Tennessee is going full Ole Miss.  They are likely getting Quavaris Crouch and they are getting Aubrey Solomon as well.

This would be classified as a big miss.....

From 2003 to 2007 Florida safeties coach Ron English served as the defensive backs coach (03-05) and defensive coordinator (06-07) at the University of Michigan. During a recent interview with The Michigan Insider to preview Saturday’s Peach Bowl match-up between the Wolverines and Gators, English reflected upon some noteworthy recruiting misses during his time in Ann Arbor. In part one he recapped the story of how Michigan passed on NFL All Pro wide receiver Desean Jackson.

Ron English on getting Michigan in at Long Beach Poly: “Lloyd retired, but it kind of worked liked this… when you got in there, you were in there. We would've had a pipeline to Poly because the next year they had a couple of guys that went to Miami and stuff like that. Where I was, they were trying to send me people. (Former Michigan defensive back and Long Beach Poly alum) Donovan Warren… I knew the dad was the guy, and I think that what happened was, too, it was a fit. It was really a fit… his personality was a fit for Michigan. And that dad, I knew of course some people that he knew and all that stuff. I still do. I had a place in Long Beach. At the time, I was so entrenched in California recruiting because I was into it at that time. It's amazing. I was thinking about this, you turn down DeMarco Murray (from Vegas)… we turned down DeMarco Murray. DeMarco Murray would've come to Michigan.

Sam Webb: So you could’ve have DeMarco Murray. You could’ve had another “De.” You could’ve had Desean Jackson (from Long Beach Poly). Now he was really ready to come.

Ron English on DeSean Jackson: “I'm telling you DeMarco Murray was done. That would've been done. This is the deal with (DeSean Jackson). I go into Poly, and this is before we got Warren, so I'm still fighting. ‘Just give me one guy.’ At the time SC had a stranglehold. Nobody… I'm saying not one person that was elite was leaving Poly to go anywhere else but USC. So I go by there and I know there is this lady who is like the football academic advisor / team-mom / mom / everything named Miss Kim. Miss Kim was who you had to get to. The players loved her and depended on her and all that stuff. So I spent two, three years… every time I go there, I hang out with Miss Kim for an hour every time. I'm talking about all her players and where they're going and I'm just so happy for them, this and that. Now, I go by once and DeSean is not there. Go by again, DeSean is not there. So I leave a note. A good friend of mine, Ken Delgado, who is now coaching d-line in Cleveland (for the Browns)… he left Cal to coach for me at Louisville as the D-line coach and then at Eastern Michigan as the D-line coach… Kenny was at Cal. He had coached DeSean's brother at San Jose State. So now, the dad was Wild Bill. We called him Wild Bill because Bill was wild (laughter). Bless his soul because Bill has departed this earth. Bill was the man, he was wild. Kenny, myself, and Bill are going to have dinner at this place called La Trattoria which it's right on Venice Beach, it's a pasta, wine deal. So all three of us are there and I'm thinking, ‘okay, the guy is going to SC or he's going to Cal.’ So, I'm not saying nothing the whole dinner about (recruiting). I'm just kind of sitting there just chilling with Bill and Kenny, having a good time and having some wine and some pasta. Now, I'm leaving. I get to my car and I pull out and get to the corner. Bill calls. ‘Hey Ron… hey Ron, DeSean wants to come to Michigan. His mom is from Detroit… blah, blah, blah.’ That's how Bill would talk, he'd talk real fast. I said, ‘OK, perfect! Thank you God!’ (Laughter).”

“I had not talked to the kid one time. All I knew was that he was, in my mind, that year he was the best player in the state of California. The most competitive, the toughest, and just a playmaker. And then, what I loved about him was… you know why I kept missing him? He was playing pro baseball. Anyway, we get back and of course I tell the coaches. By the way, I had shown this guy for two years and would tell the coaches (about him). Everything is all good. So I call Bill, ‘I said OK, it's all good. Just have your wife call. We will set this call up for 8 o'clock.’ 6 o'clock that same night our coach calls… ‘Can’t take him Ron. We just took this other guy.’ We take this other receiver… we take this other guy. (LaTerryal Savoy). Bill calls and the mother calls and I have to tell them. He cusses me out! He's ripping me because they were all set. It was a done deal, so they are going nuts on me. He was so mad. He was mad because it was done. The mom was getting on to say, ‘hey, thank you so much. Now I can go see my (family).'”

“So at the time, (college coaches) could still go to the Army (All-American) Game. Me and the receivers coach go to the Army Game. If you remember, that's when (DeSean Jackson) went nuts. He went nuts! He went nuts! Every time he made a play, I was like, ‘that's your boy right there. That's your boy you turned down right there.’ Of course, as a freshman, he returns punts for touchdowns against Tennessee. He's DeSean Jackson.”

That team had no interest in playing today.
That was brutal.  Zero heart at all outside of #7 who played a hell of a game.  I thought we'd at least get to see the future.  Glimpses of the running game seemed promising, but if they insist on being a pounding team, they need a significant upgrade at the RB position.

It will be interesting to see if they get/need two new coordinators.  If Brown gets the Temple job, it would be surprising if it wasn't Partridge's to lose.  If Pep doesn't lose his job it wouldn't be surprising, but for all the wrong reasons.  I am not sure where the disconnect is, but they are just awful with time management.  It amazes me at both the college and pro level that this is an issue.  There should be no excuse for getting the play call into the QB quickly, having a QB realize that he can't wait, or not knowing when to use a timeout.

The offense is completely unimaginative and unable to score (despite the weapons) in games where it becomes a track meet.  They need to be able to adapt and/or get a beast RB that can execute despite the circumstances like Dillon.  I said it before, but I feel this needs to change.  As far as the defense goes, yikes....I don't know what plan B would look like, but I don't see why Partridge wouldn't be in the consideration.  He should be.

The game management part is not a new thing with Harbaugh. Came with the territory was my approach from the beginning. Not putting his players into position to be successful? That's surprised me. It's probably more on the coordinators than him, but he's responsible for them. And Pep needs to go.

Al Washington is probably going too..

Now on the clock. Ohio State vs Michigan once again. Offer has been made from OSU to replace the fired LB coach Billy Davis. #TickTickTick

I guess the rumors of saltiness were true.  I'm surprised he stuck around this long.  They'll miss his recruiting for sure.  As for Washington?  Not sure what to think.  I've thought for a while now that our LBs were more talented than what was shown on the field.  I'm not so concerned about these as I am anxious to see what they do on offense (if anything)

Josh Gattis is going to be named OC, WR coach @ Bama

https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/1083459417998151680

The impact Josh Gattis had at Vandy, Penn State and on that young WR group at Alabama this past year was very impressive. Landing him is probably the best addition for Michigan since Harbaugh got Don Brown.
Is Pep out then?  He wasn't the OC.  Last thing I want to see is a battle among them and screw things up even more.  I will say I like this from a WR perspective.  The WRs are woefully underutilized.  Perhaps he can change that....if they let him.

I haven't heard, but it would be hard to believe they'd keep that $1.5 salary on the books.

I've been expecting Pep to accept a job elsewhere since I cooled off from the Ohio game - whether that's before now or sometime in the near future.  If he's not able to land a job and stays put then he's going to be neutered and will continue to look for opportunities.  I think Harbaugh knew the identity on offense needed changed at minimum a year or two ago and has recruited accordingly.  It wasn't evident on the field...until it was.  But it always was - if that makes sense.  If he needed the optics those last two games provided it for him to target and acquire someone like Gattis.

I hope you guys are correct.  Last thing that team needs is a divided coaching staff.  I agree with you MAC that it's been clear for a couple years that offensive identity needed to change and I've always been puzzled at the resistance to change given the talent they have at WR.  Collins, DPJ, Black....come on!!!!  Get them the ball and get it to them often!!!

https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Article/Michigan-Football-Boston-Colleges-Anthony-Campanile-is-the-Wolverines-second-staff-hire-in-as-many-days-127650512/

Multiple sources have confirmed for The Michigan Insider that Jim Harbaugh has followed up his splash hire of former Alabama co-defensive coordinator Josh Gattis by filling one of his two defensive vacancies with former Boston College co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Anthony Campanile. The Fair Lawn (N.J.) native spent the last three seasons helping the Eagles field one of the nation’s top performing secondaries.

Noted for both his coaching ability and his prowess on the recruiting trail, Campanile has nurtured several pros in recent years.

Sounds like Chris Evans is going to be off the team.  Rumors are that he’s basically quit going to classes.

He tweeted a few minutes ago -

"I am going through some academic issues right now. I’m working through it now. I will still continue my career at the University of Michigan ! #GoBlue"

Some talented WRs on the team. Really hoping they get a chance to shine. I was expecting to see McCaffrey starting next season, but if Patterson is allowed to open up the offense we should be ok. The name escapes me.. what RB is in the incoming freshman class?

I would not count McCaffery out if he is healthy.

These sorts of things always seem to happen while I am on vacation....how many was in that last onslaught?  6?

I haven't been paying close attention to recruiting recently.  Was distracted by the baseball team for a bit and summer is always crazy.  This is the year I want to see significant improvement and I am so glad the ND game is later in the season instead of game 1.  They never seem to be ready for their first game of the season which is completely baffling to me.

Well you better get over to Mgoblog. The season is just a few days away!
Is it just me or is that place getting overbearing?  Seems like every time I go over there, the first 3-4 posts are :hophead:  about the formatting of posts or mocking someone because they don't know how to embed a link/pic etc.  I've been going to maize & brew much more lately.  mgoblog is getting more and more like 11W or RCMB

And I am absolutely stoked to see them actually use the stud WRs they have on that roster.  That's been driving my crazy for 2 years now.

I went to the game and was sitting pretty high so could see the whole play.  WRs always seemed open on deep routes but Patterson seemed to check down fast.  Will admit that Patterson did not get great protection though.   Looked like they had trouble getting the plays into the game in a timely manner and had to rush to get play off. So instead of high tempo offesne seemed sluggish.

Team also missed Donavon Jones in the return game.  Jones was in a walking boot so that does not look promising.

Seemed that way on TV too. WRs dropped several too. anyone know what's up with DPJ?
