*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (7 Viewers)

"I have nothing but respect for Carson Wentz and always will ... There hasn't been any change in his mood or attitude." -- #Eagles RB Boston Scott.

Man Barkan is all but begging for the league to punish the Eagles.
Our media loves the drama.

Honestly I blame the league for flexing us knowing we had 3rd stringers everywhere and nothing to play for. To expect us to go out and try to win such a meaningless game is downright hilarious. We played a LOT of guys we shouldn’t have still.

Mike Sielski on the Inquire has just told me that there has been nothing heard from Wentz ON RECORD about his opinion on any of this. I asked him in his tweet if anyone had heard anything from Wentz himself or is all of this based on assumptions and people with inside sources. He tweeted back with the Nothing on Record from Wentz so it's all speculation at this point.

I was actually gonna ask opinions early and forgot today if you guys would prefer seeing Sudfeld play the whole game and keep Hurts at QB2 as there was nothing to really play for anyway.

Djax with the hard hitting reporting.

@The Noid I have one small request if you continue to do the threads. Can you hyper link the last 4-5 Eagles threads in the OG post? I can dig them up if you don’t feel like looking for them.

I was completely fine with Hurts starting the game. They are still evaluating him and he could use the reps.

Was on the fence about this. I think we both agree on what Hurts is future wise but if he's gonna be the starter and behind that Oline maybe best to not risk him from getting injured. The downside is less time to evaluate but with mostly practice squad and 2nd and 3rd stringers it's hard to evaluate enough of him on this game. Him struggling considering the circumstances but also having come back down to earth last week didn't surprise me one bit tonight

Interesting tweet I found from out of all places a Gator Twitter account

We all just learned a valuable lesson from that Philly-Washington game. Don’t leave your destiny in the hands of other teams. Win the games you’re supposed to and take control of your division yourself. If you need other teams to do your dirty work for you, you don’t deserve it

See: UF fans rooting for UGA to lose down the stretch in 2012/2018/2019, and rooting for Texas A&M to lose down the stretch in 2020. Don’t let it come to that. Beat the teams in your way and leave no doubt. I’m a Giants fan; that’s what we get for losing to Philly the first time

All this whining about last night seems odd, didn’t those in a tizzy not watch the Jets/Jags all year? It’s not our job to get the Giants in the playoffs....do it yourself on the field.

When did our 'team' quit?  The players were playing their asses off and trying to win.

How are we bad fans for being happy about a loss when you also were?  What does this have to do about us as fans?

If you're mad at anyone, it can be one person.  Doug Pederson.  Not us, not the players on the field.  So sure, come in here and go off on a tangent because our head coach benched a QB that was having an absolutely atrocious game.
Exactly!  The players weren't trying to lose.  That doesn't happen in this league.  What the hell do the players who are on the field fighting for their jobs (as most of them are backups) care about a higher draft pick?  The Eagles organization may have wanted them to lose that game but certainly not the players on the field.  They just weren't any good.

Tanking for a top 3 pick is fine in general.  Quitting for the 6th pick though?
We all know why they did it and had this been a 1:00 start it’s not a story at all. In fact, I’m sure some teams that played earlier also didn’t play some people they could have

The Lions have been tanking since like 98 and two of the best players all time at their positions quit instead of playing for them lol

Doug was not exactly coaching to win, but the players were certainly playing to win. And Doug being able to take that approach means he had full confidence/knowledge he'll be back next season (and that Jeff and Howie cosigned on that "don't bring your A-game" approach.)

Not enough talk about how WFT played like they were almost trying to tank, too. If they were a decent, consistent team they would have pulled away early enough, or have been able to keep the Hurts-led offense at bay and no one would have their underoos in a bunch.

Will do. I'll let the 2020 thread linger for another day to absorb the residual tanking "outrage" and then get the 2021 thread up.

If anything most were thankful for a chance to play in a regular season game and get a regular season game check. Also some tape to show future teams.

Read a mock this morning that us taking a qb at 6.   Could you imagine the uproar if that happened
This narrative by the media is so blatant now. They want Wentz gone and have for at least 2 years now. Him playing poorly is their chance to seize upon it. Thankfully Doug hasn't taken the bait.

Honestly surprised about all this tanking outrage. If you're a Giants fan, you should be thanking the Eagles. If you're a non-NFCE fan, why do you care? If integrity of the gam is so important, save your anger for the lousy officiating we get every single game. The only ones who should be mad are Redskins fans. It just got harder to find a QB now with a lower pick.

If you're mad you saw a lousy game, blame the NFL for flexing it. Was yet another stupid decision.

Anyway, can't wait to start focusing on the Eagles insanity, since it looks like they're doing the same thing next year and expecting different results.

Hurts wasn't having a good game, and everyone (correctly) said we should never have taken a QB in the 2nd anyway. So putting in the guy that people think should have been the #2 backup all along is tanking?
It's possible they didn't think he'd be *THAT* bad. But also no reason to be putting Hurts out there with all those backups at OL. I mean - Matt Pryor was at Left tackle?

Hurts had the worst rated game from a QB here since that 9. something Foles through up in 2017 and he just missed a wide open WR that would have given us the lead. Any questions on why he was pulled would be easy to handle.

It is what it is. This isn’t the first time teams have inactivated better players in meaningless games and won’t be the last. Like I said earlier I’m shocked they played who they did. If I were Doug you wouldn’t have seen Graham, Hargrove, Jackson, Singelton, Slay, Ertz, Kelce or even Seamolu. This was no different than a 4th pre-season game for us and we owe the Giants nothing. If they wanted in maybe that should have won more than 6 games.

Throwing this game was arguably Doug’s best coaching decision this year.
Whether he did or didn't is moot.  The Giants have no one to blame but themselves when they let someone else decide their playoff fate.  Win more games & it doesn't come down to this.

Don't be blaming Phili.    IMHO

Howie sounds a buffoon

That analogy about carson being like one of his fingers was odd.   Cant believe he's gonna keep his role

I can’t believe he’s gonna keep his job either but I don’t think he’s been bad on this presser. He’s provided some pretty decent insight and sounds like he at least sees what he did wrong.

Doug and Howie end of year press conferences coming up at 10:30am...
Summary:

  • Howie

Disappointed, embarrassed, frustrated. On me/all of us. Have to fix it.
  • Too soon to comment on evaluations, including QB, have to look back on the whole season
  • Not a secret that we loved Wentz and gave him extension because we want him here
  • Had a good offseason plan and had to pivot due to pandemic (put more stock in older/vets to try and win due to limited time to develop players), but overall didn't do a good job building the team and have to do better
  • Last 2 GMs hired in NFL came from Eagles (Douglas and Brady), so feel good about our organization
  • Not talking about trading Wentz right now; want to put him in best possible position to succeed
  • Regret the "QB factory" comment, just wanted to underscore success we have had with back-up QBs
  • Not just on Wentz for his regression, team overall didn't do well
  • We don't have head on the sand; we know the season Justin Jefferson had, we try to draft based on what we need but Reagor is still young, dealt with injury, counting on our evaluations to eventually pay off (on JJAW, too)
  • John Dorsey brought in to help with the loss of Douglas and Berry in decision making
  • Asked about the Wentz wanting to be traded report and Howie passed to Doug, but Doug had no audio, so Howie had to answer: keep communications with players and their reps private, but we have a lot of confidence we can fix this. When Doug's audio was working, he said: Know Carson is disappointed, but we have a good relationship, but as head coach I have to do what's in best interest of team and getting the QB the right weapons is part of that (but didn't say which QB...)
  • When asked if he will focus on short-term success to save his job, at cost of team's long-term development: Will do whatever is needed to get the team back to being a contender, did think "running it back" in 2018 & 2019 may not have been the right approach and now it's clear major changes needed
  • Wentz has been professional and great work ethic last few weeks
  • Biggest regret of offseason is cap approach in March based on new CBA that then got upended by pandemic and had to scramble to adapt
  • Ertz contract/relationship situation has been open and honest, not always perfect, he want to be here but sometimes I can't be the good cop and have to do what's right for the team (mentions Moneyball scene where GM has to keep personal distance from players because of that) [sounds like Ertz is a goner]
  •  Cap situation is unknown, but have known since April what the floor is and feel prepared for whatever the final number is
  • Defers to Doug on the "one voice" on offense comment, will let any changes to his staff speak for themselves when/if Doug makes them
  • Changes in decision making and collaboration have to be considered because of 4-11-1, but at same time they have had successes, so will consider all of that before making any changes; have to hit on #6 pick, and the other picks

[*]Doug

  • Have to reflect on everything before making any upcoming changes, including next DC. Will talk to Schwartz and get feedback. On offense, wants to have best teachers for his players
  • Asked about "tanking", have to look at the entire season and the issues that kept coming up, wanted to see if Nate could get something going and pull it out (🙄)

Major issue I have with this is Doug saying how they take pride in teaching and surrounding players with coaches who can teach.

Who have they elevated? I can’t think of a single person who has got better under Doug. They nearly all stay the same or get worse.

Bottom line is that it’s all actions at this point for me. They basically raved about Wentz so now let’s see if they deal him. Howie said he’s made mistakes and can fix them. Show us.

I have little to no confidence they can right this and that we are delaying the inevitable so there’s nowhere to go but for me lol.

Still smells like hot garbage roasting on an open fire in Philadelphia today.
And you conveniently avoided where I quoted you saying that the Jets organization should have started their bench in order to not risk winning a game.

I agree for the most part, but Stoutland seems to be the exception.  I thought Seumalo and Mailata have definitely improved, as did Vaitai when he was here.

ETA: Or maybe they need to only draft linemen from the Pacific region.

It’s probably the best coached unit on the team. Mailata, Seumalo and Herbig have all played well. It’s the lone spot where they have coached up lesser picks to what looks to be above what was expected.

And that's why Doug will pull an Andy and make him the new DC 😄
