**Official** 2015 Washington Redskins Thread YOU LIKE THAT! (1 Viewer)

Cooley's not the only one in the tank for Cousins either. This morning Jason Reid was actually yelling at Andy Pollan, saying that Grant fell down and the INT was his fault.

That's what has come of the last 9-12 months of those guys rooting for Griffin to lose his job. Now they compromise their reporting to defend Cousins and their opinions of him. Very annoying and just terrible reporting.

There's nothing wrong with saying "we don't have a good QB on the roster".
Yeah, it seems like team Cousins was so happy for him to get the starting job that they are struggling to be objective about how Kirk is doing now. A lot of defending Kirk's issues on the Junkies and Grant Paulsen's been pretty bad about it on twitter ever since Kirk got the job.

Really good interview from Dan Steinberg of Bomani Jones: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dc-sports-bog/wp/2015/10/16/how-espns-bomani-jones-became-the-worlds-biggest-kirk-cousins-skeptic/

Says alot of things I think some in here have been thinking/saying all season.
I liked this part in a vacuum. Not necessarily the race context it was put in:

Mike Shananan, whom Washington radio shows foolishly keep calling as if he wasn’t a failure with the team, talks about how Griffin would take four or five years to become a pocket passer, but keeps talking about how good Cousins will be … into the fourth year of his career?

I've been saying all along, find me another coach that while he was with a team went 24-40, yet is held in such high regard among the local media of the team. Do they not realize his winning% was the same as Zorn's? Never understood why Shanny gets a pass here.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. And I was getting so optimistic about the game.

I still think stopping Chris Ivory is going to be the key. That and Cousins throwing it to our team instead of theirs.

^^ You were optimistic like thought we could win? Hell yesterday I picked the Jets to cover 6 points in one of my pools :(

A concussion? You mean the concussion that was rumored immediately following last week's game, but then was quickly denied by the team, and then wasn't mentioned again until now 5 days later?

Oh.

@Redskins: OUT for Sunday's game vs. Jets: Hall, Reed, Culliver, Lichtensteiger, T. Williams.

QUESTIONABLE: D. Jackson, M. Jones.

That's seven names and seven players are inactive each week.

You thinking what I'm thinking? RG3 at safety?

Would it surprise you if they made one active just so RG3 had to stay inactive?

I like a lot of what the guy has to say. This was spot-on

I think fans and media are unrealistic about Cousins because, after screaming so loudly for Griffin’s demotion, they’d like to be right. That’s why criticisms of Cousins are often followed by “but he’s better than Robert,” a guy who isn’t even active. What other explanation would there be for them, and Gruden, to work so hard to absolve Cousins of responsibility for all his mistakes, most recently an indefensible game-losing pick-6? Why else would they ignore how little faith Gruden actually shows Cousins through his play calling? All Cousins needs to do for many is not be Robert Griffin, but we’re long past the initial move. Now it’s time to be an NFL quarterback.

Oh.
Tony Willie is apparently the team doctor, also.

My first reaction to stuff like this is to think that this is football, it happens to all teams. But no, it doesn't. We see the injury reports every week, I don't remember seeing one from an opponent that looked like this. Certainly not in mid-October.

Agreed. That's 6 starters and a solid RBBC guy. I don't know of any other teams that have something like that going on.

I'm not scared of Fitzpatrick. This is a winnable game.
I think it was, until Trent and Lichtensteiger went down. Cousins is going to get blindsided and bullrushed up the middle all day.

Add to that the rushing yardage they gave up to Atlanta, and Chris Ivory coming up in this game, and the Jets may not have to pass more than 12-15 times all day to win. Just get a lead, run the ball, rush Cousins, and let the Redskins be the Redskins.

I'll be rooting for them of course, and when the game starts anything can happen. But things don't look good right now.

Would take a tremendous effort to win this week IMO. Going against the Jets D was going to be tough anyway. Doing it without 2 starters on the OL, your starting TE and possibly without your #1 WR and down a RB, don't make things any easier.

I remember in past years when the Skins players were silently giving up on seasons --- injuries just seemed to come up more frequently and to linger longer and longer. I haven't had any sense yet that the giving up is happening this year, but that injury list is mind-boggling.

It would help if they had at least 1 TE who could block on their roster. But no, we have "receiver types" because that's "the system".

OK, here's my Redskin Radio Coverage Gripe Of This Week:

Suddenly the geniuses who absolve Cousins of all blame are trying to push Alfred Morris out so Matt Jones will be the whole running game. The reasoning is "he's the future, might as well let him start learning now."

They're ####### idiots. There are 349 days a year that do not matter, and 16 days that do in a football season. And their plan is to use those 16 days for someone to learn?

Yup, that's why I added the mid-October thing. Obviously you're going to get more injuries later in the season plus more guys will sit out with nagging injuries when there's nothing to play for but draft position. But something like this after just 5 games?

And the quality is particularly striking. 5 guys out of 53, sure, that's a lot but not that big of an outlier. But 5 guys in the top 20 or so in terms of talent/importance due to lack of depth at the position, with probably 4 in the top 10? Totally absurd.

Josh LeRibeus shouldn't even be on a football team. Now he's starting for us, probably until after bye week.

To be fair, the Jets lost their starting QB. :D

Seriously, down two OLineman vs. that defensive line...that's gonna be tough sledding. Our best hope is that our defense plays out of it's mind and then we luck box our way to one or two scores and win a squeaker low scoring affair...

We'll win this game on the backs of our outstanding Special Teams, of course. No injuries there!

5 FGs for Hopkins.

Crowder with a PR TD.

Forced fumble on a punt sets us up at the 4 yard line where we proceed to rip off four straight 1-yard runs by Darrell Young for the TD.

That's 29 points.

Winning on the field.

Down 3 offensive linemen. Lauvao is already out for the year, with Long replacing him.

Our offensive line from left to right is now Nsekhe, Long, LeRibeus, Scherff, and Moses.

Morgan Moses is the veteran of that unit.

General Custer will get us out of this.

Seems like the consensus is, its gonna be a tough wk. I agree.

That aside, I'm curious to see how carrier does in his 2nd full wk as starting te.

I also am looking at Crowder in the slot against a good slot corner.

How will cousin's look against what looks to be heavy pressure today?

Can the run defense rebound from a rough wk and stop a surging ivory?

Any other game within game things you guys are watching?

Need to sin the turnover battle today. DBs need to get themselves on the highlight reel with some picks. Stop the run. Don't throw it to the wrong team. We can win this.

Inactive list: RB Matt Jones, WR DeSean Jackson, TE Jordan Reed, T Trent Williams, C Kory Lichtensteiger, CB DeAngelo Hall, CB Chris Culliver

With this many injuries to key players the thing I'll be watching is the coaching staff. They already know where their players are weak and overmatched in the game, or they should. I want to see offensive and defensive game plans that take that into account. I do NOT want to see the same things done over and over when they're failing.

The more Alfred Morris is in the game the better the Skins chances are. It'll mean they have patience with the run and the run game gets working, and Gruden doesn't abandon it when down by a FG in the 2nd quarter. The more Chris Thompson is on the field the worse their chances are because that means Gruden will have them passing a lot. This O-line isn't going to hold up under a lot of pass attempts.

And yeah, it would be nice to see them keep the Jets to 3 yards per rush, you know? Instead of gaping holes.

That was an embarrassing football game. Tampa is next week, and I'd say if they lose that Gruden is gone.

Then the bye, then the Patriots.

While I dont necessarily agree, lets project forward, hypothetically.

Who would be the interim HC?

I hope you dont say Callahan. He's doing pretty good things with the OLine. Why would we want to see him pull his focus off the line where things are developing to steer a sinking ship as HC?

"Jay, how long can you live with multiple interceptions in games?""

"Have to look at the film"

"We'd like to see Kirk succeed."

"We'd like to have a full cast of characters our there"

"He's not the only quarterback in history that's made a bad decision or bad throw, and it won't be the last one"

" a little windy"

" a lot of pressure on him"

" had no running game out there"

" the intent is for him to be the QB the rest of the year"

What I'm saying is if they lose the Tampa game, the season is lost. Gruden won't be able to motivate a good performance out of the team the rest of the year. So the question is whether you keep a coach who's been tuned out or bring in a temporary replacement. They're both lousy options. With the team basically giving up on Gruden late last year (which he compensated for by making practices easier), that would be 2 seasons in a row here of that happening. I don't think the owner will tolerate that.

I'd rather Callahan stay the O-line coach.

Maybe hire Cooley as coach (kidding)

It was hard to make out, but I think Gruden said it has been made clear to him that the Tampa game was critical.

It was quite clear he said "the Tampa game is Code Red here".
