*****Official 2016 Kentucky Derby Thread***** (1 Viewer)

Normally I root for the Kentucky Derby winner to win the TC, but the owner of AP's kid is a mega #####.

Hit on exacta, tri and super. Thank you Tale of Verve.

First time I bet on Twinspires, my super win is not showing up in the balance, but just lists "claim winnings", wtf is that!?

Wow nice score

how new of a player are you there?

My guess is if acct not verified yet they are waiting for verification since super is a taxable win

Hit up support on chat/phone and they can probably confirm

Big longshot up for 2nd...guessing he was 7th/8th choice

Those combos always underbet

true. the 5 was the 2nd biggest dog. Just figured a lot of people might have keyed pharaoh over all the other horses. Then again that ticket would cost $420 (on a $2 ticket) and if neither of the 2 dogs finished in the money it woulda only paid like $200.

You have it right. They asked for my full SS# and it was processed.. Signed up on twinspires because of a derby bonus they had going. Usually bet on Bovada.

F you. Tale of Verve ruined every ticket I had save for the 20 dollar place ticket on Pharaoh. Turned 125 in wagering credits into $34 of real money.

damn, that sucks. ended up costing you some coin. with bovada they don't report anything.

Some dude at the track gave me even money odds on AP. I took his 50 and ran. It's no exacta, tri, and super but I'll take it. I didn't cash any of my tickets Tale of Verve ruined me as well. On to the Belmont.

Happy to win and not have to worry about it if I get audited. I'll take it.

Too much complaining about Verve, not enough about the RAIN!! Major props to Pharoah though, this horse takes whatever you throw at it and just shrugs it off.

I believe Tale of Verve was the most expensive horse in the race as he sold for 440k.

Also not sure how Offshores handle exotics since they aren't part of the parimutuel pool...do they just mimic the track payout? Do they cap it at some point?

I'll stick with Spires or Xpressbet for ponies...sure you get stuck with taxes on big wins but the income is legal and I know I'll have no issue collecting a 5 figure win

Good news is that the Belmont should be loaded.
It's always full of lurkers waiting to spoil a possible triple crown.
Don't understand this thinking when horse racing could use a triple crown winner.
You don't understand why a horse owner would want to win a race and make money?
They can still win if they ran in the other 2.
The Belmont is a mile and a half and the horses typically go balls to the walls. There's a sound strategy to giving your horse 5 weeks off between the KD and the Belmont. It freshens them up while you let the other horses tire themselves out. These aren't race cars. They are three year old animals and they get tired. They also have personalities, just like your pet dog. Getting beat in a race can sometimes negatively impact a top tier horse that is used to winning. Winning a triple crown SHOULD be hard. The horses that pull it off should be special. I have no problem with an owner/trainer who wants to skip the Preakness. None. They don't care about a triple crown - you do. They DO care about earnings and future stud fees. It's their investment, they should get the highest ROI possible.
I bet lots of people quit caring about the Belmont if there is no chance of a triple crown. Spread the races out more then if running every 2 weeks for everyone is to hard.
Horse racing is steeped in tradition. It isn't changing because some of us are so hell bent on seeing a triple crown winner. There's a reason why being a triple crown winner is so special. Cheapening the high cost and achievement to become one isn't what horse racing needs nor wants. I'll watch the Belmont regardless of whether or not we might see a TC winner, but I'm a horse racing fan. I'd be furious if changes were forced upon this sport to appeal to the casual fan.
Steeped in tradition? They didn't always run these races in 5 weeks. I think it was changed in the late 60s. Then you had 3 winners in around 10 years. That's when most owners realized they didn't have the horses to do that and started to skip. Edited to add: You right, they have a right to make money.

Well, I wasn't close on that. Ugly. Glad to hear some of you scored. The slop really affected the race.

It's going to be interesting to see the speed lined up in the Belmont. I think Baffert wants AP to try and wire 'em. I think it's his best chance.

Sportsbook:

American Pharoah -105

Frosted +400

Materiality +700

Carpe Diem +1800 (Derby favorite, right?)
Mubtaahij +1800

Keen Ice +2000

Tale of Verve +3500

That's about half of the field....which SB has at 12 horses now. Probably just put $5 to win on every horse but Pharaoh and $10 on Frosted. Or something. I don't know.
