So who is a better OC? This McVay guy or Shanahan?
Kyle Shanahan is much better, but he's also a very good OC who has run some really successful offenses. I wouldn't necessarily compare the two since this is McVay's first OC job and I think the offense is more Gruden than McVay.

Hard to compare, since Shanahan has more of a track record.

For now, I'm going to say that Shanahan has shown me more:

1. Offensive success in Houston, Washington (partially), and Atlanta

2. In Washington, he showed he was not a "system guy" by tailoring an offense to the skillset of his QB (Griffin, not Grossman lol). I think that takes something, and I will give him props for that.

3. McVay may be held in this esteem in time but just don't think he has the track record to be compared yet.

The Giants lost to the Saints on a Kai Forbath FG.

After the Patriots game the Redskins face the Saints. Brees had over 500 yards passing against the Giants.

Question: In the next 2 games against the Patriots and Saints, how many total points will the Redskins give up?

I'll say 70

The Saints worry me, but they're a totally different team away from home.

3 of their 4 losses are on the road this year. They've averaged 21.3ppg on the road compared to 32ppg at home. Yes, some of that is skewed by yesterday's game, but in their previous 3, they've scored: 19, 26, and 31.

They're playing well and have won 4 of their last 5, but 3 of those 4 wins have been at home. And not surprisingly, they beat the Colts in Indy, who just happen to play in a dome.

Do I think we beat the Saints? Probably not, but it may not be that bad of a game.

The way I see the Saints (and no, I haven't followed them that much) is that they started just terribly this year and have been getting noticeably better, at least offensively. I'd rather the Skins had played them 4 weeks ago.

edit: On the other hand Buddy Ryan is still their DC and he isn't worth a crap as a DC so the Skins should be able to score.

Can kickers have revenge games?
Well, wouldn't they cancel each other out? Hopkins was with the Saints and we had Forbath. Maybe it's just a game full of field goals.
Redskins with a kickoff for a score would be nice. Forbath was pretty good here, from a FG perspective. Shame his kickoffs sucked so hard.

I see Mike & Mike are now back on ESPN980 in the morning, and I have to put up with their stupid banter because I can't pick up 106.7 on my car radio. I guess whoever didn't want the Mancave show on, delayed it 2 weeks, and got Chuck Sapienza fired must have finally gotten their way. The Mancave was outdrawing the Mike & MIke show on that station, so they cancel it and put Mike & Mike back on. Dolts. There was some decent sports coverage on the Mancave --- John Keim, Tariq el Bashir (sp.), and Andy Pollin's sports wrapup. Now there's 2 stupid guys who never shut up and who never say a word about the Skins.

You had a real, let's it, interesting, song in your sig a while back. Try listening to 820AM. Real crazy eclectic radio station. 30's blues followed by a Prince sing, then reggae and punk songs. Give it a few tries. I love it when I'm in town.

Thanks. I'll see if I can pick it up on the way in tomorrow.

I don't remember what song I had in my sig. Maybe this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4hlKwBs9lU

 that's the one.

I actually saw that song done live by that guy last year, from about 10 feet away in a small club. Had my feet propped up on the stage, laughing like hell.

820AM was pretty interesting this morning. Much better than Mike & Mike.

Legarrette Blount may rush for a boatload of yards this Sunday if the Skins don't get their run defense fixed.

On offense, they're hoping for Lichtensteiger back of course since he's better than LeRibeus. But Lichtensteiger gets pushed around too often as it is, and word is that even if he plays his shoulder will be weak.

I know the Redskins have almost no chance of winning. That said, why am I still hopeful?
An interesting tidbit:

Since 2007, the Patriots are 17-0 when favored by at least 14 points.
That is a lot of times. How many times have the Redskins been favored by 14 or more points? Maybe none.

Also, it feels like the Redskins aren't getting that much of the bye week benefit. They have twice played a team coming off a bye week. And after their bye week, they get the Patriots who played on Thursday the week before. The Patriots get 1 1/2 weeks to prepare and game plan for the Redskins. Most likely Belechick will have done more in 1 1/2 weeks and Gruden does in 2 weeks.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this: The Patriots are way overdue for a letdown.
dont try to get me excited! I wont do it! :scared:
Using the same logic, the Redskins are way overdue to beat a good football team. It has been 2 1/2 years.
Sounds like we've got this locked up! Back up he truck!
True fact: the last time the Redskins were double digit underdogs, it was 2014, Monday Night Football vs. Dallas with Colt McCoy starting at QB.

They won the game.

Not saying anything. Just providing an innocent statistic. :-)

I just hope Gruden has the sense to tap the brakes and not keep pouring it on and embarrassing the opposing team this week. They tend to remember things like that in the playoffs.

Here are a couple areas they've improved this year: penalties and game management.

Washington ranks 15th in the NFL in flags per play (.061). Last season they were 32nd (.066). There have been a few too many delay-of-games (4). Only three teams have more. But it ranks 20th in holding calls (nine) and has had just one illegal formation penalty. There’s room to get better there, but it’s a far cry from recent seasons.

Meanwhile, on all three of Kirk Cousins’ game-tying or game-winning touchdown drives this season, the Redskins had the benefit of all three timeouts late in the game to either stop the clock on defense or help on their decisive possession.

Inactives: QB Robert Griffin, WR Rashad Ross, TE Anthony McCoy, C Kory Lichtensteiger, DE Frank Kearse, NT Terrance Knighton, CB DeAngelo Hall

edit: with Ross inactive the chance of a long kick return goes out the window

with LeRibeus playing for Lichtensteiger, watch for the Patriots to crash the interior line

Also expect the Patriots to find several ways to get Gronkowski covered by Perry Riley

Knighton has not played that well for the Redskins. Not one of McLoughsn's better moves.
I think it was a relatively cheap move that resulted in a better interior d-line than they had last year. I don't think he's played well, though. It's hard to tell what he is asked to do, though --- just occupy blockers or actually penetrate.

It was and is a good risk to take on. It was and is only a 1yr prove it deal.

Redskins defensive end Ricky Jean Francois doesn’t mince words. “We just didn’t execute. It was like we were out there and you feel like we were just playing scout team for this team…
