Easily the worst game he's playedI really like Schoop. But boy did the lapses in his usually outstanding defense cost them 3 runs last night.
Oh well. On to the next one.
Wasn't loving it after he hit into that bases loaded Double Play, but he turned a great DP of his own and hit the game-changing 2-run HR. Went to the game on a whim last night - mostly to get the Manny-Schoop Handshake T-shirt for my daughter, who's out of town - and had one of the great nights of the year. Big crowd, beautiful hot summer night, a few cold ones, and a walk-off HR.I really like Schoop. But boy did the lapses in his usually outstanding defense cost them 3 runs last night.

I think they had final arguments a while ago and they are waiting for the ruling.Good win last night - got my split from my two teams. But this team is simply not made to go that far it feels. Just doesn't seem to have the feeling.
Of course, you find a way to get into the tourney and anything can happen.
BTW, where does the lawsuit stand re the Nats
This August has apparently been heavy on waiver claims, with one general manager telling Peter Gammons of GammonsDaily.com that he’s never seen this many claims made. “The Orioles seemingly claim everyone,” said the unnamed GM. Of course, Baltimore has yet to pull off any deals this month (or end up being awarded any claimed contracts).
Blocking seems like the logical response to the tightness of the AL WC raceInteresting blurb on mlbtraderumors.com

The Orioles are still rotating through left fielders. They could use another middle infielder with Hardy on the DL and not hitting all year. And they could always use a bat or a starting pitcher. I think the Orioles could legitimately claim most players and really want them if the team just let them go.Blocking seems like the logical response to the tightness of the AL WC raceInteresting blurb on mlbtraderumors.com

I think this all the time. Even 5-8 and they're now tied for the Wild Card. At any rate, I'm happy to see them make a run at it, even if it's a futile end to a disappointing season. Great drama at Nats Park last night.Man, if they just could've gone 6-7 instead of 1-12 during that awful stretch they'd be right in the thick of it.
“Retaliation?” Orioles Manager Buck Showalter said, mock-serious, before the game. “No, that’s not allowed. You’re not supposed to do that. The best retaliation would be to win another game, right?” So they did. Now the Nats are, statistically, closer to clinically playoff dead — both under 1 percent — as the O’s.
One thing is clear. Papelbon hitting Machado didn’t go down too well with some of his own mates. Whatever the right amount of “fight” may be, throwing at anybody’s head — or giving the appearance of it — isn’t the Nats way.
As soon as Machado was hit, Toronto ace left-hander David Price tweeted: “Haha. Wow. Baltimore runs onto field. . . . Nationals stay at their positions . . . looked funny. I’m pretty sure I know what that means.”
His inference: The Nats either didn’t support their teammates or, more likely, specifically didn’t support Papelbon.
On Thursday, even General Manager Mike Rizzo volunteered the Machado side of the issue, saying he thought the duel between Scherzer and Machado might have been “the best at-bat of the year” at Nationals Park.
He mentioned how Scherzer stalks the mound and how Machado matched his intensity. In other words, does great competition, which somebody must lose, mean that another pitcher throws near the winner’s head?
My daughter's travel softball team played in Glen Burnie over the weekend. Her team won the tournament. So it wasn't all bad.Man was yesterday a totally crappy day in Baltimore sports. I don't mind losing but I do hate it when sports are so bad that they actually make me feel a little worse about my life, rather than provide a fun escape.
On the bright side, I do have Steve Smith in fantasy football.
Throw in the Terps debacle on Saturday and the Os getting swept............ The whole weekend sucked sports-wise.Man was yesterday a totally crappy day in Baltimore sports. Great posting. Except you forgot to say "From a Platinum Glove 3B who can play SS in his age 22 season."Dissappointing season, but hardly a washout, and at least we had most of the season with relevance.
Manny is going on sending a message, IMO. His insistence on playing all 162, and just ramping it up for this final stretch of games.
Heck, 35? From a 3B who can play SS?
It should help some. It's not like Angelos is in the poor house. But MASN needs to be profitable on its own, which the Nationals don't really care about. The decision will mean more money for Angelos. How much of it ends up on the field remains to be seen.
An additional $31 million and guaranteed income until 2037 doesn't hurt either.I dunno, seems like the O's may have overpaid here.Os sign Davis. It's funny how having a couple of weeks to think about the contract offer and other players available made me doubt wanting him back. Oh well. I hope it doesn't hurt us signing Machado long term.
Agreed. Rumors are that they may not be finished. Not sure what that means. I know it's only one year, but that unexpected $15mm to Weiters is relevant. Plus no draft pick for him leaving.Thinking they would have been better off with Upton or Cespedes.
There was an interesting article on camdenchat.com. If you ignore the payments beyond 7 years, the deal is $119M for 7 years. Although I cannot buy into just ignoring the other payments, $3.5M in 2025 may not have much impact on payroll then.Late to the party. Glad Davis is back, don't like the price we paid to bring him back.
