*Official 2020 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* Humanity will never recover from the most horrible event to happen in the last 100 years: Doug Pederson pla (7 Viewers)

Read a mock this morning that had us taking a qb at 6.   Could you imagine the uproar if that happened
If Wentz really does make things difficult and demand a trade this offseason, I can totally see it.  If the right QB is there it would also be the correct choice.

Major issue I have with this is Doug saying how they take pride in teaching and surrounding players with coaches who can teach.

Who have they elevated? I can’t think of a single person who has got better under Doug. They nearly all stay the same or get worse.
OL has consistently shown they can develop guys over expectations.  Several young WRs showed flashes this year, so hope there.  But in general, you’re right.

ETA: One of the things I think Doug has done poorly is manage his assistants.  Unless he fires Press Taylor in the next few days I won’t believe he’s learned anything there.

A few reports indicate that Wentz through a representative refused to speak to reporters today. Given what’s been circulating about him and the Doug you’d have to think there’s some truth to it. I can’t imagine his agent wouldn’t tell him to squash these rumors if they weren’t true.

That’s pretty big news before Doug’s meeting with Lurie tomorrow.

Eagles restructured Alshon and Malik Jackson before yesterday's game. Allows them to save $21MM in 2021 cap space, instead of $9MM, when they release both players this offseason as their two "Post-June 1st" cuts. It's not all gravy, as they'll still be on the hook for $14MM combined for the two of them in 2022.

Moves like this are how we'll get out of the cap hell. Malik I thought was a good signing at the time but hasn't nearly lived up to the contract.

Alshon should have never been resigned. Good riddance.
Agreed and I know we are in cap hell but getting under the cap is one of the few things I still have some trust in Howie to do. This is a good start.

We only need to make like 15 more moves like this and we are golden

All this whining about last night seems odd, didn’t those in a tizzy not watch the Jets/Jags all year? It’s not our job to get the Giants in the playoffs....do it yourself on the field.
ESPN was going hard on the Jets for Lawerance and half our local media was all for the Tank job the 76ers did led by Barkann champion it and wanting to complete it with a statue in Hinkie's honor. Now he's trying to get the NFL to investigate the Eagles? Ratings on CSN must be tough these days

Exactly!  The players weren't trying to lose.  That doesn't happen in this league.  What the hell do the players who are on the field fighting for their jobs (as most of them are backups) care about a higher draft pick?  The Eagles organization may have wanted them to lose that game but certainly not the players on the field.  They just weren't any good.
I would agree but I think you need to blame the NFL for pushing the game into Prime time and their rules as is for not playing players in a game situation like yesterday. Could've sworn the league had changed that after the Colts/Jets Debatcle awhile back. The Eagles just used the rules the to their advantage maybe toed the line. No different then some of the stuff these same media people praise Bill and NE doing for yrs.

This narrative by the media is so blatant now. They want Wentz gone and have for at least 2 years now. Him playing poorly is their chance to seize upon it. Thankfully Doug hasn't taken the bait.
Work wasn't any better dealing with customers most who are casual fans. I had to do a lot of tuning out today.

On a brighter note one of my favorite customers gave me an Eagles hat Original Midnight green when they changed with Coach **** Vermiels Signature on it. Pretty cool gift. He signs it as "Coach **** Vermiel Eagles Coach 76-82 SB15" Which is pretty cool as my Pop-Pop went to that game

Maybe some truth to this but how much? Also if you are Wentz right now it looks like the people in the media who want to talk to you are trying to drive you out of town so I could see why he wouldn't want to talk to them. I'd probably do the same. Actually thats a lie I probably would've came out with a statement then attacked how hypocritical many are with click bait material and through crap up on a wall hoping it sticks.

We only need to make like 15 more moves like this and we are golden
Speaking of Golden here's Golden Tate's tweet last night

Golden Tate should be the last player talking about integrity

We know we can laugh at the media when they talk about stuff like integrity since most of it doesn't have it but then when a player who has integrity issues comes out accusing others of lack there of thats pretty rich. There have been rumors flying around for yrs that SEA QB Russel Wilson broke up with his first wife after he found she was sleeping with one of his teammates. That teammate WR Golden Tate. Many people thought Tate wasn't resigned do to cap issues or offensive fit but the truth is the team wasn't gonna resign him after Wilson told the team he caught his teammate banging his first wife. The rumors line up with the time line of events as Wilson and his first wife separated in April of 2014. In FA that same year Tate signed with the Lions instead. So if anyone should be quiet on integrity it's Tate who broke one of the Cardinal locker room rules of don't be sleeping with teammates significant others. Whats that saying again? people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

I was a “I want to hear it from Carson guy” but it’s hard to deny. First report is Doug is staying and the next is Carson wants out and now Carson through representatives says he has no comment. Feels like he’s sending a message here IMO. I’m not saying this can’t be worked out but this reads like he wants Doug gone or is getting really pissed off.

I heard the tail end of it and was just cracking up. The pearl clutching has reached new levels of clutchery today.
Just a lot of pearl clutching let me take the moral high road and hang with the "cool kids" Some guy from the NYDaily News went after Cox who responded to Eli's tweet last night and the dude got ripped pretty good. Today I told him if only journalist like at your paper and others spent as much time going over the political discourse, the corruptions and Jeffrey Epstein as you guys with your fake morale outrage over a game maybe this country would be in a better spot. Honestly if these news stations took this much into going over the political discourse imagine how much could be done.

There's a chance they do, but I think OL is a bigger issue.  Even if the Bengals do take him, Chase would be there for us at 6.

Unless we win this game.
As a Bengals fan my expectation would be a priority order of Sewell (if the top 4 go QB-crazy and Miami opts for a weapon).  If not Sewell I think they take Chase and renew his LSU connection with Burrow.  While Boyd and Higgins are a nice top-2 the only other WR of consequence we have under contract is Tate.  If both are gone conceivable we trade back if someone wants what's available at 5 (which mathematics dictates would be the 3rd QB)

I don't know what's worse the national media or our own media because they really look bad. Some of the hot takes by some is funny how we apparently "tanked" yet some of these same folks had no issue defending the 76ers doing for about 4 yrs till they were blue and face and blocked you if you disagreed with it.

Enough 76ers stuff bro.

Thats rich and almost as bad Golden Tate who ruined Russel Wilson's first marriage
You come off as a homer trying to deflect the attention.

Eagles could have played spoiler and gave the NFL audience a little excitement.  Instead they folded into the night like a cheap carnival.

I'm not bashing the 76ers here though. I'm bashing those in our local media who defended the 76ers for tanking but the minute theres any hint of the Eagles doing so they get on their morale high horses about integrity and all. It's just hypocritical and the main guy pushing the claim was a vehement fan of the 76ers tanking in Barkann. It just looks pathetic by all of them and shouldn't be taken seriously. Honestly if I was one of the players today I'd be calling every one of these media members out today including the national media.

No I come off as someone who know the rules in the game and the Eagles did nothing different then people during the 1 PM games did. The Giants players are acting like babies not taking accountability for not doing better. Don't blame the Eagles blame your Teammate Evan Engram for not catching that catchable pass and pulling a Nelson Agholar. Maybe don't lose to the Bears, or get blown out by the 49ers or lose to Dal. Not like NYG didn't miss opportunities at winnable games this year. From a Giants stand point it sounds more like we are just happy to waltz into the playoffs and they were pretty cocky even before the start of the SNF game acting like it was guaranteed they were making the Playoffs.

I couldn't care less about the Giants.  My point was they short changed NFL fans.

You're OK with folding the tent in a prime time slot while a post season berth was on the line?

As a Bengals fan I would have been much more upset with the decisions the Eagles made if they had a weaker strength of schedule than us ;)

I will say that Eagles-Giants would be a great game to put in the Week 1 ESPN Monday Night doubleheader next year.

As a Devils fan I'm pondering if the Flyers or Rangers need us to beat the Islanders for them to have a shot at playoffs how hard I'd be rooting for that win.  I think that's true of all of the fan bases involved if it came down to their team.

Hard to get worked up over a 6-win team getting "robbed" in any case and it's not like Sudfeld wanted to stink up the joint.  The NFL helps those who help themselves.

Anyway carry on - was interested in seeing the post-game reaction here :)   - I might pop in if I hear any Bengals draft scuttlebutt that may be of interest to you guys at pick #6 - though really just find out what former Bengal and Bengals radio analyst Dave Lapham says the week before the draft - he is always spoiling our picks - often to our detriment.

Who cares? NFL flexed a game between a 6 win team and a 4 win team into it's primetime slot and acted all :ShockedPikachu: when the game was a mess. I was highly entertained all night.

I heard the tail end of it and was just cracking up. The pearl clutching has reached new levels of clutchery today.
And all they did was take out a QB who was 7/20, 3.6 YPA and a pick.  WTF?  Suds was bad, and that was predictable, but you could easily make a case Hurts was benched for performance reasons alone.

If they were *really* trying to win, they would have run the Wildcat with Greg Ward.

Exactly. It's funny how they failed to mention that in their integrity monologues today.

How upset were you with the Steelers sitting their QB and helping the Browns make the playoffs? How about KC resting players, were the fans robbed then? Or any other week 17 game when teams rest players in meaningless games?

The fake outrage over this 24 hours later has reached epic stupidity.

Talk to the league. According to them the Eagles did nothing wrong. This isn't as bad a The Bucs benching starters up 20-6 at HT to tank for Jamis Winston a dude who sexually assaulted two FSU Female students and the Team and school covered it up and sl*t shamed the girls. Heck FSU Homer Danny Kornell was champion the money the girls got they didn't deserve and should go back to the school. Stop your pearl clutching

We didn't get this much outrage in 2015 when the Bucs did far worse in a game

Bucs pull biggest in game tank job in NFL History. Blow a 20-6 HT lead vs NO after benching starters after HT

It'll die down. I know it was the only playoff-determining game, but it was dumb to flex it to the night game. Eagles didn't 'tank', but they certainly had other priorities then just winning. If the NFL doesn't like it, then they should go to a lottery-NBA style draft.

I think this captures all the scenarios of Wentz's cap situation, lot of implications:

Ironically, I think even if the Eagles picked at #9 they'd find a great prospect. Chase, Smith, Surtain - one of them will be there.

Take it with a grain of Salt as it's Jeff McLane but he's reporting that multiple Eagles players were upset with decision to Bench Hurts and 2 Defensive Players had to be held back from going after Doug. I usually hold back on any McLane reports till someone confirms him. If this is true and wasn't sent from Roseman/Lurie Doug might be getting a pink slip tomorrow me thinks. Given how Lurie takes PR for the Eagles seriously if this didn't come from him or something from Roseman okayed by him I don't see how Pederson is coaching the team after tomorrow meeting

Report says Kelce and one other O starter went to Doug just to ask why he pulled Hurts down 3. Many didn't apparently know of the plan to play Sudfeld or felt because of circumstances planned was abandoned while some believed if Pederson had told them they all would've been fine. Other sources say they aren't sure if it was Doug's decision or something that came from Lurie/Roseman or both. Kelce declined commenting after the game and today

They also could've just not changed the game time. That simple.

I had thought the NFL had put some sort of rules in place on playoff issues and sitting players after the Colts/Jets debatcle. Maybe they had and then changed the rules I don't know.

According to Brandon Graham, everyone knew they were playing Sudfield. Sounded like it was the plan at halftime to play him, and they actually went longer then expected by playing Hurts into the 3rd.

Yeah hence why I said it's McLane take with a grain of salt. If something like this had happened I'd have heard about it by now too. I just asked two buddies I know in the local media and DM'd Selski (Worth a shot now that he knows I'm the cousin of a college friend of his and after last night) to see what their thoughts were or if they had heard anything. I'll post if I get anything either way.

The other thing that doesn't make sense is if guys had to be held back on the sideline clearly NBC camera's would've picked up on this and reports already out on this today no?

Yeah - this one seems like it was pretty random but mixed with the subject made for a funny juxtaposition (not picking on the Eagles mind you - just given the topic of the article found it humorous).

Also someone would've clearly reported on a sideline scuffle or picked up players being held back on national TV. First headline says Sideline Confrontations but then he's vague when he reports on it. Looking at the twitter comments he's getting destroyed on the story and people are calling BS.

Let me get this straight, the 6-10 Giants feel robbed that we didn’t secure a playoff spot for them they couldn’t earn on their own? Also their cry baby coach came up in the Cheatriots system? Now this is funny.  :lmao:

Alex Singleton has tied with Jeremiah Trotter for the most games in a single season with 10+ tackles in Eagles history (6).

Singleton only started 11 games, Trotter started 15.

Alex Singleton only played 54 snaps the first 5 weeks of the season, and he still finished 15th in the NFL with 120 tackles. Give him those 5 full games as a three-down LB, and he probably would have led the NFL in tackles.

And how long would he have ridden the bench if Nate Gerry didn't get hurt?
