I kind of giggled when Modric went out for the coin flip for PK's, won it, and then had a deer in the headlights look when he realized he had no idea what he was suppose to choose and then had to scream to his bench :)

You’re one of those guys who makes his free throws out back and thus think you would make them in an nba game aren’t you?
It's just a ### #### free throw!  No one's even guarding them!  They get paid millions for this!!

Population of remaining countries

Croatia = 4.16 million

Belgium = 11.5 million

England = 66.4 million

France = 65.2 million

United States Population = 326.7 million
To put this in some perspective, Split is the 2nd largest city...it has 180k or so residents.  The airport has 10 gates.  Sibenik is the 12th largest town (hometown of Drazen Petrovic)...it has 45k or so people.  They have a world class water polo pool and one of the best sailing/rowing schools in the world.

The only reason they are competitive in anything is they one of the tallest populations on average and they all have tempers (this is where you hoodlums point out Modric is midget).

Order of preference:
Belgium, Croatia, France

Now that Russia is out, what are the lines on what country Russia will push into once the Cup is over?  You know, since they seem to do that after hosting international events.

I’m pretty stoked about this quartet.
Me too. Picked BEL and FRA to win pre tourney and laid a bit of cash on them. I think they’re the two best teams remaining.

My preference to win CRO > BEL > FRA > ENG

Who I think will win: FRA > ENG > BEL > CRO (BEL/ENG a toss up but tie goes to ENG due to easier path)

I would bet there are zero pre-tournament brackets that did not have at least one out of Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Portugal, in their final 4.

My rooting interests:

I like all the teams.  I am primarily rooting for Spurs players - so I'd like to see England win it.

But, all the teams are fun to watch.  Belgium might be the most complete team, but France is no slouch, and I love watching Modric and Rakitic run the midfield for Croatia.

If I took off my Spurs glasses, I would probably want to see a Belgium v. Croatia Final - see a first-time winner.

I’m pulling for England because we both speak American and it’s the closest thing to the US winning the cup.

Same for me, except for the Spurs/England part. France v Belgium is a compelling game, with the tournament’s two best players in Hazard and Kante going head to head. I don’t care who wins that one though, while I’m hoping for Croatia to beat England. It would be nice to see a final between two nations that have never won it.

Wouldn’t be unhappy with any of these teams winning. Guess I am going for England as it would be a cool story and they were only .4% less than Germany in my 23 and me profile.

(France was the same but they recently-ish won one)

Of all the England players, McGuire has really impressed me.  Possibly because I knew the least about him of any player who has played.

33 – Harry Maguire has won more aerial duels than any other defender at World Cup 2018

Obviously his Irish roots.

ETA: I mentioned his forward & impressive play backthread aways... @Christo and I actually agreed on something. Bookmark it.  It won't happen again.
