***Official*** 2018 World Cup thread (and Drinking Guide) (1 Viewer)

It's pretty amazing.  My best friend is a fluent french speaker and a huge belgium fan from his time there growing up.  Was asking if I'd watch the quarterfinal with him on delay.  Not a chance
Le football c'est fou! Let football c'est beau!. Le football c'est la mere du ned!

I thought Kagawa had a really strong game with his hold up play and distribution, he showed he was a big timer who belonged on the field. I didn't know much about Meunier despite him playing for PSG, who I didn't watch much this past season, but I was really impressed with how smooth he was out on the wing. Every touch soft and quick.

As much as he talked about organized crime running the domestic league, I won't be surprised if this is the last article he ever writes.

And yeah, it makes me feel much better about our own issues, though I imagine if we ever get up the hill, the same kind of corruption will be waiting for us.

I wonder how may people filtering into the stadium for the Sweden v Switzerland match bough tickets KNOWING Germany would be playing.

Also, it was mentioned earlier that no goals have been scored by Bayern players.  True, but I do enjoy when former Bayern players score.  Right now that's Kroos, Mandzukic and Shaqiri ... I think that covers it.

It’s hard to watch. I’ve enjoyed the tournament but dang.
You should bail, gb. If you watched *** vs Bel -considered by soccer and timekeeping afficionado woz to be the best game of soccer ever played- and complaining about diving is all you came away with, you should absolutely ditch as there's no hope for you ever enjoying the sport.

No kidding.

I watched the replay last night again after watching some at work yesterday, and I kept looking for things that the Japan team did wrong to let Belgium back into this thing. And to my eyes, they did everything right.

They didn't play scared after the two goal lead.

They didn't completely bunker in and just absorb shot after shot. They actually still played the game, which I admire the hell out of.

Belgium got one completely lucky goal to give them hope.

Both teams just played their hearts out - Japan to show heart to get that lead, Belgium to show heart by not giving up, then Japan showing heart to attack and try and win the game in regulation instead of playing for PK's, and then the incredible run by Belgium for that goal.

That game had it ALL. Incredible.

There's definitely some empty seats.

Surprised it’s his decision to make. The DFB doesn’t easily suffer that level of failure.
He followed JK's plan and signed his new deal before the WC started.  The DFB would have had to eat 4.5 years of what I assume is a fairly huge contract.

My guess is they will see how the Euro's go and if another disaster occurs they will make the change then.

After Grondona died, the AFA decided to try and clean up its act and hold its first democratic election. The contestants were Marcelo Tinelli, who vowed to oust the old Grondona acolytes, and Luis Segura, the continuity candidate. 75 officials were given a vote but the result was a miracle not even Messi could produce, a tie. 38 votes apiece in a 75-vote election, it was simply the latest embarrassment for a discredited organisation that would eventually elect Segura as president.
Impressive

My new least favorite soccer player is the doubledouche that bleaches his hair before a big game.

ETA: Unless Neymar does it again, then I reserve the right to change my mind.
