Uh huh. But if you have the cajones/degeneration X to lay :moneybag:  on each game they ALL become "meaningful".  and life becomes more FUN?\>

He's at a perfect spot.  Mid-major with some money behind it, unusual arena with a huge home-court advantage, access to top jucos and a known safe haven for miscreant transfers.  He's paid very well for a mid-major and is in a sweet spot where moving up to a Big XII or SEC program would mean 30-40% more money with 300-400% more headaches.

He makes around $3.7 MILLION at Wichita State. He's not getting 30-40% more than that anywhere. Hell, there are only a few places that would even match that.

How many times have they fallen down for no real reason trying to draw a foul call...they have to have a drill for that crap in practice

So my 76 year old dad has always HAAAATED North Carolina.  He always felt Dean Smith was arrogant and UNC was priveleged.  He was asking me the other day why I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Duke. "Because Dad, since I was in Junior High they have been the home of over-priveleged white kids." "They HAVE?" "Yeah: Laettner.  Hurley.  Cherokee Parks.  Wojo.  Chris Collins.  And now this trippin ##### bag they have now." "........hmm... I never thought of it that way."

Thanks!  I keep forgetting that Self's contract isn't comparable with other power conference jobs.  He's one of the top-paid guys in all of D-I sports.

IIRC, Marshall's agent put out feelers for power conference jobs, then went back to Wichita State and asked for a raise.  Koch family (yes, that Koch family - they never left Wichita; the basketball arena is named after them) decided they wanted him to stay and showed up at the athletic department office with a dump truck full of money.

No reason at all to leave then.  None.  I mean I have no idea where he went to school or what connections he has to any other program, but that would be a hard sell.  Like you said, good home court advantage, you're gonna win 25 games every year even in down years, and you are making about as much as the top tier coaches with a fraction of the pressure.  There really is something to be said about that. 

Also as an aside, when Howard Schnellenberger was at OU he'd show up in his robe at the bar in the early afternoon and he and his wife would just walk out of restaurants without even attempting to pay.  He resigned after one season and it wasn't because they had a losing record in his first year, it was because the community told him and his wife to pound sand. 

 
Totally flashing back on Frank Martin's best K-State teams watching South Carolina play: every halfcourt basket feels like total luck, play defense like they have relatives held hostage who will be killed if they give up a layup.
