*Official 2016 Philadelphia Eagles* - The year of Change (1 Viewer)

and i tell you what else is really old. The whole "philly fans booing" shtick. I must have heard/seen that story 4-5 times today about "Eagles fans booing Wentz at the airport". Yes, 10-15 idiots bothering Carson as soon as he gets off the plane is very representative of the city and an entire fanbase. sports media should stop going for click-bait and try to be a little more responsible with their craft.

No offense to anyone here, but anybody over the age of 15 who waits for an autograph, and gets pissed because the kid doesn't want to be bothered immediately, would seem to have other problems in their lives.

love to know who is responsible for bringing this kid in. Maybe this is what happens when the Eagles do not elect to go with a personnel guy and let Howie figure the draft out? Kid really sounds like a piece of ####, better have out of this world talent
I would like to think a majority of people would overlook tweets like that from a 17 year old.

I was concerned with the other incident until I read that there wasn't evidence to suggest he was guilty of any wrongdoing.

Just have to hope the kid has his #### together.

I havent seen the story, but Ive seen enough fluff pieces about fans turning up at airports to cheer and welcome new draftees that Id expect one getting booed getting off the plane to be news in any city.

Every city has its nut cases, but usually they get drowned out by the regular fans.

Within 2 years, Eagles will have the best QB in the NFC East and might start owning the division again for another 15 years until around 2030 or so.

its interesting that a guy who has had several epic 4th quarter come from behind victories in big games in his college career (Wentz) wound up in the same division with Tony Romo, who is pretty much is polar opposite in the NFL.

I sure hope so after all we paid to get him!

Just as likely to bust though...I hate moving up like that. I get it, but I still hate it

Overall seems like a solid draft for us, assuming Wentz doesn't bust. Not a fan of Smallwood, but I can see what they might have seen in him.

Loved the lineman picks where we got them.

A little nervous on the character ??? later in the draft. A rookie head coach doesn't need to have too many low character guys to have to watch and worry about.

Alrighty then.

Probably half won't make the team and either way they are not make or break guys.  Not like it's tunsil coming to morning film sessions with his gas mask on.

6th and 7th rounders. If they don't have their #### together, they're gone.

I didn't see it live but apparently Rich Eisen brought it up on the NFLN broadcast today.  Mike Mayock stood up for Philly telling him that was a gratuitous cheap shot at Eagles fans. 97.5 played the audio clip this afternoon.  Good for Mayock.

Actually thought he was an intriguing prospect that was flying under the radar. Did very well at the combine and was touted as possibly the best pass-catching RB in this class. After seeing this though, I'm staying away. Maybe I'll spend a 4th on him or pick him up in leagues where he goes undrafted, but I'm no longer interested in spending a 3rd on him like I was before reading this. Guy seems to be a true POS.

That seems awfully judgmental based on what, a few tweets he made as a 17-year-old kid? Really? I'm pretty sure homosexuals freaked me out at that age too. Maybe he still has a bit of maturing to do. Seems overly harsh to hammer him with a "POS" label.

That is a really narrow frame, though, no?  I guess he is projected as LB?
I think the plan would be for him to be your 4th DE and in on strictly passing downs for this season. You have to see how much weight you could get on him.

After looking at our depth more and more unless one of these guys has a relapse with the stupid stuff or just REALLY suck they're all making the team this year.

A long article, but a breakdown of the UDFA:

The first batch of undrafted rookies includes defensive end Aziz ####tu of Stanford, defensive end Connor Wujcizk, running back Byron Marshall of Oregon and wide receiver Hunter Sharp of Utah State, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, Rutgers linebacker Quentin Gause, according to NJ.com, cornerback C.J. Smith of North Dakota State, according to Shane Hallam of About.com, and Washington State defensive tackle Destiny Vaeao, according to the Sea Times.

Also agreeing to contract terms are Valdosta State running back Cedric O’Neal, Incarnate Word linebacker Myke Tavarres, according to his own Twitter (@MykeT14), West Virginia long snapper John DePalma, according to his own Twitter (@JDePalmaWVU87) and Maine center Bruce Johnson and Texas wide receiver Marcus Johnson.

####tu, who is 6-foot-2, 290 pounds, was a first-team all-Pac 12 pick this past year and was named Rose Bowl Defensive MVP after recording eight tackles, including 3 ½ for loss, and 1 ½ sacks, against Iowa. ####tu was a three-year starter at Stanford.

Wujciak, who is also 6-2, 290, was a first-team all-ACC pick with 12 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 4 ½ sacks this past season for Boston College, which ranked No. 1 in all of NCAA Division 1 in yards per game. Wujciak is a New Jersey native who played high school football at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange.

Sharp, who stands 6-foot, 200 pounds, was a second-team all-Mountain West Conference pick this year, caught 71 passes for 835 yards and nine touchdowns this past season and was 66-for-939 with seven TDs as a junior. He spent his first two years at Antelope Valley in Lancaster, Calif.

Gause, 6-foot, 230 pounds, finished second on the Scarlet Knights this past season with 96 tackles. He was a two-year starter, captain as a senior, and a four-year contributor on special teams. He was a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top scholar athlete in the country.

Marshall, 5-foot-10, 210 pounds, missed most of his senior year at Oregon with an ankle injury. But he averaged 6.1 yards with 19 TDs on 307 career rushes and caught 97 passes for 1,293 yards and eight more TDs. He also averaged 23.7 yards on 19 career kickoff returns. Marshall, recruited to Oregon by Chip Kelly, rushed for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore and had over 1,000 receiving yards as a junior.

Smith, 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, was a four-year starter at North Dakota State and part of four FCS national championship teams (and a fifth as a red-shirt). He was teammates at North Dakota State with Eagles first-round pick Carson Wentz. Smith was an all-Missouri Valley Conference first-team pick this past season with 16 pass knockdowns and four interceptions.

Vaeao, 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, is a native of American Samoa. He was a three-year starter at Washington State and made the all-Pac 12 second team this past season after recording 41 tackles with 12 tackles for loss and 4 ½ sacks. Played in 44 games, starting 35 in four-year varsity career.

O’Neal, 6-foot, 215 pounds, put up huge numbers on the Division ll level for Valdosta State, finishing with 4,145 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns. Ran for 1,198 yards as a freshman, 975 yards as a sophomore, 873 as a junior and 1,099 as a senior.

Tavarres, a 6-foot-2, 220 pounder, played only one year at Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio. Before that, he spent a year at Arkansas and then two years at College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif. This past season, he was a FCS All-America, with 110 tackles, 60 solos, 22 ½ for loss and 8 ½ sacks.

Johnson, 6-foot-3, 285 pounds, was the Rimington Trophy  winner this past season, giving annually to the best FCS center and named after Dave Rimington, who was the Eagles' starting center in 1988 and is considered the greatest center in college football history. He was a second-team All-America and did not miss a single snap the last three seasons.

DePalma, 6-6, 250 pounds, was a four-year long snapper for the Mountaineers and special teams MVP as a sophomore. He also made the Big 12 all-Academic team.

Johnson, 6-1, 195 pounds, caught 61 passes for 793 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons. He was limited to just six games this past year and 12 receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown. Best college game was 3-for-120 and a TD against Texas Christian in 2013. He was a teammate of Jordan Hicks for two years.

real hard to overlook witness intimidation over murder charges. evidence with that stuff is a lawyer game, i am inclined to think he isn't 100% innocent with it either. we will see, and i am not one with Chip about only taking kids who have clean records.

But there really is only a certain kind of person who gets witness intimidation charges. Plenty of people smoke dope and get DUIs, this is way above and beyond that

I don't know about that. Making a phone call to try to have a witness recant a story, while illegal, isn't as bad IMO as a DUI or something like that. I could understand if he jacked the witness up or hurt them but he just made phone calls. The charge sounds worse than the actual deed. They also said his cooperation was instrumental in securing the conviction of the actual murderer.

i deal with this stuff a lot. Really think witness intimidation is a guy calling someone and asking to recant a story? I hope he works out too, and i guess if Ray Lewis can stab and kill a guy outside a nightclub maybe this kid can do something too. But i for one will have a hard time cheering for him.

Mo, I am sure we will hear plenty about this through Philly media in the coming weeks and months. Why don't you put away your Jump To Conclusions Mat for now and wait till all the facts are presented before we get out the torches and pitchforks, mmmkay?

I assumed there may be a threat in there as well but that's all the police reported. Are you suggesting he did hurt the kid? Smallwood was in West Virginia calling Wilmington, DE.

In my line of work I have also encountered plenty of individuals guilty of witness intimidation. It can have a pretty broad definition depending on the state laws. It could mean making threats, but it could also mean trying to convince someone of an alternate explanation. Sometimes people don't even realize they've committed this crime. I don't know what exactly this kid did, but I'm willing to cut him some slack in the absence of further evidence - especially considering the charges were dropped.

Considering the over abundance of DAs looking to make a name for themselves by slamming a high profile Div 1 athlete on frivolous charges, and the fact that charges were dropped, and he was promoted to team captain, and made the face of WV football...I hope he has an inherent feel for blitz pickup to go with his receiving skill from the RB position.

Strongly and vehemently disagree. A DUI can be a poor decision made while drunk, or a maturity thing.

Witness tampering is most definitely on a whole different level...because it means he that not only did he want a murderer to get off, but that he was close enough to that murderer to actually get involved. This more than implies an entirely different and much darker sort of persona.

Now....he could well be completely innocent and the charges were rightfully dropped, but let's not pretend that this isn't a big deal or a HUGE potential red flag

#Eagles 7th-Rder DE A. McCalister's short shuttle (4.00) was faster than any every player in last 5 years. 128'' broad in 91st pctile in same span

Anyone else mildly surprised they didn't pick up a fullback, even as a UDFA? Seems like an important piece of the offense. Are they really that impressed with that Ex-Chargers converted linebacker?

Good interview. Thre is a lot of negativity as usual with the Wentz move but I'm on board. If they think it's wahts needed, why not embrace it? Wentz is certainly someone to get behind and I like this transparency with Howie. He knows this is on him and he's not passing the buck. I'm excited!
His championship game was on today and I DVR'd it. Im going to watch it later on tonight.

I watched it.  The kids pocket awareness and ability to make throws on the run/off his back foot really impressed me.  He has such a nice release and just kind of flicks the ball effortlessly down the field.  When he really steps into one there isn't a throw he can't make.  Love his ability to tuck it and run if nothings there.  He definitely has the same kind of tools that you see in the elite QBs (specifically Rodgers).

Was at this game in person plus many other games of his.

One thing to keep in mind with this game is its his first back after his wrist injury. It wasn't his best game and he still was able to lead his team to the championship.

I'm all aboard committing this  team to Wentz.

I'm nearly at halftime and didn't realize how big a prospect he was. The announcers were gushing all over him the entire time so far.

It may be a little thing but I love how hype he gets when they score.

I saw a throw in one of the highlight packages where he threw a deep out, flat, from the far college hash.  That's some serious ####.

Take a look at the Greg Cosell / Fran Duffy breakdowns on the Eagles website.  Cosell is $$ and you should listen to him whenever you can.

Edit: The biggest thing you're looking for in terms of arm strength in a QB isn't long throws as such, it's drive throws, throws that have to be flat but still relatively deep.  Deep outs, deep comebacks etc. is where below average arm strength shows up.

From a news story I just read, Wentz on what he knows about Bradford

"Yeah I've seen him play a little bit. Obviously I know he was a top pick and everything, not too many years ago, and obviously I know he was with the Rams and everything, and now here.

"But you know, I haven't watched a ton of film on him. I watched a lot of film on guys like Brady and Manning and Rodgers, those types of things. So I don't know as much as some of the other guys."
:lmao:

Burn.
