***Official*** 2018 World Cup thread (and Drinking Guide) (3 Viewers)

Think I figured out what it is about Messi's game that I don't like. He's the soccer equivalent of Duke basketball, in that he draws a lot of fouls where other players seemingly don't.  Maybe the same can be said about a lot of players, but it seems like he gets away more with just putting his head down and barreling toward the goal than most.

Also, my BIL is so in the tank for the guy and hates Ronaldo so much that I want to see him fail more often than I should.

Oof, the ultimate insult.

You need to watch him more.

I know, right?

I'm still new enough to following the game that I've sort of cut my teeth on Messi, so maybe it's a function either of how his style has changed over the years, or I'm just noticing more of the little things than I did when I first started watching.  Either way, I started turning on him during the Copa Ameria 2 years ago, where it seemed that most of his possession involved trying to draw a foul to set up amazing free kicks.  I give him all the credit in the world for his speed and his ability to convert free kicks, but when you live and die by the ref's whistle, you lose a little credibility in my book.

It's also because of him that I became a fan of Ozil, and remain so despite his play for Germany.

Yeah, this is incredibly inaccurate
