I saw Dallas signed Cedrick Thornton. Watched a few clips of him.  Looks like he stout vs the run and a good run stuffer, not much of a pass rusher. Am I warm?  Thoughts on Thornton please guys.

I will cry if Zeke is an Eagle. I would not be upset if Dallas took him at 4.

Thornton is a solid player. Sad to see him go. Great when he has studs around him. 

I don't see the Eagles going for Zeke.

I always liked Ced. He's not flashy but a good player overall and should do well. 

Zeke is going to be a monster. I'm not going to be mad if we walk away with an elite talent. At 8 that's what you want.

 
Ced is a solid defender. Much better vs the run than as a pass rusher. Seems out of place as a 4-3 DE tho. Was an UDFA, so I'm happy for him. 

 
Thornton was a reliable run stopper, but nothing special really. Probably more valuable in a 3-4. Would like to see the Birds add to their DL depth with an inexpensive signing. Jason Jones anyone?

Lurie isn't really the one I'm worried about...I do not trust Howie.  And I hope you and slider are right about Pederson, he's a good guy.

Big fan of this addition to the Eagles thread.  

Eagles fans are the best.  Most entertaining fans in sports.  (Not being a wiseguy here).

I'll agree that Brooks looks like a solid (if slightly expensive) signing that addresses an obvious need and gives them some flexibility in the draft. And its nice to see Howie taking control of the cap. But let's keep the expectations muted until we see a product on the field. Otherwise, I fear Roseman/Lurie will be pulling the plug on Pederson before he ever gets a chance to build something (which was my complaint with firing Chip as well).

Super Bowl or bust, IMO.

 
Howie claimed in the press conference that QB and S were the 2 positions in FA where the market seemed to be undervaluing the players, and that was part of why they made those signings (I guess).  It does seem like a lot of money for Daniel as a backup, and makes the QB situation curious (as has been discussed in here with the Bradford trade idea).  It really seems like Bradford has very little value, though, based on the contract he was willing to take.  I mean, I know Osweiler is younger, but that contract was kind of insane.

Jeff McLane also tried to bring up the idea that Howie was cleaning out Chip's players, in some very roundabout ways, and Howie got all pissed, saying Jeff was asking 3 different questions and not making sense, and moved on.  He knew exactly what Jeff meant, though Jeff should have just come out and said it.

IMO Murray is just done. Moving him for anything is an accomplishment. If you feel he has something left than maybe it's a good deal for both

From what I've read in Miami no one thinks they made a good deal at all and they're baffled. I'm not as down on Maxwell as most and I'm curious to see him play in more of a zone defense with a good pass rush. I don't think he'll live up to his paycheck but he could be productive in the right system IMO 

Kiko is crap. He probably won't make their team.

Beginning to wonder if the Eagles are looking to take Ezekiel Elliott at 8.   I've heard the Giants are keen on him, and perhaps the Iggles heard that too and decided to leap-frog Big Blue.

Not the worst that could happen.  Personally, to take a RB that high, he's gotta be special though, because it seems you can get production at RB in the later rounds.  Would rather them get Hargreaves or Stanley.

yeah, if there is one thing i think we can take from this time of year (right around free agency up until the draft) it is that coaches/teams are particularly shady with what they say to media and in public. still measuring value of players etc. Not saying this is what happened here because i have literally no clue, but if they were looking to get value for Bradford it wouldn't make sense to suggest it was an open competition. make teams think the Eagles value Bradford more so they have to give up more. 

 
and for me the most interesting team is Denver. I know teams have too much pride to allow other teams to take advantage of them, but no way they can sell tickets without having a QB back there. you can't win a Super Bowl and go less than .500 the following year. they have quite a few older players, can't really attempt a rebuild right now. if Fitz goes to NYJ, you would think there are a few teams that if the Eagles really felt moving Sam was a good idea they could probably get good value for. but it would be dangerous for Philly to go into the season with Daniel as starter and a rookie as the back-up

Not really. If he's average, we go 7-9, 8-8. Around where we thought with Bradford. If he sucks, then we will be in good position for a top QB next year. Not the end of the world if we suck this year.

If they're playing him at DE, that's odd.  He's a good DT, even back when we ran a 4-3, he could shed and penetrate a little bit, but doesn't have a burst after that 1st step and it was noticeable as a DT, so I'd have thought it would be even more of an obstacle to him as a DE.

He's special. Take a couple hours and just watch him. He has "it". 

I think Dallas and the Giants absolutely have to grab him if they can. Objectively speaking, both of those teams need to take pressure off of their QB's and he'd really help on all 3-downs.

Ya, I want to compete every season.  I don't like the idea of NEEDING to take a QB in the top of the first round.  Too many factors can affect it and you end up reaching for a guy like so many teams do.  Very rare that a qb needy team has a good one fall to them outside of the top 5, and I don't think we're a bottom 5 team next year.  IMO Sam is more then 0-1 wins better then Chase.  Even if it is one more win, that's likely the difference between playoffs and not.   Am actually excited with a healthy offseason for sam, the new coordinators, new OL/S signings and top 10 pick.  I see us at 8-9 wins but I don't think 10-11 wins is completely out of the question.

You have to remember it's still a rookie head coach with a whole new coaching staff. We're also switching back to a 4-3 again and implementing a brand new offense. There's going to be growing pains. Most new head coaches don't jump in and win.  

I'm expecting no better than 8-8 with Bradford (which would be Sam's best season record wise). I also don't think NYG, Dal and Wash are going to be as bad as people think. One of them will improve. Dallas was 12-4 two seasons ago with a healthy Romo and a running game. If they take Elliot, it could be huge for them.

All I'm saying is that most people have the Eagles in the 7 to 9 win area. I don't think that's playoff bound.  So if Sam gets us the 32nd pick, hell yea. Let's do that and establish a solid base for Doug to build from.

 
Zero chance that Bradford goes for Denvers 1st, maybe their 2nd.  Teams still buy on upside and my guess is that Denver will feel that Kaep or RG3 have more upside and will be cheaper than Bradford.

And that's the beauty of moving to 8. We're going to get a highly rated player guaranteed. Doesn't mean they'll turn into a great player but we will get someone who is rated as a stud.

You mean at least 3 will be there.  And if you add Ramsay in there who would be our dream at #8 but likely long gone, then at least 4 of your list would be there.

Some of those guys will likely be there at 13 too though.  I think Conklin, Treadwell and Lawson are reaches and kind of give up the advantage of even trading up to 8.

 
Going to be interesting now at QB.  I think there's a decent chance that Goff or Wentz drops to us at 8... but can we possibly take him there?   If we're taking a QB in the top 10, he needs to at least be #2 on the depth chart.  Assuming Sam isn't traded, there's no way Chase becomes a #3 with that contract.  If we take a QB at 8 and Sam stays, do we try to trade Chase for a 7th?

You can make him 3rd just because of what you said.  That's a position that has to be fixed and I'm all for throwing mud at the wall and hoping something sticks.  History would suggest Sam is going to miss time so at some point, possible for multiple weeks, and they'll be your #2 QB.  If you want to get a QB early you want him to have time to develop.  We could provide that.

 
A conditional 2017 7th rounder and 4.5 (3.5 if he was cut--Well done Howie) off the books.  What other CB's are out there?

Which was also a joke.  Doubt any kind of condition will get us anything more then a 6th for him.  Still fantastic trade.

It just doesn't happen anymore where you invest in a top 10 qb and he's not starting pretty quick.  As a 3rd qb, you develop a lot less then a 2nd qb.  Practice reps are huge and most of the coaches time will go into Sam/Chase.  I just can't see us having 18 and 7 million/year qb's on the team and investing such a huge valuable pick there.  He won't get the reps and attention he needs to become the starter in a year which is what you need to have happen if you draft a qb at 8.

I like the idea of taking one of those two but only if Sam or Chase is gone.

I guess it depends on what you see as quick.  If they got one of them, quick could be as soon as next year.  It could even be this year if Sam misses extended time and Daniel isn't any good.  Both Sam and Daniel's deals could be termed after this season

I'm okay with grooming him for next year.  But when you drop 25 mill per year into your top 2 qbs, you don't really see them as a 1 year thing and start grooming the third guy.  I just think a top 8 QB HAS to be at least the backup or fighting for a backup role to get the reps.  Chase is the CLEAR backup (or maybe even starter according to some).  Can't have him as a third qb when he would probably start in Denver.
