week and are really fun to watch right now.

Ditto above on the Pierre Thomas signing. On that one drive he was very, very instrumental chewing clock and getting first downs. Scot McC deserves big props for a crafty signing.

Preston Smith 3 Sacks...what!

Kirk Cousins -- 4 TDs, 365 yards, no INTs...what can you say...he's either getting paid big or franchised...but a good problem to have.

Jordan Reed -- continues to be a beast.

Great win!
That kneel down... need to start a YOU SPIKE THAT! meme imo

Alright, so now that we know we're finishing in 1st, that clears up the schedule for next year. We'll get the Panthers at home and the Cardinals on the road.

But looking at the schedule at a whole, wow it looks tough next year.

Home: Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Packers, Vikings, Steelers, Browns, Panthers

Road: Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Lions, Bears, Ravens, Bengals, Cardinals

Very true. That would have been really interesting to see how the league would have handled that one.

You know, looking at how he's finished the season though, top 10 next year is not out of the question.

Remember this team was built around Robert through the preseason. I saw an interview with Cousins talking about it. It took him awhile to gell with everyone at the start of the season. But last 9 games: 20 TDs, 3 INTs, 70% completions, 6-3 record. That's top 10 trajectory absolutely.

Not saying we crown him top 10 right now but to talk about Cousins like he's "career average" is not warranted IMO. He has a higher ceiling than maybe we realized...

So who are we hoping to play in the 1st round? Personally, I'd rather see Green Bay. I think that would give us the best chance to win. They have the weakest defense of the 3 and they haven't looked all that great since September/October.

Wow, that's pretty murderous. Its going to have to be one of the toughest in the league:

Panthers

Cardinals

Packers

Vikings

Steelers

Bengals

6 out of 10 non conference games against likely 2015 playoff teams (or at least playoff caliber in the case of Pittsburgh)

Then you have

Browns

Ravens

Lions

Bears

Not as bad, but Ravens will likely be back with Flacco.

Holy crap that is tough.

Right, and this could absolutely happen. I would say Minn is playing better right now and even though it's in GB they have a good shot to win. They are motivated to win and take the division.

We can only hope!

Yeah that's gotta be one of the more brutal schedules next season. I know the Ravens were bad this year, but they'll more than likely be back to being a playoff contender next season with Flacco, Smith, and Suggs all back. Though, either the Giants or Eagles (whoever comes in 2nd) gets those teams minus Packers/Cardinals, but they get the Falcons/Seahawks instead, which isn't much better.

Does anyone listen to 106.7 the fan in the morning? A friend shot me a text telling me that Grant Paulsen just went on a funny rant against Redskins haters this morning.

Curious to hear reaction.

Looking at Stub Hub and Craigslist for tix. SRO about $100 and actual seats (with parking pass) anywhere between $300-$500.

Anyone else looking?

TL;DR version: most likely opponent is the Vikings.

That doesn't look so bad. At least not right now. 4 or 5 playoff teams.

In September 2016 everything will look very different though. There's the playoffs, then front office turnover, then free agency and the draft, then minicamps and training camps and injuries --- so much changes between week 17 of one season and week 1 of the next season.

I dunno, that doesn't look like an easy schedule at all.

You've got at least 5 playoff teams: Carolina, Arizona, Green Bay, Minnesota, and Cincinnati. The good thing is, 3 of those games will be at home.

But just looking ahead, Dallas will have Romo and Dez back and healthy next year. The Ravens get Flacco, Smith, Suggs, and Forsett back. Eagles and Giants are always toss up games.

Just looking at that, I'd feel pretty good we can at least split the division games and beat the Lions, Bears, and Browns. That gets us 6 wins. I'm guessing it will take more than 8 wins to win the division next season. So we'll probably have to win at least 3 of those 7 games against the Cardinals, Panthers, Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Packers, and Vikings.

If you look real close and read his lips, you can see Kirk saying, "You like that."

Not sure if there is any truth to the rumor, but I understand later on that evening Chris Cooley called Coleman a "backstabbing b*tch."

On passes that have traveled 20 yards or longer in the air, Cousins has completed nine-of-14 throws to Jackson -- and eight-of-37 to everyone else.
John Keim

Since we've been talking about who they might keep at WR and who they might let go, that information is relevant. A player on the field who can regularly move the team 20 yards or more at a pop is a hell of a weapon, both in changing game flow and in opening up underneath parts of the offense. Alfred Morris has run better since Jackson's been back, for example.
I had openly wondered if they would keep Jackson another year. I now believe they will. His skill set is pretty rare and would be very difficult to replace. But Jackson needs to stay on the field more and be available.

the hypothetical situation where they lose again next week, they're a team that's falling apart, and I think we'd be favored pretty heavily.
Off the top of my head, these are what I would guess each line starts out at:

Sea -3

GB 0, or -maybe- WAS -1

MIN +3

I'm not sure if I believe the accuracy of those numbers. It's hard to predict who will win the SEA-ARI game or even who will be trying to win. ARI can only move into the #1 seed with a CAR loss and they've locked up a first round bye with the #2 seed already. SEA is only getting a wildcard berth so they'd only be changing their opponent, and it's not clear that a win would give them an easier game.

But even if you believe his numbers, his math and analysis is wrong:

SEA=GB win% * SEA win%=.583*.294=17.1% (not 13%)

MIN=GB win% * SEA loss%=.583*.706=41.2% (41.1% in article, probably just rounded differently)

GB=GB loss%=41.7% (also the correct number in the article, but I'm not sure how the author concluded that 41.2 > 41.7. The author's own math should have predicted GB as the most likely opponent.)

Generally I think it's safe to conclude that the GB win + SEA win parlay makes Seattle the least likely opponent. Vegas spreads support the idea that a GB win and SEA loss are the most likely outcomes, so the parlay that leads to playing MIN is more likely than the SEA outcome. A simple GB loss should produce similar odds to the MIN parlay depending on how strongly you believe GB and ARI are favored.

The first place schedule always looks tough. But you never know how good these teams will be next year.

Also, the 6 division games and AFC games are common to the whole division.

Still, it looks like the Redskins benefited from having the 4th place schedule this year. Their schedule really wasn't that difficult. They also benefited from having many of the harder games early in the season when they weren't that good.

So who is going to the game? im nervous because the last one i went to poorly with the whole rg3 injury and all.....
Every NFL team allows season ticket holders to reserve playoff tickets before the season starts. They don't charge your credit card until they actuall go on sale, so I thought ":lmao: sure why not". So I guess my card will be charged soon. I went in 2012 with one of my sons, so it might be my wife and daughter this time. Although, I'm sure my wife will be ok if I go.I hate Seattle.
Wait, you need to reserve your tickets before the season? I'm a STH and I assumed that entitled me to my seats for any playoff games.
Not sure if that was my only chance and that I needed to do it, but it was offered. I got an email before the season started saying the NFL was making every team make this offer to season ticket holders.
Here's the email I received before the season started:

NFL Offers Early "Pay-as-We-Play" Option for Postseason Games

I got this email at 9:45 this AM. Didn't reserve anything at the beginning of the year. Had my W.C. tix by 3:00 PM.

I believe the stories go back to at least the Gibbs SB days when fans would go to Dulles Airport to welcome the team home from road games. I remember some news reports talking about fans being at Redskins Park to greet the buses during Gibbs 2.0. In more recent years, it's usually just been less than 10 people, led by a couple from Extremeskins. No matter what time and no matter what the weather, a small group has always shown up. After beating the Eagles, this was the scene.

Charley Casserly apparently tweeted that there were 3k fans. An Extremeskins poster who was there said probably more like 1000-1500. Either way, pretty awesome and I wonder how unique this is across the league.

The first place schedule always looks tough. But you never know how good these teams will be next year.

Also, the 6 division games and AFC games are common to the whole division.

Still, it looks like the Redskins benefited from having the 4th place schedule this year. Their schedule really wasn't that difficult. They also benefited from having many of the harder games early in the season when they weren't that good.
The two fourth-place games were Rams and Bears, both of which they won. If they had finished third, they would have gotten Niners and Vikings. So it most likely added one win. But I don't think the schedule had a big impact one way or another, other than the fact that the whole NFC East was pretty bad this year. They went 3-2 in the division, 2-2 vs the NFC South, 1-3 vs the AFC East. But it's not like last year when the AFC North teams all looked good because they got to beat up on the NFC South.

I know recency bias probably has some people fearing the Vikings as potential opponents and fading the Packers and Seahawks. But I look at it this way: I would much rather host Bridgewater in his first playoff game then have to beat a SB-winning QB.
