Journalists attended the first 15 minutes of Brazil's training session and then were asked to leave. Players' entourages were allowed to stay, though. And here comes the best part: one of Gabriel Jesus' pals posted an Instagram story and revealed Tite's XI for WC debut. Congrats

They're called apostles

Yeah, this Spain thing is amazing. Hope they promote one of the assistants only for him to immediately announce that he to will be joining the staff at Real after the tournament.

I get that taking another job like a month after negotiating an extension was a weak move, but this is pretty much the definition of cutting your nose to spite your face for Spain.
RFEF is always crazy

Will someone please explain why the Spanish coach announcing his next job merited him getting fired?

He just signed an extension with Spanish Federation.

Spanish Federation has a rule that while under contract you can not talk to another team with out them being informed.

Coach not only did not tell them he was in talks , he signed with Real Madrid and then told the Spanish Fed 5 minutes before the announcement.

The American sports analogy would be a guy like Johnny Orr or Bret Bielema

I would expect the fact that he joined Real Madrid to also be a factor, given the numerous Barca players on the team.  Not that those players were behind this or anything, but just that his status as a Real Madrid manager puts him at odds with the Barcelona players.

Liverpool looking to sign her
thankfully Spurs passed.  Still to be determined: the wisdom of signing Jack Grealish instead.

Having said that, Shaqiri can be good in spurts - just can't see him fitting in a starting role on any team that wants to press a lot.

He's not being bought to start. That might be why he won't sign though.

That's what I'm thinking. Does he maximize his value playing part time for a good team or all the time for a mid-table team?
I think the Premier League is too physical for a player like Shaqiri to shine.  He's probably better off playing in France or Spain.

Any good on-line fantasy contests?  Would like to see one where you can pick players.  Recall McDonalds was affiliated with one several years ago.

TIA

The World Cup has officially started.  As measured by first glimpse of a commercial hosting dozens of American athletes from non-soccer sports, watching soccer, as if that will somehow drum up interest in the sport from US sports fans.

Also, what's up DirecTV?   I had to go manually select every game to record rather than have it work with the series option?

I’m ten pages behind on the thread and a week late on getting the drinking guide out - my apologies to you all.  As has been the case for the last few tournaments please posts some drinks for the 32 teams - especially those that have not made an appearance in a recent tournament.  Have placeholders for beer, wine, liquor and mixed drink for each country.

@Ramsay Hunt Experience

@Jaysus

@The Gator

@Sweatpants Boner Man

Should have it posted tonight in time for the first game.

The England team visited an orphanage in Russia yesterday.

"Its heartbreaking to see those poor faces with no hope" said Vladimir, aged 6.
