The Weber situation and ones like it sucks for everyone. One recruiter shouldn't be so tied to one recruit. I admit I don't know all the rules though. Recruits should be committing to the school not the recruiter. And by school I don't necessarily mean education first. Your committing to the program. You don't see Elliot transferring because Drayton is leaving. If he really wants out, send him far away, or to UM, who cares. They have a better recruit targeted next year anyways.

And to those HS coaches threatening that garbage, go ahead cost your kids the chance to play at one of the best programs in the nation. You shouldn't strive to look like the bigger fool.

It's easy for us to say as outsiders looking in. All valid talking points, but none really rooted in reality. These are 17-18 year old kids getting pulled in a ton of different directions by a ton of different people. And I doubt many of those doing the pulling really care about the individual as much as they care about their job/program. The college coaches know that and act as they choose. I don't know why folks would lash out at the HS coaches protecting the kids they've coached for the better part of 4 years. Some of these guys are like "dads" to some of these guys.

I don't deny there is some suckage for Weber. All sides in this are in a bad position, I'd say we agree there. But if the sole reason he chose osu is for his position coach then he's not doing it right and is getting some bad guidance from "dad". I'd venture to say Drayton is selling a thousand more things about the program and school then about himself.Good "dads" don't tell their kids you can't go here or there for school. We will disagree about shutting the door on a place a kid might want to go. I'm sure there is a little bias going on here as well.

I doubt he did it soley for the position coach. That's a strawman argument that no one is making. It seems quite logical to be upset that the guy you grow closest to during recruiting up and leaves without telling you. To the last part, I'm not sure what any of that means. My position is that a good "dad" is there to give advice on situations and protect them where they know there is harm to be suffered. That includes both positive and negative experiences in recruiting. I don't know why that's "biased". My position on this is well documented where similar things have happened well before this one. It was the same then as it is now. You can go to the recruiting thread and look at the Bobby P incident recently, or the football thread when similar things happened at Alabama etc

The "dad" stuff is simply this... one wouldn't close the doors on anything with your kid. Give them advice, whatever. Wilcher was big in helping Weber decommit from Michigan when the train was burning, so I'm not sure I buy that angle all that much. At least that's what Weber said in his comments of support from his HS coaching staff.

Nobody's saying it's right, but it's something that happens frequently. To deny other kids what could be a great opportunity based on a kids feelings getting hurt is pretty dumb.

Na...not at this point. If it kept happening, I can't say I'd blame him for cutting ties. And by cutting ties, I mean not encouraging his players to entertain offers from certain schools, not forbidding them from going to said schools. I'm not even sure they're allowed to do that.

I posted the link in a previous post. If you want to try and interpret it in some other way so be it. I can only think of one logical conclusion as to why Weber thought he was the only RB being recruited by Harbaugh. Which is why his little quote is idiotic. I like this though. Been a good while since things got squirrely between the teams.

Right...this is what I was referring to in my post about him being surprised. Him thinking something vs Harbaugh being accused of something are two different things IMO. It's clear to anyone watching that Michigan needed a RB in this class. Did Weber actually believe that if he didn't pick Michigan there wasn't a backup plan on Michigan's side? I suppose that's possible. I don't see the two incidents being similar enough to be a "but your team is doing it too" comparison. There were plenty of RBs out there with offers from Michigan, to think they weren't serious seems a bit odd to me. Not to mention the fact that the one that did accept was offered really late in the process.

Was reading that the SEC has a rule that a coach can't do this outside of 50 miles of his school. Doesn't appear that the other conferences have that. Wonder why they have that rule and I wonder why the SEC coaches are focused on the NCAA doing something rather than their conference.

So, a total of three signings over the weekend. QB, RB and LB. I don't know what will come of Shane but he SEEMS to be the perfect illustration of the filtration of a football player as they move from one level to the next.

I was wondering how the 15 QB approach was going to affect recruiting. Love this kid's answer:

“I know there are a bunch of quarterbacks there right now, but that doesn’t stop me. You’re just going to have to go there and you’re going to have to compete and earn a spot. That’s fine with me. I love to compete. Also at the same time, it is a special opportunity to play for Coach Harbaugh. I think things are going to really start going in the right direction and I really want to be a part of it. I loved it there. The atmosphere was awesome. The fans are awesome as well.”
