I actually completely disagree. same kind of concept of drafting Kolb when McNabb was doing very well, I think if you draft a QB it is all about opportunity. they set themselves up to not have to force their hand, but if at 8 or 13 one of those top 3 QBs falls that they really had an eye on I say they grab. who knows, you may not get better than top 20 for next 4-5 years and if that is the case you can really set a franchise back

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo calls Chase Daniel's contract with the Eagles a "backup/maybe starter deal."
Daniel signed a three-year deal that has a base value of $21 million, and could be worth up to $36 million through incentives. It makes him -- by far -- the highest paid "backup" quarterback in football, and perhaps sets up Daniel to get a legitimate chance to unseat the always-shaky Bradford in training camp. Daniel's contract contains $12 million guaranteed. Although Bradford has superior physical skills, Daniel has experience in new Eagles coach Doug Pederson's offense, and Garafolo reports Pederson "loves" Daniel. This will be a battle worth monitoring all spring and summer

Mo, don't hurt your shoulder patting yourself on the back on this one since it was kind of obvious. That aside, would you like to see these two duke it out in training camp, or prefer we trade Bradford and draft a QB to sit under Chase like McNabb/Pederson? (Not saying that's on the table...just curious what you'd like to see.)

me personally, I'd like Pederson and his coaching staff (who seem to be pretty QB savvy) to study and gather as much information from sources on potential long-term of both, and the "injury risk" associated with Bradford. If they come out of is saying they are 100% behind Sam and Daniel is simply a back-up, then let's see how it rolls.
That is the smart/educated approach. the fan in me would love to see an open competition in training camp and pre-season and make it clear to both QBs that it is a full on open competition and the QB they feel is better suited to run the offense they will. Then also ensure them a comfortable leash, but a leash nonetheless so that the Eagles can go to the other option if situations get dire (and I mean like Bradford's first game or 2, minus all the cheap yards grabbed by screen passes).

A bit of an enigma. Can make splash plays down sideline, and looks like a world beater, but disappeared for long stretches, and there were targets to be had in Oakland.
Would make an interesting 4th wideout. At his age, he is what he is, and looks like he'll never reach the potential he showed. But not a total bum.

That Bradham deal, being two years, and no numbers released, that's how you know it as cheap. My guess: 2 years 6 mill. Maaayybe 7 mill.

IMO Murray is just done. Moving him for anything is an accomplishment. If you feel he has something left than maybe it's a good deal for both
From what I've read in Miami no one thinks they made a good deal at all and they're baffled. I'm not as down on Maxwell as most and I'm curious to see him play in more of a zone defense with a good pass rush. I don't think he'll live up to his paycheck but he could be productive in the right system IMO

While the Murray deal is a contract dump I also like that I believe the pick we get gives us the 1st pick day 3 of the draft giving them time to assess who had slipped or deal the pick if another team loves a player still on the board. Hope they do better than the Barkley pick.

I think in the right system, Maxwell will be very good. He was not a great fit for Billy Davis's system, which needs 3 CB's with the cover skills of Deion Sanders.

So - looking at that Fleener and Allen contract, good thing Ertz was resigned this year. Those numbers are going to get worse next year... Jordan Reed's going to get 9+ mil a year easily.

if Daniel is starting by week 5 or 6 we still think it is a bad deal? personally i think Daniel was always a target for this team. What other situation has an assistant coach finally get a head coaching job who has worked with a back-up QB for a few years seeming to hit his stride and coming out to free agency.
Sure could have just been a coincidence wit their situations, but would have been really strange i think if Daniel signed up to be a back-up or even possible starter for another team with the Eagles having an unsettled Qb situation

Per a source with knowledge of the deal, the first $5.5 million installment of Bradford’s $11 million signing bonus isn’t due until March 18, 2016. The second is due on or before September 1, 2016. So the Eagles have yet to pay Bradford a penny; they could transfer his entire contract to a new team.
Even though the Eagles haven’t paid Bradford’s bonus, they’d be responsible for the full $11 million under their 2016 cap. But they would get a full credit for the money in 2017, allowing for the bonus money to essentially be carried over by a year. Besides, the move also would clear Bradford’s $7 million salary off the books, creating a net cap gain for 2016 of $1.5 million.
Again, a Bradford trade doesn't seem likely, but it is at least worth noting due to quarterback vacancies around the league. The Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers might be in the quarterback market.
For now, it seems like the Eagles will have Bradford and Daniel compete for the starting job. Bradford is the more experienced NFL player, but Daniel obviously has more familiarity with Doug Pederson's scheme. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out this summer.

Triumph? Put me in the can't comprehend group. We had a yard sale. Sold a bunch of stuff we didn't want and we didn't really care what it was actually worth or what we were getting in return. Now we have a clean basement and $18.32. Are we going to win more games as a result of these trades? I doubt it.

We moved from 13 to 8 by "cleaning out our basement" and no draft picks given. People can't comprehend how monumental that is.
That's the difference between landing a Luke Kuechley vs a Michael Brockers. We've dramatically increased the probability that we land a difference making player. And it cost us nothing.

Serious question though. Sam's contract seems very friendly to Denver. They don't have to commit longer than a year. They get a guy who could come in and presumably be no worse than Osweiler.Or Sam for the last pick in the first.

I'm sorry but moving Bradford does not affect the ability to compete in the next 2 years positively or negatively. If he's here, we probably go 8-8, 9-7. If he's gone, probably 7-9, 8-8. Either way, we're not winning a Super Bowl.
And fans don't show coaches the exit. Owners do. It takes an exceptional circumstance for him to fire a coach early.

We all understand that money talks and I like the moves that Howie made today. But if you compare the contract of Brooks vs Allen & McLeod vs Iloka it appears that we spent a lot more for similar talent.
I ask this because I would have chosen the only player in both of these options, and happened to save money to sign someone else as well.

I'll give you Iloka over McLeod. I was scratching my head when I saw that Cincy re-signed him for significantly less than we paid McLeod. What we don't know is just how motivated Iloka was to return to the Bengals - enough to grant them a hometown discount? Everything I'd read prior to this had McLeod rated lower than Iloka, but perhaps he is considered a better scheme fit by Schwartz.
But I'm going to have to disagree with you on the Brooks vs. Allen debate. I definitely think we signed the better player there, and thus had to pay more.

I disagree strongly. You think you'd be signing these nice, shiny new F/A without those trades? If so, with what cap space? They only had 17 mil before those deals.
Listen, I get that you think Maxwell and Murray are appreciably better than they played last year. That's fine, I disagree, but whatever. I think they CAN be better in a different scheme, but you're still trying to fit square pegs in round holes.
With Murray, I see the guy who caught lightning in a bottle and everything fell right. He'll never see the numbers he had in 2014 again. I'd bet my next mortgage payment on it. I said it before, I'll say it again: Giving big dollar contracts to RB's are a losing proposition.
With Maxwell, it's obvious to me he was a product of that awesome Seattle defense. Put him back in that defense or another elite defense like DEN or HOU and I'm sure he'd do fine. They don't have that in Philly.

Anyone care to speculate as to what the Eagles' plans are at the RB position? Reports have Mathews being very available, and for moderate compensation too. Wouldn't surprise me if Howie finds a taker now that the dust has settled a bit in the free-agent RB market. That leaves Sproles, whose $4.5M cap number is even higher than Mathews. Does he figure prominently into Pederson's plans for the offense? Is he a "pay cut or be cut" waiting to happen?
Is Howie especially enamored with the crop of RBs in the draft this year, or is he just looking to control costs at one of the NFL's most disposable positions? Most free agent backs left on the market should come at a discount - are the Eagles eyeing one as we speak? (I think Powell would be a great fit.)
Maybe there's really something to that KC trade speculation? This is one need that I don't think they can address by signing another former Bill.
